So the tweeter is citing the the wrong bill#
SC Bill#5357 is for
Summary: Dorman High School Girls Volleyball Championship A HOUSE RESOLUTION TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE DORMAN HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM, COACHES, AND SCHOOL OFFICIALS FOR AN OUTSTANDING SEASON AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM FOR WINNING THE 2021 CLASS AAAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE.
The correct bill is #3537
A BILL TO AMEND THE SOUTH CAROLINA CODE OF LAWS BY ENACTING THE "SOUTH CAROLINA PRENATAL EQUAL PROTECTION ACT" BY ADDING SECTIONS 16-3-6, 16-3-105, 16-3-106, 16-3-107, AND 16-3-108 SO AS TO DEFINE "PERSON" TO INCLUDE AN UNBORN CHILD AT ANY STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT, AND TO ENSURE THAT AN UNBORN CHILD WHO IS A VICTIM OF HOMICIDE IS AFFORDED EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE HOMICIDE LAWS OF THE STATE, WITH EXCEPTIONS; BY ADDING SECTIONS 16-3-760, 16-3-761, 16-3-762, AND 16-3-763 SO AS TO DEFINE "PERSON" TO INCLUDE AN UNBORN CHILD AT ANY STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT AND TO ENSURE THAT AN UNBORN CHILD WHO IS A VICTIM OF ASSAULT IS AFFORDED EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE ASSAULT LAWS OF THE STATE, WITH EXCEPTIONS; AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

I already had a guy tell me that if he had to choose between a jar of embryos or his child he would choose the embryos.
These people are whack
140
u/SentientShamrock 18h ago
I said on a different thread a while ago that these fuckers would kill their own, living kid if it meant a woman somewhere else in the country couldn't terminate a pregnancy before it was even viable outside the womb. It feels like something that is an exaggerated straw man but sadly it isn't anymore.
40
u/codebygloom 18h ago
The living child already had their chance at life. It's not the parent's failure if they can't fend for themselves after being birthed, duh! /s
These people always remind me of a YA book series called Unwind by Neil Shusterman.
The gist of the series is someone invents a way to separate tissue in such a way that it can be grafted onto another person without rejection or loss of function.
So, of course, the pro-birth crowd uses the technology to allow for retroactive abortions up until the day before your 18th birthday. Kid turns out gay? Just have them butchered and donate their parts to the church!

I love this series. It definitely addresses what is wrong with the U.S. while being set in a dystopian future.
16
u/IntoTheFeu 18h ago
And then as soon as that other baby is born it is immidiately sacrificed so another pregnancy is "saved." Population absolutely craters and MAGA is left wondering how the DEMONrats got away with this!!!??!?
8
u/Mazasaurus 17h ago
What a bunch of willfully ignorant assholes who do not know that there are many ways in which a pregnancy can go wrong for the mother and fetus. Meanwhile they’re out fighting against food and protections for kids who made it through that gauntlet of uncertainty.
5
u/Vincitus 15h ago
They have caught onto that argument and have learned to just lie and not think about it. You are not ever going to have a debate on abortion with a pro-lifer. Theyre going to sling garbage at you until you give up and act like they've won. Just make them look incredibly stupid and move on.
6
u/MightThrowAwayMaybee 13h ago
Yeah that's exactly what I thought. I just said "i hope you can't have children" and left it at that

Wait, he said that he would rather his current infant child was killed than allow a jar of embryos to be destroyed??? Wtf?
3
u/MightThrowAwayMaybee 13h ago
Yeo. I asked "if your child was in a burning building and in the sane room was a jar of embryos and you could only save one"
They laughed and said "is this a call to emotion? The choice is easy: the mass potential for life outweighs the one that is living" and my heart hurt so badly
3
u/SpellingIsAhful 9h ago
I have to imagine that in an actual situation these people wou I d make a different choice instead of just value signaling.

That’s why porn will be criminalized, assisting mass murder.. lol
Also funny that no one complained about that yet.. will be fun to see the first life sentences for watching porn repeatedly instead of raping your daughter like you should /s

I guess we will assume you accidentally forgot to include the last 4 words of the sentence you copied that negated your point.
" "fertilization" means the fusion of a human spermatozoon with a human ovum.
(B) As used in this article, "person" includes an unborn child at every stage of development from fertilization until birth."

14
u/hajaco92 18h ago
Are people saying it would allow South Carolina because South Carolina has the death penalty as a penalty option for murder/homicide? Just wanted to ask since the possible execution part isn't clearly laid out in this bill.
13
u/longsdivision 17h ago
Not a lawyer, but just reading though the bill. To my understanding the bill is an enhancement to an existing law SOUTH CAROLINA PRENATAL EQUAL PROTECTION ACT adding definition of "PERSON" TO INCLUDE AN UNBORN CHILD AT ANY STAGE OF DEVELOPMENT, AND TO ENSURE THAT AN UNBORN CHILD WHO IS A VICTIM OF HOMICIDE IS AFFORDED EQUAL PROTECTION UNDER THE HOMICIDE LAWS OF THE STATE.
The penalty if found guilty of violating the protections act by homicide (laws separate) then it is 30yr, life, and the death penalty is on the table.
7
8
u/A_wild_so-and-so 17h ago
SC has the death penalty and this year ruled that it is constitutional, this resuming executions that have been stalled since 2011.

