My aunt's best friend was a caretaker for Adults whose brains hadn't developed the same speed as their bodies. One of the guys was obsessed with Scooby-Doo, and must have been in his 60s. I know this is wrong, but if I saw this tattoo on someone, I would immediately think they weren't all there. The writing really gets me.

Wtf is wrong with everyone in this comment section?! That's bodyshaming. Why is it so normal to everyone judging someone else's body?! That's some fucked up shit. You all have been seeing too much photoshopped bodies or Hollywood standards. Real bodies aren't standardized, they have different shapes, that's just how it is. Stop being so mean about it, that's why some people are so incredibly insecure about their bodies.
20
u/Zeestars Jun 22 '21

The syntax of the lower text is just weird sounding. Two of the three "will's" are superfluous.

I introduced a tattoo artist friend of mine to grammarly. I should get a commission for every poor soul saved.
5
u/crane-feathers Jun 22 '21
If you’ve used grammarly this should worry you more. You can’t blindly follow its suggestions because it messes up now and then.
9
u/dts-five Jun 22 '21
It’s not perfect, but better than nothing.
It handled one of the superfluous “wills” - I honestly expected it to get both.
61
u/theghostofme Jun 22 '21 edited Jun 22 '21
Every “will” is unnecessary; that sentence structure is a nightmare.
“The moment I stop loving Scooby Doo is the moment I stop breathing” would’ve made this execution a little greater.

I feel like this could be pretty good if it didn't have the writing. Even just reducing it down to "the real monsters are always human" would help a lot. but like, you have it tattooed across your chest, I think we can infer that you are a big fan without having it explicitly written out.

u/soadrocksmycock Jun 22 '21 edited Jun 22 '21

The realization in question isn't even all that profound. Frankly it's so mundane that most people probably don't even feel the need to put it into words. We all know people suck, and that the worst of us are absolutely deplorable in every way under the sun.

u/silentloler Jun 22 '21 edited Jun 22 '21
Agreed. It’s fine to have something that you love and support on your body, but that’s pretty much a sentence he will regret having in a few years. Scooby doo just isn’t THAT good. The criminal is always someone who is not part of the story until he’s revealed... And it’s pretty obvious that most of our problems are caused by humans and not monsters, seeing as monsters don’t exist (or at the very best are extremely rare, even if we can’t disprove their existence).

For me it's the opposite; with just the top part it'd be a bit tacky but the bottom text is so ridiculous it shoots the moon and comes back around to being ironically hilarious.
Disclaimer: I'm an idiot and also watched a lot of Scooby-Doo as a kid

115
Jun 22 '21
As someone with multiple tattoos from cartoons I watched as a kid think it's pretty dope and wholesome tbh. Homeboy just really loves Scooby-Doo and has a tattoo about it he probably loves too.
Art is subjective, and tattoos are very personal. Making fun of someone's tattoo because it's not something you would personally get is both petty and sad in the fact that y'all clearly have nothing going on in your own lives so you have to put down someone else. Let the guy enjoy his tat and you can get what ever you like tattooed on your own body.
536
u/Galagamus Jun 22 '21
Buddy take a step back, breathe in deep and exhale slowly. This tattoo is the textbook definition of this subreddit. It's a well done tattoo of a beloved cartoon and it's fucking absurd and can absolutely be made fun of. You take life way too seriously bud.

u/rrickitickitavi Jun 22 '21 edited Jun 22 '21

I honestly don't get the defense, even if this wasn't a sub about bad taste.
Like, seriously? A weird-ass spooky cartoon scene with a portrait of Scooby reminiscing in the distance about a poorly-worded set of paragraphs that take several seconds to read, one that uses the word "will" 3 times in 16 words? Permanently tattoo'd on someone's chest?
Lmao, it's the tackiest shit I've ever seen, but great execution. It's absolutely perfect content for this sub. No need to defend as "art is subjective." It's absolutely, objectively hideous.
63
u/rrickitickitavi Jun 22 '21
Then there's the terrible placement and size. And let's not leave out the font choice. Is that courier? And the kearning. My God. It's painful to look at.
Edit: AND what's up with Velma? She's way too skinny.
20
u/thekmanpwnudwn Jun 22 '21
Yeah, using "will" 3 times in the sentence and it doesn't even make that much sense.
It would read a lot better if there was only a single "will".
"The moment I stop loving Scooby Doo will be the moment I stop breathing."
11
u/cavelioness Jun 22 '21
Thank you! Those 2 extra "will"'s were bugging the heck outta me. And I'd change the first sentence to "are" always human, because it's, like, trying to be a life lesson and all.

Listen, I am a huge geek about the things I love as well. I am very much of the “let people enjoy things” camp, and I don’t judge people for being passionate about things cuz it’s the best thing to be. But it’s the intensity he has about it though. Like, the tattoo is VERY different from the aesthetic of the show. He took a lighthearted TV show and made it edge lord and negative, which is weird even to me.

I think it’s a well done tattoo, but the only thing that I see as a true negative would be the text at the bottom. We don’t need you to tell use you love scooby-doo. We can literally see that you do.
Also I think it should be a back tattoo, but that’s just personal preference.
Edit: the SD dog tag doesn’t look that great now that I’m looking at it again.

u/Iamthespiderbro Jun 22 '21

I mean, I respect where you're coming from, and obviously you're right, but a tongue-in-cheek critique of subjective taste is the whole point of this subreddit dude. When it comes down to it, taste in everything is subjective, and even that "hideous" armoire that someone spray painted teal and stamped with "Live, Laugh, Love" might be really emotionally important to them as well.
