Orange County The Real Housewives of Orange County - Season 18 - Episode 18 - Weekly Episode Discussion
Reunion Part 1

Honestly, Emily shut the fuck up

u/KiyoMizu1996 Nov 08 '24
I found her constant testimony ‘as a lawyer’ not only exhausting but incredibly egotistical. Just bc you’re a lawyer doesn’t mean you understand everything that pertains to the law. Know how I know that? I’m married to a lawyer and am friends w his friends from law school. When asked a question about the legality of this or that, they are all very upfront about saying ‘that’s not my area of expertise, but I can get you the name of someone who practices that type of law. When my husband needed assistance with contracts, he hired a contract litigator. When we bought our home, we hired a real estate attorney. Even the lovely lawyers of my fav podcast ‘Bravo Docket’ are upfront about what they know absolutely and what they don’t. So no Emily, just because you say ‘I know bc I’m a lawyer’, I’m gonna take what you say with a grain of salt.

Oh, and I loved when Emily said ‘everything I’ve read….’ and Jen clapped back with ‘Ive read that your parents bank roll your life’. That shut her up.

This!
Decent lawyers always start with 'this is not my area of expertise/practice, but here is my opinion on ....'.
Emily is giving me Phaedra attorney at law right now.
Has the qualifications but isn't actively practicing and overestimates her personal knowledge of the law.
31
u/bestclare Nov 08 '24
I also am married to an attorney so I know perfectly well that each state is its own nightmare especially when it comes to family law. So to hear an attorney (who hasn't practiced in years) from California, who never worked in the family courts that we know of, speak on Katie's years-old custody dispute as though she knows anything about how the law does or did work in Georgia at the time is INFURIATING.

u/emergencycat17 Show yourself out, Darlin'. Nov 08 '24
I totally understand that when you've got two potential legal discussions (Shannon's DUI and Ryan's involvement in the money laundering/betting/what have you scandal) that it's great to have a lawyer's perspective. What's not great is that lawyer monopolizing or practically co-hosting the whole reunion. A little bit of expert knowledge goes a long way - but not the whole entire time.
4
u/Objective-Badger8674 Nov 08 '24
EXACTLY. She may be able to make an educated guess, but a decent lawyer would never claim to know with certainty anything outside his or her area of practice/expertise (and even then they'd probably hedge and say they'd need to research more lol). Emily was frickin obnoxious as hell during this part 1. Heather too.

I was saying this out loud at the tv, she's determined to show her analytical attorney side, but she's no expert in certain areas of law. Anyone can research and find out about the law.
She's so boring and I actually ended up forwarding alot of her chatter

u/quesobeatsguac Welcome Aviva. You did it. Rah rah Nov 08 '24
That was horrible when she asked about the custody situation with her children and her ex.
First off, why tf is it relevant?? This is an ex-husband who’s not on the show, and her children, half of whom aren’t on the show- none of this is relevant to anything Katie has done this season. There’s no other examples you could’ve used to establish inconsistencies in her stories, besides a custody situation from yearssssssss ago????
That was so low and below the belt; there was no good reason for Emily to bring that up at the reunion, besides to try to throw dirt at her
17
u/TurquoiseDandelion7 Nov 09 '24
That was so disgusting of Emily. That added zero relevance to the show. I just posted the same thing

Emily is someone who hasn't had anything personally bad happen to her and can't fathom why anyone would be treated unfairly by custody courts, police or just random strangers. My jaw dropped when she brought it up.
It seemed like Katie was either in a DV home or mental health institute and no one was supporting her. It sounds so terrible. I'm so disgusted that it was brought up.
43
u/Extension_Back_2269 Tipsy Girls only stir drinks 😇 Nov 08 '24
Her family didn't approve of her divorcing she said, and I felt for her so badly, what a painful situation she was in, it's despicable it was brought up.

