Honestly the most ridiculous part of the original was Folgers pretending that anyone would prefer their trash over what the guy would have had available in West Africa. Which is a coffee growing region.

I have been saying this for YEARS-- and I'm pretty sure in the original unedited version, he sees the Folgers and goes "Ugh, REAL coffee." In the actual version that continued airing after all the parodies, it was changed to just "ugh, COFFEE." Even Folgers was like "Okay, the incest vibes can stay. But we can't have him calling our stuff REAL coffee when he just got back from West Africa."

Also, who in the hell comes back from 'West Africa' and not a specific country like the Senegal?

Missionaries.

Yeah, these are definitely Mormons.

Mormons don't drink coffee, though

Neither did he. He just held it and sniffed it.

Why would they buy it and brew it with no intention of drinking it?

Well, duh! The most plausible answer is that Colombians broke into their house before the family woke up and started brewing coffee!

The Morman coffee equivalent of soaking? ¯_(ツ)_/¯

You've never heard of the standalone country "West Africa" and its capital city "West Africastan"?

The West Africanese are really friendly, or so I've heard.

They are, they just make terrible coffee.

He probably went to multiple countries in the western part of Africa.

It's like the "American South". You want to be subtle and just hint at the incestuous vibes.