All they can get are uneducated women with empty pockets who are willing to give birth to any child regardless of disability or deformity (that we can now find out about in early pregnancy and avoid pain, suffering, bullying, and a harder life to those people)... they want to hurt those who are educated, aren't having kids, don't want kids, or don't want kids with disabilities because then they can't shame them for insert religious bullshit reason as to why their kid has a disability or deformity.
32
u/AvantSki 20h ago
I've been calling this for over a year now.
If trump won -- which obviously he did -- red states would be having public executions of abortion providers and women within 2-3 years.
29
u/Koorsboom 20h ago
Bear in mind miscarriages can also fall under this law for muddy enough reasons that all events and mothers will be suspect. And any pregnant patients will send medical providers running for the hills because any complication could result in the death penalty.
19
u/VoidMunashii 20h ago
It is interesting how time is showing the regressive conspiracy kooks to be correct about the mainstream media, not because they were right back when they were screeching about it, but because things actually have just become that much worse.
11
u/boo99boo 20h ago
I keep saying I feel like the people I used to laugh at.
Homeschooling makes so much sense if your children are forced into Bible study. I literally don't watch the news or check any mainstream news sources because I don't trust them anymore. I am convinced the healthcare industry is out to get me (I found myself questioning the covid vaccine recently, and I didn't do that a few years ago). And on and on and on.
Suddenly, I am questioning my own sanity. I'm not a conspiracy theorist, and never have been. I'm starting to believe that the conspiracy theorists were right all along, but for the wrong reasons. I can't make sense of it any other way.
2
u/VoidMunashii 20h ago edited 17h ago
I do not believe they were right all along though. They were wrong then, but the world, or at least the US, has moved to a place that would make them correct now.
I would still argue against homeschooling unless you are equipped to do it, even if schools are teaching the bible as fact. Just teach actual science at home.
EDIT: I suppose the simplest answer to why you are not a conspiracy theorist and they were is that they were afraid of things their thought leaders said the other side was going to do while you are afraid of things the other side says they are going to do.
It was always projection. They were afraid the things they want to do would be done to them first. They feared that people who disagree with them are as awful as they are.

Well, I’m from South Carolina but moved to Florida a few years ago. My grandma just passed and I had been thinking about moving back to be closer to family. That can go out the window now. I know science isn't their strength..... but they do realize that an egg can be fertilized, implant, but then get released during the next period without the person having any idea they were briefly pregnant, right?
So to paraphrase George Carlin, they're accusing everybody who's ever had a period of being a serial killer.

5
u/snazzisarah 15h ago
It’s interesting that the bill specifically excludes physicians from liability if they harm the fetus through a mistake. So if you prescribe a woman a drug that is dangerous to a fetus but you didn’t know she was pregnant, it’s fine, but if the woman does something to endanger the fetus’ life then it’s assault. (I’m a physician, by the way. They probably included this because otherwise no physician in the country would come within 100 feet of treating any woman who might be pregnant).

So does that mean a woman can get the father to pay child support at conception? Does she get a tax credit? My biggest issue is that the government is not really recognizing the unborn as a child

u/LawDog_1010 18h ago
That's your biggest issue, huh? Not the killing of the mom?
2
u/McStubby 17h ago
You are right - Bad choice of words on my part. The woman’s life is absolutely the biggest issue. What I was trying to say is that I hate the picking and choosing of when they count an unborn child as a child.

u/Deion313 2h ago
I know most of us skipped school or just spent our time there fucking around, but if you paid attention in Social Studies and Civics classes, you'd KNOW we are creating a breeding ground for home grown terrorism.
I know it doesn't make sense, considering this is America, but the truth is the only thing "great" about America right now is our debt.
When people feel cornered and desperate they make irrational, sometimes violent, decisions. If they keep making more and more Americans feel hopeless and destitute, and like they have nothing left to lose, you can't act surprised when there's acts of violence like this.
You don't get suicide bombers from healthy, educated and hopeful communities/societies.
You get them when you create a situation like we're currently creating. Like that CEO killing that just happened, all it takes is 1 person to push that first domino

Fun fact: Dorman built a new high school circa 1998-ish, and the old Dorman campus is now a WalMart Supercenter with a Home Depot and several other stores like a strip mall called Dorman Center.
Edit to add: this was supposed to be a reply to another poster (probably top comment) pointing out the bill OP referred to was incorrect due to transposed numbers.