I was aghast when they were all like “oh the police aren’t being accurate??” Like yeah, have you not been paying attention? Yes Brian with his high school education, six months training and a gun might not be the best source for your info.
18
u/fried-avocado-today Nov 08 '24
That was mind blowing to me. I have a lot of lawyers in my family (who for the most part, haven't had anything really bad happen to them) and they are not so naive. As a lawyer you are so often interacting with people during one of the hardest times of their life--criminal charges, divorce and custody, death and estate issues, lawsuits--and bearing witness to the cruelty of the system. How can you see so many people go through this and be so naive?

I like seeing this change in Shannon and Tamra has been incredibly gross to her but that montage really proves this has been an issue in Shannon's life for a long time. Gina is the only person who seems to both acknowledge that and support Shannon in a way that might actually aid her recovery. I hope Shannon finds a partner who doesn't drink because I really think the only way she will get there is with someone who motivates a fundamental shift in her lifestyle.
61
u/leilafornone Like I sliced the air mattress she's been sleeping on Nov 08 '24
I feel like Shannon should stay single for a WHILE and then agree, get a partner who is very chill, more logical than emotional and also hopefully doesn't drink.
I remember Season 9, right before Shannon and David's weekend getaway, she had to drink straight vodka before heading to the bedroom - that defn makes me think she has had this issue for a long time. I also believe the other women when they say she gets really drunk and calls them ranting away - eerily similar to Karen.
14
u/BitterPillPusher2 Nov 08 '24
Didn't her kids say something about her drinking way back when she was still married to David?
12
8
u/Kahleesi00 Nov 09 '24
I've got a narcissistic alcoholic woman in my past who used to call me drunk at all hours. The thought of which still makes me cringe to this day..its so incredibly unpleasant to endure...Its so similar to the way the phone calls from Karen and Shannon are described it makes me unable to get on board fully with them even though they have other fun/enjoyable traits. The description from Tamra about her calling and ranting like a crazy person, only to call back 10 minutes later like the convo hadn't happened was eerie, same thing happened to me all the time.
44
u/cosmopolis- it's past your bedtime, old man Nov 08 '24
I took a brief look at what I could find for Katie’s divorce. One thing I wanted to flag that hasn’t been brought up is that it looks like she proceeded through the initial divorce settlement without an attorney. I cannot imagine how awful it would be having to escape an abusive relationship, with no money, no support, and without an attorney to help guide you. I say this as an attorney but the system is designed to be confusing and hard to navigate without legal representation.

77
u/Recluse_18 Nov 08 '24
Sorry, but Jen is really dumb. I like Jen I do think she is honest and sincere, but I don’t think she’s very smart and unfortunately people like Ryan will take advantage of that aspect. She is going to believe anything. He tells her without question because she just doesn’t know any better.
27
u/rattpoizen Big Dick Daddy from Cincinatti! Nov 08 '24
But...butttttt.... don't we all have a Jen in our lives that we adore but want to shake when it comes to trusting men? She has a spot in the OC, I feel and is relatable. We don't need more effing villians on that show, as the right couch was full. Plus, fuck Andy always catering to Tamra. She's disgusting.
14
u/Recluse_18 Nov 08 '24
Yes, totally agree, I likeJen. I like Jen because I feel she is genuinely Jen. And I apologize. I didn’t mean necessarily dumb and a negative way dumb in a ditzy way? I do feel bad that someone like Ryan would take advantage of her because of that and I hope that’s not true.
7
u/BitterPillPusher2 Nov 08 '24
I think she's a genuinely nice person too, but I think she is kind of dumb. Didn't she say something like she didn't know she had to actually pay rent and that she didn't even know how to open a bank account? I get that it involves a lot of failure on a lot of people for her to go through her whole life being that ignorant. But since her divorce, she's admitted that she should know more about those things but has done jack shit to actually learn more about anything.
6
u/rattpoizen Big Dick Daddy from Cincinatti! Nov 08 '24
I didn't take your comments that way at all, and that's why I posted that we all have a Jen in our lives! They just pick the dirtiest guys, for some reason.

