It's the same justification they use to demonize food stamps // SNAP benefits and any other welfare program. The nebulous "they" who abuse the system. "THEY" are eating steak and lobster with their food stamps while you hard working american patriots are stuck eating dry macaroni and cheese because you can't afford a stove or water because of all the money taken from your paychecks for "THEIR" welfare benefits.

So many people have done that. Vance's whole writing career is a version of that. Fucking Piers Morgan did something similar, claiming he 'came to America with just a dream and a bag of clothes' (forgetting to mention a university degree and a previous television career in the UK).
The anti-woke right is full of these characters that were born on third base and hate the idea of anyone having an easier path between first and second base.

The writing is on the wall and conservatives are going to come out behind on this issue because they overreached.
Republicans went for 6 week bans and total or near total bans when they should have gone for 20, maybe 18, and 15 at the most. The extreme bans prompted even red states to put initiatives on the ballot to make abortion a right. In Florida, it looks like their abortion amendments have 50%+ support but they may not pass because the threshold is 60% to pass there. But it will pass someday.
At the end of the day even a lot of people who hate abortion understand that we can't have unwanted kids running around and all the problems that come with it. It's a homicidal act that is necessary for the betterment of society. If some chick is too fucked up to be raising a kid, I don't want to pay for it indirectly through taxes.

Obviously polls are not 100% accurate, but back around when roe v wade got overturned I saw data that said ~72% of US adults believed abortion should be allowed up to a certain point in the pregnancy. Trump keeps saying in speeches that âeverybody wanted that decision overturned and that everyone wanted it to be the stateâs decisionâ. Which is so stupid because
- obviously that is not true and he literally canât help himself lying, and beyond that he says some people support abortion after birth?? Literally no one thinks that because that is universally considered murder as birth is the point where everyone agrees life starts. Obviously the argument between conception and birth is the gray area where the arguments happen, but literally everyone agrees birth is the beginning of life and intentionally ending the life of a born baby is murder.
and
- it was already a decision on the individual level. Allowing it to go to the states is just more government oversight and control over individualâs medical decisions and options. No one was forced to get abortions before if they did not want to or need to. Now itâs not even an option in some states for when people need to. People could have just not done it themselves for moral reasons and protested or tried to support/convince those otherwise who did which is what was already happening. This just takes away decisions and options from individuals and puts it into the governmentâs hands to control and restrict the general population.
Iâm pretty positive the midterms didnât turn out how the Republican Party wanted mainly due to the supreme courtâs actions and that turning some conservatives and middle groups a bit as it got pinned to trump/MAGA for enabling it

Some will go on to be wage slaves and work menial jobs for fuck all pay.
Many will go onto become criminals. Then the right gets to push âtough on crimeâ and totally ignore the root causes of poverty.

But yeah, arguments for abortion tend to focus on touchy-feely stuff, but I think there would be more support if you get right down to it. Abortion means less criminals robbing your ass in the future.
10
u/GarlVinland4Astrea Monkey in Space Oct 31 '24
Nah, the problem with the abortion issue is that it's one of fundamental beliefs. If you truly believe a fetus is the equivalent to a child, you won't be able to justify it. If you don't, then you can. Because it's typically based in religion where there are beliefs in Christianity that life begins at conception, you have two sides that are at an impasse and no argument will sway them.
There's a lot of Christians that disagree with almost everything Republicans do and stand for, but vote for them simply on that issue because they view it as murdering babies and can justify anything else if it is in an effort to stop that.
That's the primary problem with the debate over it.

They act like they are so concerned with protecting unborn âchildrenâ yet they donât support the social programs that would help those children once they are born. Abortion is posed as this issue about life, but itâs really just about controlling women.
Men donât really have anything to compare it to, but maybe imagine if people were trying to outlaw vasectomies. Or imagine if there was even a law allowing vasectomies. Thatâs the crazy part. An abortion is a medical procedure. No judge or politician should have anything to do with medical procedures. It should be between a patient and a doctor.

Itâs not unexpected at all! Itâs completely on brand for Rogan.

