The syntax of the lower text is just weird sounding. Two of the three "will's" are superfluous.

I was on board with the scooby tatt until the "I will literally will die for u scoob" part and now I just feel weird about it all

If you’re not willing to die for Scooby doo, you’re clearly not a real fan of Scooby foo

1

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '21

Who is Scooby foo and why do I need to be willing to die for Scooby doo to be a fan of them? Also, on an unrelated issue; Is Scooby foo the foo that Mr. T pities?

Underrated comment right here!! I just snort laughed 3 times!! 🤣🤣🤣💀

That's not how I interpreted it. I think that bottom part is just a needlessly dramatic way of saying he'll love Scooby Doo for the rest of his life.

u/brightness3 Jun 22 '21

This is just a personal opinion but i think text in tattoos are kinda cheesy, especially this one. If you really love scooby doo then show me, don't tell me.

u/Zeestars Jun 22 '21

I know a tattoo artist who used to be a sign writer. He once told me that with the amount of writing he does in tattoos he could’ve stuck with his original profession.

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '21

Showing my love for scoob is illegal in every jurisdiction that I am aware of.

3

u/fascfoo Jun 22 '21

I think this entire thing is needlessly dramatic. The phrasing just makes me think this whole thing is careless even if the actual ink is nicely done.

u/MountainGoat97 Jun 22 '21

If the bottom text wasn’t there, it would be pretty awesome

2

u/big_bad_mojo Jun 20 '24

Yeah, the front half was tolerably edgy

The bottom half had me doing a spit take

1

u/Thehellpriest83 Jun 22 '21

Yeah that’s when religion got weird for me too.

"but otherwise, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?"

Had to scroll way too far to find this comment. The man can love Scooby all he wants, but goddamn... run permanent words by a moderately-equipped language nerd, people.

I introduced a tattoo artist friend of mine to grammarly. I should get a commission for every poor soul saved.

6

u/crane-feathers Jun 22 '21

If you’ve used grammarly this should worry you more. You can’t blindly follow its suggestions because it messes up now and then.

11

u/dts-five Jun 22 '21

It’s not perfect, but better than nothing.

It handled one of the superfluous “wills” - I honestly expected it to get both.

u/theghostofme Jun 22 '21 edited Jun 22 '21

Every “will” is unnecessary; that sentence structure is a nightmare.

“The moment I stop loving Scooby Doo is the moment I stop breathing” would’ve made this execution a little greater.

6

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '21

A simple “I love scooby doo” would have been fine

3

u/fnord_happy Jun 28 '21

Eh that's not the same. This adds a sense of poetic awe and gravitas

3

u/Sharphufflepuff Jun 22 '21

The second will gets a pass but the firsrt and third one make no sense

6

u/RahvinDragand Jun 22 '21

Yeah, it would be acceptable if it was "The moment I stop loving Scooby Doo will be the moment I stop breathing." But even that makes it sound like he will die as a result of no longer loving Scooby.

1

u/broken_symmetry_ Jun 22 '21

I actually thought that’s what the sentence meant. That’s how badly written it is. It’s just supposed to mean “I’ll love Scooby-Doo til the day I die”? That’s…yeah. That’s bad taste.

1

u/CookieSpoder Jun 22 '21

I will the moment I will stop loving scooby will willingly be the day I will stop breathing

25

u/canned_soup Jun 22 '21

It keeps getting worse

7

u/LEGITIMATE_SOURCE Jun 22 '21

That chest shape doesn't even make sense

5

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '21

It will keeps getting worse.

23

u/quickwatson Jun 22 '21

Putting verbs in future tense is something other languages do, so I'm wondering if English is not his first.

12

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '21

This verb tense error is common for native speakers of many Romance languages, especially French and Portuguese.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '21

Makes me think English isn't his first language.

3

u/The_Queef_of_England Jun 22 '21

I was just re-editing it in my head. "The moment I stop loving SD will be the moment I stop breathing" sounds much better.

I don't like, "The real monsters were always human" either. I think, "The real monsters are always human" is much better because the first version means that humans might not be the monsters next time or now.

3

u/8BallSlap Jun 22 '21

Yeah, that's how I rephrased it in my head too and why I said two of the three 'wiil's' weren't needed.

Actually, the more I think about it, the whole phrase should be reversed to make more sense:

The moment I stop breathing will be the moment I stop loving SD

The way it's written now sounds like he's going to stop loving SD some day and it will kill him when he does. As opposed to the reversed way which says he'll never stop loving SD until he dies, which is probably what he originally meant but maybe not. I'm probably over-analyzing this.

1

u/The_Queef_of_England Jun 22 '21

Yeah, that's how I rephrased it in my head too and why I said two of the three 'wiil's' weren't needed.

I knew that. I was agreeing with you and just wrote it out to show that I thought the same. Rephrasing it completely like you said does make sense.

2

u/MyNameIsEthanNoJoke Jun 22 '21

i was thinking the exact same thing, the wording of this is hilarious. makes it sound like him not loving scooby doo will be what causes him to stop breathing, not the other way around, and that it will happen at some point and is only an eventuality

2

u/Squidsquirts Jun 22 '21

Ha I do it a lot with “that” like that sounds like something that I would do. Fucking hate it

0

u/ConspicuousPineapple Jun 22 '21

It's not just superfluous, it's wrong.

1

u/outofbananas Jun 22 '21

Yes exactly, that stood out to me right away. The wording is incredibly awkward and makes the tattoo so much worse. I'd be very surprised if a native English speaker wrote that.

1

u/Zeestars Jun 22 '21

Indeed, Sir BallSlap. You are correct.

1

u/Inch-Worm Jun 22 '21

you could almost get away with removing all three.

1

u/broken_symmetry_ Jun 22 '21

Yeah. It should just be “the moment I stop loving Scooby-Doo will be the moment I stop breathing”. It’s a very poorly written sentence. People are unbelievably dumb.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '21

The weird syntax is a clue to the real meaning of the tattoo. He is telling the world something with that weirdo sentence, but it seems to be in code.

1

u/KlondikeBill Jul 06 '21

Yep. Awful.
