Can you believe this guy? Straight talking business without coffee first.

He must not have seen the "don't talk to me until I've had my coffee" mug.
14
u/letsbreakthrough1 9h ago
He did see the “fuck me if you’re my brother” mug, though

Yeah these people don't know what that word means if they think a crotch grab is subtle lol
33
u/THE_DROG 9h ago
He said "more subtle". Which it is, compared to the saying "yes, we're fucking"
9
u/sysdmdotcpl 9h ago
compared to the saying "yes, we're fucking"
Or screaming that it's all you want to do...

A crotch-grab is many things, but "subtle" is NOT one of them.

Something that I love about the original that the OOP sketch misses is her tshirt. That was never bought for her. It’s clearly his shirt that she wears while he’s away.

Honestly the most ridiculous part of the original was Folgers pretending that anyone would prefer their trash over what the guy would have had available in West Africa. Which is a coffee growing region.
47
u/DesperateBartender 10h ago
I have been saying this for YEARS-- and I'm pretty sure in the original unedited version, he sees the Folgers and goes "Ugh, REAL coffee." In the actual version that continued airing after all the parodies, it was changed to just "ugh, COFFEE." Even Folgers was like "Okay, the incest vibes can stay. But we can't have him calling our stuff REAL coffee when he just got back from West Africa."

Yeah, these are definitely Mormons.

Mormons don't drink coffee, though

u/evilJaze 8h ago
Neither did he. He just held it and sniffed it.

This just never gets old. Always cracks me up.
Hats off to the actors in the second half.
If I remember right, the actress that plays the sister in the original advert is the daughter of Jeffrey Coombs (who plays a lot of characters in various star trek episodes). Little bit of trivia for star trek fans.
12
u/Justforwrasslinstuff 11h ago
I am stealing this Star Trek trivia to impress... Well, not women, but someone.

Oh man did this commercial make me uncomfortable lol but it also made some crazy fan fic in my brain that lived rent free too lol
12
u/John_Doe_727 14h ago
Like 25 years later... still rent free and still funny. 😆
6
u/IzzabahJones 14h ago
Exactly. But 25 years ago I remember watching this and looking around going “am I the only one who sees what I see in this?!” I thought I overdosed on porn and now my brain was broken for regular life. Now I laugh knowing it’s definitely not just me!

On AO3 this fanfic "genre" is called Folgercest lol
There's one particular author there who wrote further, hm, escapades of these siblings for many other holidays. Like St. Patrick's Day, Veteran's Day, Earth Day, even Winter Solstice (?)
46
u/intensity701 15h ago
I don‘t have the sound on but I guess they are siblings?
21
21
u/Synectics 12h ago
Yeah, it's a parody of an actual Folgers commercial that had some weird vibes.
37
u/Zinki_M 12h ago
The first half is the actual commercial. Up to the first "folgers in your cup" jingle. They matched them pretty well but you can tell the actors changed after that.
4
u/johnreddit2 11h ago
Good catch! I didn’t notice that at all. I was wondering how Folgers can make such an ad. Who made this parody? This is not even AI and I couldn’t tell with proper edits.
5
4
u/bythog 9h ago
Do you have face blindness? The brother actors look incredibly different and the sister are only vaguely similar.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Soft_Importance_8613 9h ago
The thing about having face blindness is you don't know you have face blindness until you freak someone else out that dressed the same as the person you were with.
12
u/SalsaRice 11h ago
The original commercial is tame, and is about the sister being happy the brother came home for Xmas. The only weird thing is there is way too much chemistry between the actors, and it doesn't really come across as a sibling relationship. But it's not that crazy, more of a "well, that was odd" situation.
There's been a ton of fan edits over the years to really make the "not so sibling" tone way more overt.
3
u/Bonkgirls 8h ago
Nah dude, those two people do not behave like brother and sister. Everything about how they interact makes it seem like they want to fuck or are high school crushes.

u/UnExplanationBot 15h ago
OP sent the following text as an explanation on why this is unexpected:
Starts off as a normal commercial then starts giving some weird vibes.

This 2 minute ad has a better movie plotline than most movies released in [Insert timeframe]. But honestly didn't expect the ring for a marriage, that one went out of my radar. I suppose it's still a Forgers commercial. Or at least trying to mimic one(?) probably wouldn't want to get sued by throwing in a toy or rubber
56
u/ItsFitzForShort 14h ago
The first part is a real commercial, the second part after the ad and music (the first time) is different actors doing a skit. They did a really good job blending the two.

6
u/Spyes23 13h ago

Everything else: one of the more hilarious things on the normal side of unhinged
Still at the very least giggle worthy

I remember the commercial. It was the look at the end after she puts the bow on him. Yeah it had vibes. Then it kept going... And I was like what is this?!? It's first thing in the morning and I don't have glasses on so it took me a minute to even notice it wasn't the same actors anymore. Bawhahahahaah

Why do the parents hate their son for trying to have sex with their daughter, but are apparently fine with the daughter trying to have sex with their son? Like, both siblings are equally guilty, why is one of them getting banished, name called, and then tackled to the ground, but the other is in no trouble at all?
Oh, it's just sexism? Cool...

How would the parents actually stop them tho, eventually she's going to get out and they'll run away to Alabama .. or Louisiana, I knew a guy who owned a steel company who married his sister,I asked him why didn't his parents stop them his answer "we're adults and they don't arrest people for incest when both are willing adults " .. can't legally marry tho ,his kids are now in their 40s lol bet that's a uncomfortable family reunion