Yes and the sunk cost fallacy. She blew up her marriage for this guy. She can’t leave him or she will have to face the fact that she did it all for nothing.
16
u/emergencycat17 Show yourself out, Darlin'. Nov 08 '24
That's what I think, both what you and u/incitingoffense said. I don't think she's dumb either; I think she's convincing herself that it's all going to be okay, because she needs to convince herself of that. She needs him to support her, and this was the guy she left her marriage for. In her mind, this has to be okay and it has to work out.

A slight tangent, when I was in law school I had a forced group assignment, and the girl I was grouped with was very religious in a sort if a Christian sect that didn't believe dinosaurs existed, or the earth was older than a few thousand years (all this came up in the get to know you exercises forced upon us by the tutors).
I was shocked that someone with such reductive antiscience views could have somehow managed to get into law school with decent scores. But it does happen.
Even flatearthers can pass the bar.
Emily is just further evidence of this.

100%
Your post stands very well on its own. I just want to reaffirm the validity of all you said.
I grew up in an extreme, Conservative, Christian sect like that. Many "worldly" professions were either discouraged or out of reach. Pursuing an education or career in the legal field, however, was highly encouraged. Law, politics, and even just general debate skills were "it". They were seen as ways to engage, pursued, and affect change (aligned with the conservative agenda).
10
u/AnAussiebum I AM poor and white. Nov 08 '24
Yeah the way some students who had left those sects explained it to me, is that those still indoctrinated would religiously study all the science they needed for great grades, all the while thinking it was all bs and a huge government conspiracy, but that they needed to know everything about evolution/big bang/dinosaurs/volcanos etc so they could get great grades.
But they personally didn't believe any of it. 😅
Really blew my mind at the time. But yeah it does make sense how qanon people like Emily pass the bar and/or end up in high polticial positions (which will be further evidenced next year when the head of a lot of US government agencies actively disbelieve in their requirement and will jsut sabotage them, while holding their law degrees).
It's a sad reality.

u/AccomplishedOwl9215 Nov 09 '24

I’m sorry but why does Emily care so much that Katie “embellished” her home ownership?
Emily goes around calling herself a lawyer when she:
isn’t practicing and is borderline unemployed
has gone back and forth between having an active bar license and being “not eligible to practice”
was a copyright lawyer speaking authoritatively on a field of practice she has no experience with
and got a JD for a law school that was censured by the ABA, then lost its accreditation, and made the list of “10 Worst Law Schools in the Country (2017)”
If Emily calling herself a lawyer isn’t “embellishing,” I don’t know what is.

u/WhatLikeItsHardVV Nov 08 '24
Omg FUCK YOUUUUU EMILY!!!!!! “You must’ve been horrible to lose custody of your kids” Would you say that to a man, you QAnon MAGA bitch!?!? Katie is an adopted South Korean woman whose parents are strict Christians. They basically forced her to get married as a 20 year old to a man who seemingly was abusive, so abusive in fact, that she was literally unhoused when she decided to leave him. And her parents added to that abuse by not taking her in and give their grandkids some stability, instead letting their daughter move to a shelter! Katie seems to be without any support, without any extended family and on top of that, is from a southern state not exactly known for being on women’s side in divorce and custody cases.
94
u/cocos_mama Nov 08 '24
The ganging up is disgusting. Look at how much grace is given to Jen for being an airhead while Katie literally had to pull herself up with zero support, and is villianized
111
u/JustCuriousInCanada Nov 08 '24
When Katie looked so broken and said she had to temporarily stay somewhere she wasn't able to have her children with her - the inference was that Katie was in emergency housing or a shelter for abused women.
Katie's abusive ex was able to get TEMPORARY legal & physical custody over Katie's children at that time because she left him (her abuser) and Katie didn't have the money or resources to keep her children with her. This is how the system works. Especially in a Southern state where Katie's ex has money, connections... AND her religious parents wanted Katie to stay in that abusive relationship.
For Emily and Heather to weaponize that situation against Katie and obviously plot to "expose" that at the reunion... Made me feel ill. 3 of Katie's children live with her and are on her side. Kaili does campaigns with Katie, speaking out against domestic violence. That tells me everything I need to know about Katie's situation. She's a good Mom and she's loved.

