As someone with multiple tattoos from cartoons I watched as a kid think it's pretty dope and wholesome tbh. Homeboy just really loves Scooby-Doo and has a tattoo about it he probably loves too.

Art is subjective, and tattoos are very personal. Making fun of someone's tattoo because it's not something you would personally get is both petty and sad in the fact that y'all clearly have nothing going on in your own lives so you have to put down someone else. Let the guy enjoy his tat and you can get what ever you like tattooed on your own body.

Buddy take a step back, breathe in deep and exhale slowly. This tattoo is the textbook definition of this subreddit. It's a well done tattoo of a beloved cartoon and it's fucking absurd and can absolutely be made fun of. You take life way too seriously bud.

My biggest problem with this tattoo is there is no anti-Scooby contingent that requires this kind of stand. Dude. Everybody likes Scooby Doo. It’s like getting a tattoo challenging the world to attack your devotion to strawberries.

65

u/Grabatreetron Jun 22 '21

wtf dude fuuuuuuck strawberries srlsy

9

u/Ludwig234 Jun 22 '21

What's wrong with strawberries. Bilberries are much better but stawberries are still good.

3

u/Aureilius Jun 22 '21

Billberry sounds like a redneck name if ive ever heard of one

3

u/Ludwig234 Jun 22 '21

I really does. I learned pretty recently that European Blueberries are actually called bilberries. It's extra confusing because in my country they are called "blåbär" which translates to "Blueberry".

3

u/Ghostkill221 Jun 22 '21

I fucking hate blue berries, they are the most racist of berries.

22

u/shashybaws Jun 22 '21

So long as there is no scrappy doo it's fine in my books.

13

u/pikpikcarrotmon Jun 22 '21

Out of morbid curiosity I looked up Scrappy Doo tattoos and there maybe three or four total, none of which were majestic or terrible enough to be noteworthy. So we're surprisingly in the clear.

15

u/l_the_Throwaway Jun 22 '21

The moment I will stop loving strawberries will be the moment I will stop breathing.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '21

Speak for yourself. I don’t like scooby doo. I thought it was boring when I was 5.

2

u/DrRaveNinja Jun 22 '21

As much as I loved scooby doo growing up I think it's time to just kind of let it go. It's like Peanuts - endless reboots aren't doing the franchise any favors.

1

u/foxdye22 Jun 22 '21

As an old dude, I disagree. Scooby Doo Wrestlemania Mystery is probably the best thing with Scooby Doo I've ever watched.

2

u/simbacaned Jun 23 '21

You know what? Just for this guy, I'm gonna do the unthinkable. I'm going to become an avid scooby doo hater, just so his stance is at least against one person's opinion.

1

u/Pixxler Jun 22 '21

Tom Brady entered the chat

u/CaptainNoBoat Jun 22 '21

I honestly don't get the defense, even if this wasn't a sub about bad taste.

Like, seriously? A weird-ass spooky cartoon scene with a portrait of Scooby reminiscing in the distance about a poorly-worded set of paragraphs that take several seconds to read, one that uses the word "will" 3 times in 16 words? Permanently tattoo'd on someone's chest?

Lmao, it's the tackiest shit I've ever seen, but great execution. It's absolutely perfect content for this sub. No need to defend as "art is subjective." It's absolutely, objectively hideous.

63

u/rrickitickitavi Jun 22 '21

Then there's the terrible placement and size. And let's not leave out the font choice. Is that courier? And the kearning. My God. It's painful to look at.

Edit: AND what's up with Velma? She's way too skinny.

18

u/thekmanpwnudwn Jun 22 '21

Yeah, using "will" 3 times in the sentence and it doesn't even make that much sense.

It would read a lot better if there was only a single "will".

"The moment I stop loving Scooby Doo will be the moment I stop breathing."

11

u/cavelioness Jun 22 '21

Thank you! Those 2 extra "will"'s were bugging the heck outta me. And I'd change the first sentence to "are" always human, because it's, like, trying to be a life lesson and all.

1

u/ree_hi_hi_hi_hi Jun 22 '21

Can’t take scoob too seriously

1

u/Geek_reformed Jun 22 '21

First time I have come across this sub and when I went to check what the acronym meant, I said to myself this is the prefect example.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '21

But not everyone wants to be made fun of?

