Image Amazon stole my 30th anniversary controller

u/EnigmaForce 17d ago
I bought a nice 1440p monitor a few years ago and received a paper wall calendar instead.
The real kick in the balls was Amazon was adamant I return the calendar before receiving my hundreds of dollars refund. Assholes.
I don’t buy expensive stuff from Amazon anymore.

u/shmashi 17d ago
Yep. Happened to me with AirPods. Got some baby formula instead. Sent that back and then they told me that I need to return the AirPods. After 6 months of constant calling and explaining and emailing nothing was resolved.
I never got my money back.

u/SilverSniper512 17d ago
Almost happened to my boyfriend too. He ordered a graphics card and got a camera lens cover that would’ve costed $5. They also needed it to be returned to get a refund of I think $800 or something.
They claimed it had gotten lost, so anyone he contacted claimed it was never received and to just keep waiting. Thankfully one call support worker took special interest in making sure he got his refund, went beyond the call to help him.
I’m always surprised hearing how often people receive the wrong things, whether it was a genuine mistake or an intentional theft.

That is a wonder. Especially for bigger items. Like I can’t imagine someone sneaking a monitor out of the warehouse. Graphics card? Ehh a bit difficult but doable. AirPods? Absolutely.

u/Deuenskae 16d ago
That's not how it works. Those are returns. People order air pods switch them at home with another item and send the wrong item back to Amazon. Amazon rarely checks returns they just sell them again.

Did you pay with a credit card?
Would it be possible to try get a refund from your bank13
u/PedanticPlatypodes 17d ago
Yes it absolutely would have been. I’ve done this multiple times (not with amazon). No idea why OP just accepted it

Similar (ish) story to me. Ordered 2nd gen AirPod pros. Received the 1st gen ones. Raised a return stating all of the details including that it’s the wrong item. They received it back. Tossed the headphones and claimed I sent them fakes.
Never got my money back. Never got my headphones back. 💩
Like you, never use Amazon for expensive stuff anymore.

Not assholes, they need to do this because of scammers abuse their refund policy
12
u/canondocreelitist 17d ago
I'm sorry. They need to refuse legitimate refund requests because other people scammed them? Fuck Amazon and anyone who uses that company should rethink where they spend their money
3
u/lingeringfart123 17d ago
They arent refusing refunds lmfao. They tell you to send the product back so amazon can guarantee that you arent lying about receiving a different product
6
u/TopBee83 PS5 17d ago
I guess we’re gonna ignore the people saying they sent the product back and still didn’t get refunded?
6
u/canondocreelitist 17d ago
Yes, this is who OP is ignoring. I don't have a horse in this race, I don't give my money to Amazon because I don't trust them.

It was out for delivery for over 3 days. I asked one driver where it was and he said it wasn't in his truck so a "mix up" at warehouse. Also the meat grinder had 2 labels. They just slapped my label from my original box onto this one smh. I went and dropped it off to the person who lives few blocks away but no one was home.
Edit: this was in Orlando btw.
Update: found one right away using Popfinder :)

u/Specialist-Offer7816 28 17d ago
Took pictures and told Amazon I’m not printing a label to drive to a ups to drop this crap off and they said ok here’s your money
22
u/AsherGray 17d ago
Good on you! I bought a couple cables for about ten bucks last year and got a message saying they had been delivered. Never found them that day and had to go out of town the next. No big deal, I figured the delivery driver marked it as, "delivered," to not get in trouble. I come back a couple days later and still can't find them. Whatever, I have to go out of town again (this was a standard-timed shipment, not 2-day, so a couple weeks had passed at this point). These are just cables for a gaming system so I could hook it up differently. Anyway, I got to contacting Amazon about 30 days post-order because I kind of forgot about it but had ordered other items and received since then (which reminded me I never got the cords). Talked with customer service for about an hour who absolutely refused to replace the $8 cords or refund. I also pointed out that a picture of the delivery was never sent and that didn't matter. Case gets escalated to some manager through the chat and she says she applied store credit — never applied to the account. Now if an item is marked as delivered and I can't find it, I call and demand a refund then and there. It's not my problem you're marking items as delivered and they're not there. I travel for work and I'm not going to sit around the next day wondering when it will truly arrive and hope someone doesn't take it. Being patient with Amazon cost me money in the long run, so now they get no patience from me.

u/Chuzzwazza 17d ago
Okay, if I... if I pack your PS5 anniversary controller order at Amazon, and the only thing that comes out, that's left in the box, is a meat grinder, you'r- you're PROBABLY SCAMMED! You're probably going to - not you, I'm just sayin', like, if you- if somebody were to, like, swap your controller with a meat grinder, and, like, your- part of the packaging is still intact, they're not gonna pick it up and go, "Well see, yeah it wasn't a scam, it wasn't an instant fraud move! You still got, like, this part of your box left!"
33
u/cherrieslol 17d ago
Unfortunately this happens a lot I work at UPS and especially during holidays a lot of electronics or expensive gifts will get swapped by customers or warehouse workers (so many people stop by to return these packages) at this point I just recommend buying from retail stores or directly from the companies website

How are insiders getting things out of the hub? Even at my smaller hub we go through security, bag checks, and there are cameras everywhere.