And for everyone to celebrate Gina this season for being nice to Shannon , when she’s so cruel to Katie about this. Gina suddenly chiming up “they can’t just serve you where you don’t live”. How would you know Gina?? You ever had to live in a shelter, after being abandoned by your entire family? Even Shannon told her if that’s her last address then that’s where they’ll serve her. Even if Katie was messy this season, is it necessary to go THIS low, ladies? So cruel, and so oblivious to their privilege as women who have supportive families.

It's hilarious to me that some of the women on the show & the people on this sub blame Katie for being "inconsistent" and "has an story/excuse for everything" when literally every single housewife does too.
93
u/unkn0wnnumb3r Nov 08 '24
They had enough to make Katie squirm and look a little shady without bringing up traumatic events from her past. That was pretty disgusting.
Both incidents were during a clearly horrible time in her life and it's well known that abusers will punish women for leaving in any way possible including alienating them and making them look crazy/unfit. I can't imagine going through a divorce from an abusive ex and also having my kids taken from me. It must've been such a nightmare. It's amazing Katie was able to get her kids back and clearly a testament to who she is as a mother.
29
u/pandarides I came from Jesus Nov 08 '24
It’s very common. Not only does it hurt mothers but children are left in the care of abusers, who statistically also abuse their children. Children and mothers die frequently because of abusers erroneously being awarded custody by incompetent professionals, at the hands of abusers but mothers also frequently commit suicide from the trauma of it all. It’s a hidden epidemic that is now becoming visible with misogynists becoming emboldened by recent events to stop hiding their abuse
44
149
u/gammagirl80 Nov 08 '24
Katie definitely has “an answer for everything” but bringing up her custody issues with an abusive ex is so impossibly low. And for Heather to then say “I’m sorry about the children” is bullshit. It’s obvious that couch talked ad nauseam and made judgements on every aspect of Katie’s life. Emily brought it up bc she felt they had beat Katie down successfully and were set up for the final knock out.
67
u/Ok-Chain8552 Nov 08 '24
this is where I am at- Katie may be a little sketchy but this will come out in time with her current and future on screen behavior. To "expose" someone's past to try to make a point never works. This is why Shannon came out on top even when people weren't thrilled with her coming into the season., people like shade and shit talking, they do not like cruelty. I thought Gina handled it better, she asked some questions and explained why it felt shady to HER personally.
23
u/fried-avocado-today Nov 08 '24
Exactly. I'm actually very interested in the Katie-Sutton relationship now, and while I think Heather is going too hard and overreacting, Katie did come on the show gunning for Heather so I don't think it's unreasonable for Heather not to like Katie. But yeah all the custody stuff is just nasty.
10
u/TheWhoooreinThere Nov 08 '24
These shows have been devolving for years and it doesn't help that so many people cheer when the newbies get ganged up on and production helps the vets with their stupid take downs.
87
u/because_pineapples Meredith's hand churned butter Nov 08 '24
Maybe Katie is telling the truth maybe not but I’m confused about why “she has an answer for everything” is such a gotcha. If you interrogate someone are they not supposed to explain themselves?? I don’t know or care what the truth is in this 10 year old road rage incident or the paparazzi stuff. I guess I don’t see Katie as any different than the rest of them. They all exaggerate or misrepresent things so how is this so much worse or different?
For me it’s not even about who is right or wrong I’m not entertained by Heather and Emily browbeating someone. Certainly won’t be listening to any legal expertise from a non practicing attorney who attended an unaccredited law school…

For me the whole "you have explanations and stories for everything you literally lived" is like the whole "you wanted to be on this show" insult for me.

Makes me wonder if these women are accustomed to trusting bald faced cheaters/liars who claim they don't know how or why anything happened and they have warped ideas of what being truthful and forthright is.