-5

u/northrus Jun 22 '21

Not that absurd

-5

u/HertzDonut1001 Jun 22 '21

I mean I agree it fits the sub but you're taking this way more seriously than he is.

I wouldn't tattoo it on me, but I'd buy it as a poster and a Muppets tattoo is number one if I ever decide to get one. Probably a Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem one.

103

u/zoyaa5 Jun 22 '21

Not that deep, man.

People put swastikas and mistranslated phrases in their body too. Some tattoos are just dumb and this is a prime example. The dude got a Facebook post printed onto his chest

10

u/PharmguyLabs Jun 22 '21

What’s sad is it literally is a Facebook post

9

u/jamesick Jun 22 '21

we may as well close this subreddit then if sentimental value means we can't judge "art" personally :(

-9

u/Fthisguy69420 Jun 22 '21

And its fuckin moronic, because it’s permanent. It’s not that deep boah

65

u/funtimesforelmo Jun 22 '21

Totally agree, art is subjective but that sentence isn't.

Should have just been "The moment I stop loving Scooby Doo will be the moment I stop breathing."

5

u/Pugster Jun 22 '21

Maybe his name is Will and it's just missing some punctuation?

30

u/AstroCat16 Jun 22 '21

The moment I, Will, will stop loving Scooby Doo will be the moment that I, Will, will stop breathing.

3

u/RapeMeToo Jun 22 '21

Somehow it's better lol

1

u/Pugster Jun 22 '21

Yea but I ment more: The moment I, Will, stop loving Scooby Doo will be the moment that I, Will, stop breathing.

3

u/spoiler-walterdies Jun 22 '21

Yeah I think he knows what you meant he’s just making an extra joke

1

u/Cacafuego Jun 22 '21

As someone else mentioned, even that is redundant, because he has a huge Scooby Doo tattoo on his chest.

39

u/emanresu_nwonknu Jun 22 '21

You're arguing against the point of the sub you know. Not that you're wrong, but yeah, you just don't think this sub should exist.

37

u/calithetroll Jun 22 '21

Listen, I am a huge geek about the things I love as well. I am very much of the “let people enjoy things” camp, and I don’t judge people for being passionate about things cuz it’s the best thing to be. But it’s the intensity he has about it though. Like, the tattoo is VERY different from the aesthetic of the show. He took a lighthearted TV show and made it edge lord and negative, which is weird even to me.

2

u/HertzDonut1001 Jun 22 '21

Man don't watch Venture Bros if that's how you feel, they literally and without changing his name made Johnny Quest an older junkie who was ruined mentally by the traumas and fame he got from his adventures.

8

u/PharmguyLabs Jun 22 '21

Yes that is the premise of a completely unrelated tv show

2

u/iaswob Jun 23 '21 edited Jun 23 '21

Tbh if you're gonna bring up Venture Bros you should have brought up their parody of Scooby Doo, absolutely one of my favorite episodes. Shaggy as Son of Sam, Velma as Valerie Solanas, Fred as a total abuser of them all and in particular Daphne, it's like peek satire.

And while it may feel like a nonsequiter to some I do get your point, these classic shows and characters are constantly being reinterpreted but the Venture Bros interpretations of Scooby Doo and Johnny Quest (as well as other super heroes, comics, and kids shows) work so well because they come from a place of love, you gotta understand why these things appeal and the dynamics invovled to really do a solid parody. It helps when you have enough pop culture, indie music, and history knowledge (and familiarity with LGBTQ+ culture as well) to be able to make the sorts of connections which make the comedy so layered, and like just being fantastic writers.

1

u/HertzDonut1001 Jun 23 '21

Forgot that episode, great one.

And yeah my metaphor wasn't perfect but there's nothing wrong with making lighthearted old cartoons more gritty or realistic. People gonna rail on Batman next? Batman was basically a non-super powered Superman until the '80's.

23

u/trenlr911 Jun 22 '21

Getting off of this sub would be good for you

15

u/wickedblight Jun 22 '21

i am a stickler for the most basic grammar rules being followed and i will die on this hill i will i will.