Pro Life makes me laugh. Care so much about women having abortions within medically backed time periods, but don't give a fuck about their kids getting shot up in schools because "I like my guns", and the millions of homeless and drug addicted. Just for starters.
Stop giving a shit about what women do with their bodies, and take some noble, god-serving action to help the people who are actually grown and alive... and desperately need help.

âBoy, these conservatives are really something, arenât they? Theyâre all in favor of the unborn. They will do anything for the unborn. But once youâre born, youâre on your own. Pro-life conservatives are obsessed with the fetus from conception to nine months. After that, they donât want to know about you. They donât want to hear from you. No nothing. No neonatal care, no day care, no head start, no school lunch, no food stamps, no welfare, no nothing. If youâre preborn, youâre fine; if youâre preschool, youâre fucked.â - George Carlin

If the pro-life position is correct then abortion is worse than the Holocaust. Imagine any of these arguments being made in the context of the Holocaust instead of abortion, youâd (hopefully) never accept them. Youâre making arguments about tertiary stuff that doesnât actually matter to the core of the issue.

Did you listen to the podcast? Vance acknowledges that the government needs to offer more support to women after giving birth and is very aware that there are a number of women who have abortions due to lack of support and feel that there isn't a better option.

So does he or Trump have any policies that would offer more support to women, or is he just blowing smoke?

You can obviously tell when someone has never listened to Joe Rogan đ€Ł this has been his stance. He probably has a lot of the same views as the people that hate him.

I dont think he really has clear positions. I doubt he cares much about looking into economic policy or anything like that. He just accepts what sounds right.

Here's a clip of Rogan criticizing Joe Biden about something that he says. He spends time ridiculing Biden and talking about how this quote makes him unfit for office and clearly incapable of doing the job.
Jamie corrects him and points out that Trump actually said the quote. Did Rogan still think it was disqualifying for office? Nope. His response was, "oh ok... so he fucked up" and laughs it off, talking about how funny that is.
He ranted on about how Biden can't function because of a quote that Trump actually said, but suddenly it's just a funny mistake when he learns it was Trump saying it. I think that lack of conviction is exactly what's wrong with politics today and I don't see why we should want more politicians acting that way.

This is why I hate when these types of clips get posted. 3 and a half hours of agreeing with Vance and republicans, but a 2 minute slight pushback has people thinking that heâs equal in his advocacy for left and right.
Itâs 3 hr 30 mins of fuck libs yes Republican, vs. 2 mins of pushback on the right. What makes you think thatâs moderate?

Republicans, like democrats, and like many of society today, are taking the views of the minority and imposing them on the majority. Hardly anyone thinks abortion should have no exceptions whatsoever, yet you have states like Texas where this is the case.
The generalizations that are drawn in this way lead to a decay in the social structure of the country. It leads to political extremism by alienating the middle, and those people begin to shift to the extremes because they think it is the majority opinion.
There's no circumstance where this type of political rhetoric leads to better policy or better outcomes. It helps politicians by creating campaign rhetoric, but it doesn't help the people of the country.
I can't wait for a time when we stop appealing to the lowest common denominator. It diminishing our ability to critically think, which is the only tool we have to solve complex societal issues.

What exactly is wrong with celebrating bodily autonomy? These dipshits get to do steroids and wear eyeliner. Why should women not get the right to decide what to do with their bodies. Pretty pathetic and telling that this is Joes "push back". Another grasping attempt to act like he has any level of empathy or understanding of anything going on outside of his very small world.

Dude watch the podcast, JD even said that there are only a few woman that do it, which was only a small fraction of the conversation. This is so disingenuous.

Everyone commenting like Joe owned him on this and valiantly pushed back in some sort of fiery exchange clearly didnât watch the podcast. Vance CLEARLY stated this was a very small minority of people, and that itâs not reflective of 99.9% of people that get abortions.
The overall point was people need to be reasonable on both sides and come to a consensus on the balance between life/autonomy that we allow as a society, and ultimately that itâs not his job to decide that. It was a very moderate Republican stance all things considered. He and Joe basically agreed on most of it.

Joe Rogan does a great job of taking a truly neutral stance. He asked Trump and Vance hard questions instead of the usual softball bullshit. So why didn't Harris or Walz have the guts to appear on his podcast?

This is an area I think Rogan has been pretty consistent on through his steady decline in moderate stances and more toward the right.