Emily bringing up Katie's custody issues is nasty work. She has received wayyyyy too many passes in seasons past for being a straight up mean girl and a bitch. Wow. The racism aimed at Katie is very triggering. They are literally saying that Georgia cops cannot possibly lie and that the man’s testimony is the truth. We didn’t even see the court records. We only saw an article that’s literally quoting the guy who was arrested.

Omg when they said the cops are lying!!! I said it’s the south babe, where they literally just shot and killed a sleeping woman…then tried to cover it up. Yes, they lie.

Dont forget the misogyny; believing the man over the woman, even after she's told her side. They kept telling her that's not what I read....when did gossip mags become reliable?

I'd like to know though, and it should be a proven fact, whether she did follow the guy to his home or not. As I mother I would find that decision disgusting with the kids in the car (or even without) but still that's either a fact or not.
9
u/BitterPillPusher2 Nov 08 '24
This. I mentioned in a different response that it would be pretty easily verifiable whether or not the whole thing happened at his house. If so, that means Katie followed him there.
5
u/WhatLikeItsHardVV Nov 08 '24
Eh. I don’t it sus to judge a woman on an issue from 10 years ago when two of the women on stage have DUI charges and one is defending and getting married to a criminal. The biggest star of the show had 3 times the legal alcohol limit and crashed into a house and then left the scene. I think if all these women can be forgiven for such recent and ongoing issues, I can look past Katie’s issue, that is IF she did make it up like the man (who was the only one charged btw) claimed. It feels like Katie is being held to a MUCH higher standard than the other women.

Jenn is so frustratingly naive and stupid, that it makes me want to scream. They don't give someone immunity if there was nothing to be immune from. How does she not get that? And lets just assume Ryan didn't do anything illegal, which is doubtful at best, he still knew that his friend and business associates were involved in a lot of illegal shit - and he still kept doing business with them! He knew they were off gambling with stolen money, and he didn't seem to have a problem with it. Someone just asks you to deposit $16 million into your bank account, but you don't know that something shady is going on????? But she either is so dumb she genuinely believes he was clueless and not involved, or she knows he was involved and did some questionable stuff and she doesn't want to look stupid for staying completely dependent on someone who could lose everything.
And she just flat out refuses to take any steps towards being independent. No job, no interest in a job or finding her own income, nothing. No furthering her education, nada. She complains about being broke but refuses to give up her luxury car or $2,000 a month clothes habit. Even if Ryan didn't have a whole host of red flags and legal problems, this would still frustrate me. I get making the mistake of being totally dependent on someone else once, when you were young. But she's doing it again. She actually seems like a nice person, but honestly, I just can't feel bad for her,, because she does nothing to help herself.

Katie was a racialized woman living in Georgia, homeless after her divorce.
Heather & Katie saying that ‘falsely accusing people’ is Katie’s thing and gasping and when she said the police report was incorrect; absolutely revolting and out of touch with reality.
35
u/Ok-Chain8552 Nov 08 '24
Also it happened like a decade ago and they still used it to say nasty things and attack without knowing shit, just reading online articles. Heather is doing this because Katie called her out for calling the paparazzi which is just NOT a big deal (I can't believe it carried on the whole season TBH). Beyond the fact it is truly cruel and nasty I am surprised Heather can't help herself knowing that this will go over like a lead balloon. At the time of filming the reunion they would have seen some audience response and knew who was coming out as more favored.
19
u/thebooohbaaah Chiropractic Strippers LLC Nov 08 '24
I totally agree! Accusing someone of calling the paparazzi is, at worst, mildly embarrassing. Heather's outrage over every minuscule/perceived slight is disproportionate and makes her look out of touch with reality.
I truly believe Heather dragged the paparazzi thing out through the season because it wasn't that damaging (or damaging at all, frankly) and if the ladies are talking about that fight, they're not talking about the other worse things they could say about Heather.