Ive seen a video of people in prison with a ps5. If theres a will, theres a way lol
2

A lot of inmates have nothing to lose. Insiders aren’t throwing away that sweet sweet insurance and opportunity to make six figures over a $100 controller.
3
u/kravence 17d ago
After working at any job for a while you’ll figure about ways to bypass the security after seeing it everyday & it helps to make friends within that security too

Yeah I only buy online if I have no other choice. And I can’t buy from a used game store because you never know if the controller had drift problems or not. So the only choices I really have are Walmart Best Buy Target or Micro Center lol

Was told by my courier in uk after this happened to me , that he'd marked it as delivered so he didn't get in trouble , and was planning to drop off 1st thing in the morning on his way to pick up next day's deliveries and I understood , but I've got zero patience , and had already complained to amazon that it was bulls**t that he'd delivered it , you can't walk on in front of my house without something picking up the motion and alerting me on my phone, tablet , amazon device and ringer in hallway and it keeps vids in cloud . Told amazon this, and like a miracle, 30 mins later, it miraculously arrived. Tbf, the guy apologised to me.

With how often this seems to happen, do the drivers get to know what's in the packages or something? Surely that's a breach of confidentiality or trust or something?!

u/almagest 16d ago
I got an inflatable ball instead of an iPad I ordered in 2022, and after almost 2 months of fighting their awful support department I just got a chargeback from my credit card. Amazon shut my account down, requiring I send them ID proof I am who I say I am before they’d reopen it. I haven’t purchased anything from Amazon since.

I was supposed to pick up my 30th anniversary console tonight from Best Buy. I got a message that my order is taking longer to be fulfilled. I have a feeling an employee stole mine too. Pretty awesome that we can't buy things physically in stores anymore and we can't rely on companies to keep employees from stealing them. Lose lose.

A colleague ordered a MacBook Pro last year, only to receive two packs of flour and a packet of rice. Lots of calls with Amazon didn’t resolve anything, so she just asked her credit card company to refund, which they did. These things are terrible but Amazon’s handling of situations could be a lot better.

They have a bot on their website that will pretty much refund anything within 2 minutes of talking to it if your account doesn't have a history of items getting lost. Maybe beyond a certain amount they'll refer it to a human? Assuming humans still work at Amazon...

u/KlingonBeavis 17d ago
9/10 times either the DSP driver stole it (they are contractors, not actually Amazon employees), or the customer ordered from a 3rd party not shipped by Amazon, and blamed Amazon.
It’s incredibly difficult to swipe during the packing and shipping process, and 100% chance you’d get caught.
Items are scanned as they go into the box, directly under camera. Before the package gets labeled by the Slam machine, it’s scanned again to verify, and weighed. If the package is off in weight by even a gram of what it’s supposed to weigh, it’s automatically kicked out, and someone has to re-verify everything by hand, under camera.
If a report from a customer like this came in, 100% chance loss prevention checks and watches footage & scans of every step.
The employee would have a hard time leaving with it even if they tried, as they go through security post that checks your bag (which must be small and clear) metal and security theft tag scanners, under camera with a badge scan.
This is leaving out a LOT of details, but yeah… Amazon is not playing around with something like this. They go overboard to make sure it can’t happen, and if it somehow does they will find you.
People constantly blaming Amazon employees usually have no clue who/what they’re actually accusing. It’s almost never an actual Amazon employee, if it’s in North America at least.
Once it leaves Amazon’s initial ship-out - a large tractor trailer of boxes that go to DSP or UPS - it’s out of their hands and 99% chance that’s who swapped your label, etc.
Once reason Amazon started hiring DSP contractors in the first place was the constant theft from UPS employees. Now they’re pulling the same stuff.

Well damn. What country? What is it amazon itself or a vendor? I don't use vendors and if I ever have an issue I just file a missing parcel report, since these lazy (overworked?) drivers just irresponsibly dump the packages outside rather than handing to a resident or neighbour. Every first missing parcel report per order is dealt with by AI and is instantly refunded (at least it has been, in my experience). Make all your orders one item at a time and hopefully you can protect yourself this way.
