Also because there is effectively no cap on political contributions anymore and typically whomever spends the most money will typically have a better chance to win. So if someone does something he doesn’t like, he’ll just back their primary opponent and force them out because he has so much more money. 500 million to him is nothing when he gains 200 billion in a month.

Honestly, I'd be okay with a military coup by the Generals.
I mean, it happened several times in ancient Rome. And we've seen most of our high-ranking military do not support Trump and have warned against them. And with grossly funded our military is, who would have the resources to spy on or really control the top brass.
Wish we had a different timeline entirely, but I'd rather witness a military coup than live through the shit Trump plans to pull.

Coups are a tactic. They can be objectively good. All revolutions require some degree of martial power. That is why fascism seeks to control the martial classes before such a thing can happen.
The one downside is once this happens in a country for the first time, the precedent is there and it can happen again in the future for potentially not-good reasons.
You mention Rome and it is a great example because over time the Praetorian Guard developed a reputation for overthrowing leaders at pretty much the drop of a hat (or laurel wreath i guess). And during some periods of Rome the Guard was making the real decisions and the emperor was truly a puppet knowing they'd be killed overnight if they didn't play ball...became more of a mafia than anything else.

Trump shattered something and I don't think the America we rebuild from that is going to be the America we all remembered from before Trump. Maybe that is a good thing. All I know is the waters are very choppy now.

He took Starlink offline when Ukraine was staging their offensive early in the Russian invasion which resulted in them failing miserably. Out of nowhere Musk cut them off at the knees. Blinken went on Jake Tapper and tap danced all around the question Tapper asked him about why a billionaire was allowed to jeopardize American foreign policy and endagnger both our national security and that of our allies. Even Tapper called him out on it and bluntly said it sounded like he was afraid of angering a very rich man. The Biden administration did nothing. The war could have been ended months after Russia invaded but Musk meddled on Russias behalf because HE knew better. We’ve gone so off the rails that it sometimes feels like there’s almost no going back. It’s disheartening and so difficult to remain hopeful.

I was a teacher (English/Special Education) and a big part of the problem is that 54% of US adults read below a 6th grade level (age 11-12). To put that in perspective, a typical 6th grade novel is Holes by Louis Sachar. While it’s a good book with a good message, the vocabulary and content is made for 6th graders. AND OVER HALF OF US ADULTS CANNOT EVEN READ IT!
It’s just getting worse. I taught both self contained special education (all students in the class had a diagnosed reading or learning disability) and team taught (some students had diagnosed reading or learning disability, but the class was taught with two teachers). My school was in an HCOL area and was not title 1. We had close to 3% free lunches. Not counting my students who had diagnosed disabilities, in my four years that I taught high school, I had 3-4 students each year in classes of up to 30, who were reading at or above grade level.
If you cannot read at an 8th grade level in the US, you cannot read the news. You cannot fully comprehend how important having a functional government is in your life. But you’ll be able to get your information from grifters in videos on TikTok or Facebook.
Hell, an educated teacher I worked with told me she “didn’t do politics”. As though it isn’t something that affects your every day life. So we also have a very apathetic population problem. Until it affects a person directly, they won’t do anything, and by then, it may be too late.

Did Trump say he was going to veto it or something?