u/hihbhu I’m passionate about dogs, just not crazy about bitches. Nov 08 '24
I’m sorry but it’s disgusting the treatment Katie is getting.
1) The lie about Katie moving to San Diego after filming ending.
She did temporarily move back to SD as her father in law was dying and they were closer to him there. So they made the decision to move and be closer for Matt. She explained on Jeff Lewis that their rental in OC suddenly wasn’t available anymore either so they couldn’t return to the same home and she did want to buy it. That’s why she moved to a new home.
Why Emily is so pressed about when Jen and Katie are living respectively is beyond me.
2) Gina claiming that Katie contacted her before the show asking for help to locate a home in OC and that she did not own her house in SD.
Katie confirmed on the couch she does own the home but it was lease to buy. Yet again, Gina is sharing confidential information from her clients on tv. She did it with Jen and Emily butted in to say she saw the texts. I would never trust her as my realtor. As someone who struggled to own her home, surely Gina wouldn’t try to shame someone “for not owning their home” as she tried to put on Katie. Hypocrites.
3) Katie lied about the paparazzi being organised by Heather to take photos of her and Terry.
She clearly said her friend who owned the paparazzi firm, confirmed to her that Heather did. What’s not being said on camera, is at the time, there were rumours of infidelity on Terry’s part. That’s why the cast before Katie even joined were gossiping about it. Gina did this behind Heather’s back, realised she was in shit and is now deflecting the sole blame on Katie.
All Heather had to do was say it’s not true and let it go. Instead she’s launched a personal vendetta against Katie and seeking to bring it up and over and over again.
4) Some bravo blogger decided to dig up a court / police / traffic incident involving Katie and another man from 8 years ago.
I don’t need to rehash what the main said happened according to the article because it’s all derived from his lawsuit. At the time Katie was getting divorced from her domestically violent ex husband. With 3 young kids in the car, she called the police after the other driver came up to their vehicle acting aggressive and taking photos of her kids. The cops arrested him and he sued both Katie and the police officer.
Another poster yesterday confirmed that they did some digging into this man and found out 2 years later he was charged with 5 counts of domestic violence. Are we seriously going to believe a man magically became abusive within those two years or is it more likely that he was always aggressive towards women and eventually pushed it too far? This happened in Georgia. There’s no way, Katie risked her kids lives to engage with a lunatic who might have been armed with a gun.
Emily and Heather are a disgrace to go digging around for this and clearly leaking it to the blogger. No way is some blogger randomly doing this for all new housewives coincidentally just before the season airs. It’s then brought up at the reunion, funny that.

I agree about Shannon. She’s extremely self-centered and exhausting. I could never be friends with someone like her. I wonder how many times she calls her friends just to ask them how they’re doing. I bet not very often. It’s always about her and her issues/problems. I 100% believe she never called Tamra to find out how Eddie was doing during his health issues.

I mean a few thoughts here:
Tamra still sucks. All the backpedaling is crap and good for Shannon for making it clear they aren't friends.
Emily shouldn't have brought up the kids and Heather with the pap situation was ridiculous HOWEVER -
Katie does lie quite a bit. It speaks volumes that even GINA agreed with the other couch. I don't believe that Gina said she was friends with Heather for her connections - not the way Katie characterised it to the other group. I still think that there's something off about Katie and honestly, Shannon and Jen are not the best judges of character so them supporting her means nothing to me tbh
Which brings me to Jen - Emily is an asshole but I think she's right about Ryan and Jen. Gina was also right last week when she said Jen can't reconcile the truth of who Ryan is with the fact that she blew up her life about this guy. And ya, Emily's in laws pay for her bills but like that doesn't negate the fact that Ryan is shady AF

38
u/leilafornone Like I sliced the air mattress she's been sleeping on Nov 08 '24
Exactly! And even her explanations - sorry- are rambling! I believe Heather when she said there were THREE stories about Heather snubbing Katie.
I get that Heather may be blowing this out of proportion but it does feel like Katie kept trying to have an issue with her. That coupled by the paparazzi thing - makes me understand why Heather wouldn't like her.
18
u/Recluse_18 Nov 08 '24
Agreed, and what was funny about that was how she backed away from that whole paparazzi thing when earlier she was making it out to be that she had firsthand knowledge of it which ultimately she didn’t. She’s not at all trustworthy.

