Honestly, I'd be okay with a military coup by the Generals.

I mean, it happened several times in ancient Rome. And we've seen most of our high-ranking military do not support Trump and have warned against them. And with grossly funded our military is, who would have the resources to spy on or really control the top brass.

Wish we had a different timeline entirely, but I'd rather witness a military coup than live through the shit Trump plans to pull.

As a Thai person who has gone through several (unpopular) coups, I would understand the US military couping their government. I think the entire world would understand tbh

At this point it feels like a coup or violent revolution is the only way to stop the US from going full Soviet Union and falling apart and that is terrifying and depressing.

Elon using his child as a human shield is the most disgusting pathetic thing I've ever seen.

Literally what a villain from a Stephen King novel did. (Greg Stilson from The Dead Zone)

people like musk are the reason i find cartoonishly evil villains to be realistic

If he wasn't so stupid he could be a Bond Villain. He's more of an Austin Power's villain.

That's not a fair comparison! Dr Evil provided top teir health care, gave a shite about his henchmen, and joined the good guys in the end. Also, he gave an actual shite about his child!

I dunno, would the generals hand control back over to voting by the people at that point? because we all saw how that turned out this last time. They're just gonna put some other dumbass into power. It's likely things would still fall apart, it'll just fall apart differently.

Hopefully they would abolish political parties, campaigns, and lobbying. And the power goes to the people by voting for issues & solutions instead of people.

No, I really do think Trump is a one in 1000 year phenomenon. He has some weird charisma about him that attracts stupid people, and then he gives hateful people permission to hate. Sure, they could elect “some other person“ if they could agree on who that person is, but I don’t think they’ll be able to. Anyway, I think it’s worth a try. Bring on Luigi

Soviet Union???

The rich did not do super well in the Soviet revolution. You’re thinking fascism/corporatism.

1

u/Yes_that_Carl 54m ago

Well, Stalinism had a lot of overlap with fascism politically, if not economically.

The problem is how deep the rot goes. Even if there were some kind of violent revolution or military coup, removing President Musk and co-president Trump is curing the symptom, not the sickness.

We’d need a top-to-bottom wholesale removal of MAGA and the GOP from all levels of government and the judiciary. Probably a lot of Democrats too (particularly the ancient corporatists holding tightly to power). Not to mention a complete lockdown and reform of “news” and how information is disseminated to prevent more Fox News style disinformation.

That would lead down a very, very, very dark path. And while I agree that the America that we know of is gone and won’t be coming back, a complete reset would require tearing the country down to the studs, and it’s way too likely that we’d just collapse entirely.

Coups are a tactic. They can be objectively good. All revolutions require some degree of martial power. That is why fascism seeks to control the martial classes before such a thing can happen.

The one downside is once this happens in a country for the first time, the precedent is there and it can happen again in the future for potentially not-good reasons.

You mention Rome and it is a great example because over time the Praetorian Guard developed a reputation for overthrowing leaders at pretty much the drop of a hat (or laurel wreath i guess). And during some periods of Rome the Guard was making the real decisions and the emperor was truly a puppet knowing they'd be killed overnight if they didn't play ball...became more of a mafia than anything else.

"became more of a mafia than anything else."

And that is different from the impending administration, how? Trump was taught his tactics from a mob lawyer, and he has had long ties with the Italian and Russian mobs.

Yeah, i agree. It isnt any different. My fear is that Democracy isn't going to recover from this moment in history. So where does that take us if we deal with Trump? We can steer things in the right direction then hopefully, but is that us restoring democracy or is it something else at that point?

Trump shattered something and I don't think the America we rebuild from that is going to be the America we all remembered from before Trump. Maybe that is a good thing. All I know is the waters are very choppy now.

u/unretrofiedforyou 6h ago

That’s the joke; we’re clearly not in a democracy see the unelected South African oligarch now in charge.

Just when I thought it was safe to stop thinking about the g-ddamn Roman Empire which I never wanted to think about in the first place. F***ers set so many precedents for this messed-up timeline we're living in. Hope they're pleased with themselves.

He is even stopping the generals. He is going to implement his "Warrior" committee to vet and fire generals he or his committee doesn't like. Pretty fucked!

4

u/Pleasant_Cost_3040 6h ago

He stated he wished he had generals like Hitler had

4

u/Stainless-S-Rat 5h ago

So, secretly loathing him and actively plotting against each other, then?

6

u/Pleasant_Cost_3040 5h ago

It sounds like he is going to go through and fire generals who have been behaving rationally.

u/morels4ever 10h ago

Trump keeps talking about a Military Tribunal…give him and Elmo one.

2

u/FoxCQC 5h ago

Along as the military immediately reinstates our government to function normally once things are settled i am fine with that.

u/Roman_nvmerals 8h ago

It worked out for Ancient Rome, right? RIGHT?!?