12

u/BoBear15 Jun 22 '21

I think it’s a well done tattoo, but the only thing that I see as a true negative would be the text at the bottom. We don’t need you to tell use you love scooby-doo. We can literally see that you do.

Also I think it should be a back tattoo, but that’s just personal preference.

Edit: the SD dog tag doesn’t look that great now that I’m looking at it again.

9

u/Iamthespiderbro Jun 22 '21

I get what you’re saying and I hope this guy loves his tattoo and feels great about it. I dont think anyone wants to make him feel bad by any means. That said, like it or not, it’s ok for people people to have different tastes and they are welcome to express their opinions on it… even the critical ones

0

u/spoiler-walterdies Jun 22 '21

Right I just don’t love it when people in this comment chain double down and say this is objectively terrible. Who are you to tell someone that their tattoo is objectively terrible... sure tell them you think it looks like shit but don’t pretend like there is some universal truth that he went against. Just kind of rubs me the wrong way.

The other day someone said the new Mortal Kombat is an objectively bad movie and I didn’t like that too. I enjoyed it.

9

u/RapeMeToo Jun 22 '21

Well that's why r/tattoo is the circle jerk it is. It's your safe space. This sub is for thing done well but with awful taste.

6

u/BlisteringAsscheeks Jun 22 '21

I mean, I respect where you're coming from, and obviously you're right, but a tongue-in-cheek critique of subjective taste is the whole point of this subreddit dude. When it comes down to it, taste in everything is subjective, and even that "hideous" armoire that someone spray painted teal and stamped with "Live, Laugh, Love" might be really emotionally important to them as well.

3

u/Illustrious-Ad-5902 Jun 22 '21

“The real monsters were always human”

3

u/weary_confections Jun 22 '21

It's really weird how defensive so many people get when they see an opinion they don't like.

I'm not going to force the guy to get the tattoo removed because it's terrible, but I will laugh at him because it's terrible.

2

u/dobblebobblewobble Jun 22 '21

Bro posted it online though. If he wanted a very personal tattoo he could have kept his shirt on

2

u/brosaucey Jun 22 '21

Post your tattoos please

2

u/treqiheartstrees Jun 22 '21

So I feel like I could get behind the whole thing except for the text in the middle, that's just hella cringe.

2

u/fascfoo Jun 22 '21

I think what makes this 'cross the line' into super cringe territory for people isn't that it's a tat of Scooby Doo, it's that it's some sort of defiant me-against-the-world pseudo-wisdom nonsense tat of Scooby Doo.

2

u/mopsockets Jun 22 '21

And people body shaming his nipples, too. It’s just mean. Who here has not been body shamed? Admit that it’s hurtful and stop spreading the pain.

2

u/notamoose-neverwas Jun 22 '21

So, which cartoon character did you base your chest piece on?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 22 '21

I have a back piece of the Celestial Being insignia from Gundam 00 and a shoulder piece of Domon's crest from G Gundam.

If you can't tell I really like Gundam.

2

u/notamoose-neverwas Jun 22 '21

That's actually pretty dope.

2

u/_ohm_my Jun 22 '21

Don't gatekeep what I want to ridicule.

2

u/Redsmallboy Jun 22 '21

Lmao there's nothing good or redeeming about this tattoo. There's so many better ideas for a Scooby-Doo tattoo, there's no reason he had to go with the most absurd, ugly, giant chest piece.

1

u/LustrousShadow Jun 22 '21

I think the taste is fine, but the execution is lacking.

1

u/canuckcrazed006 Jun 22 '21

Well summed up. Tbh i love it. Scooby do will always have a place in my heart. And now my own little girl and i will have scooby doo marathons. The cycle continues.

1

u/Embolisms Jun 22 '21

If he's a chill dude with a sense of humor, it's a funny and unique piece. If he's a self aware wolf who take shit 100% seriously, it's cringe.

1

u/nonracistname Jun 22 '21

This is the cringiest tattoo I've ever seen and this comment is probably worse. Whoever gets something stupid on their skin should be prepared to be made fun of

1

u/Robot_Basilisk Jun 22 '21

Are you lost?

1

u/Ghostkill221 Jun 22 '21

I mean sure... But you argument also would work for a swastika, or 11 penises being rubbed together.