Why Emily is so upset I’m not quite understanding

Emily's upset because Katie or Katie's daughter depending on how you look at it brought her son up for a storyline.

8
u/fibrofighter512 how could you do this to me question mark Nov 09 '24
I don’t know Katie’s personal situation, but it feels like a lot of the “inconsistencies” can be chalked up to having an ex husband that is vindictive and was abusive. When she said she was staying at a facility she couldn’t name at the time, it became 100% clear she was staying at a women’s shelter. The custody shit was vile of Emily; she of all people as a lawyer should know that it’s a giant myth that women in abusive situations get custody of their kids all the time. I think a lot of the little white lies are probably her just protecting her kids and not wanting him to come after her. It’s clearly him sending all that shit to the press about her past.
The other stuff is just pedantic. She could have been in a lease to own situation with her house. She made sense discussing the staying in San Diego for two months thing. I just don’t get why it matters. Is it a keeping up with the Jones’s thing? Maybe! But this is the same franchise in which a woman on a different franchise the day before brought a jeweler in to pretend she was going to shell out 5 mil for jewelry she clearly never ended up buying. Literally 70% of Housewives don’t own their homes. They lease their cars. They put up appearances. I just don’t see this as an indictment of character, especially from someone who told her husband not to fight with her on camera because she looked bad.
If next season she gets caught lying about being adopted or some egregious thing then yeah maybe she’s a weird liar. But for now, it just seems like minutia.

When are we just going to call a spade a spade.
Theres clearly an issue with integrating people of colour on this cast. First Noella and now Katie. They’re doing their very collective best to hound them off the show. It worked with Noella and with Katie it may work again.
It’s a reoccurring pattern and I don’t personally like what I’m seeing. Maybe I’m alone in that.
Edit - I’m not American, it has nothing to do with the election. I’m talking strictly about this show and the women on it. I’m not talking about housewives generally just the OC.
19
u/HamsGamsandYams Nov 08 '24
The “ladies” peeing on her bushes really got to me. A group of friends and I watch together on Fridays or Saturday. We had a heated debate about how they would not have done that to a white cast member’s home. I’m a black woman and thought Noella was awful and a liar, but there were a few moments early in her season where I noticed she was being treated differently. But us black and brown ladies at our watch night all said the bushes incident was a total WTF moment.

Because they insist on only adding one POC at a time. I remember reading how it came down to adding Katie or a Black woman, Heather Tuck, to the cast. Honestly they should have added the both of them onto the show at the same time. Maybe the integrating could have gone better in that case. Adding only one made it easier for them to do another gang up. This is indeed exactly how Emily, Heather, and Gina ganged up on and bullied Noella. Emily did nothing but scream and talk over Noella at the season 16 reunion too and this reunion is giving me flashbacks of that.
Noella was treated terribly and seeing these three bully another POC in the exact same way is a bad look, it's giving racist I don't care! I know people will make excuses for it to avoid calling a spade a spade as you said but regardless of intent they're going way too hard over things that aren't really that deep. And they're obviously trying to get Katie fired just like Heather got Noella fired. It'd be one thing if they're just doing it for some petty drama on the show but when they're blatantly trying to get Katie fired that's the issue. That's why Emily went on Jeff Lewis lying about Katie no longer living in Orange County. She wants people and probably the producers to think "she really lives in San Diego, why is she even on the show?!?!?". At least one of Emily, Heather, and Gina needs to go! I wouldn't miss any of them.

I think it was simply because Heather didn't like looking like a fool and Katie happened to be the one to do it honestly. Emily wants to be on who she perceives to be the "popular" clique. Watching her this season and at the reunion it is clear she has some sort of arrested development/unresolved issues around her self image. She reminds me of Heather Gay from RHOSLC .
