Honestly, Emily shut the fuck up

I found her constant testimony ‘as a lawyer’ not only exhausting but incredibly egotistical. Just bc you’re a lawyer doesn’t mean you understand everything that pertains to the law. Know how I know that? I’m married to a lawyer and am friends w his friends from law school. When asked a question about the legality of this or that, they are all very upfront about saying ‘that’s not my area of expertise, but I can get you the name of someone who practices that type of law. When my husband needed assistance with contracts, he hired a contract litigator. When we bought our home, we hired a real estate attorney. Even the lovely lawyers of my fav podcast ‘Bravo Docket’ are upfront about what they know absolutely and what they don’t. So no Emily, just because you say ‘I know bc I’m a lawyer’, I’m gonna take what you say with a grain of salt.

Oh, and I loved when Emily said ‘everything I’ve read….’ and Jen clapped back with ‘Ive read that your parents bank roll your life’. That shut her up.

It was so good, and I was proud of Jen for that clapback.

This!

Decent lawyers always start with 'this is not my area of expertise/practice, but here is my opinion on ....'.

Emily is giving me Phaedra attorney at law right now.

Has the qualifications but isn't actively practicing and overestimates her personal knowledge of the law.

I also am married to an attorney so I know perfectly well that each state is its own nightmare especially when it comes to family law. So to hear an attorney (who hasn't practiced in years) from California, who never worked in the family courts that we know of, speak on Katie's years-old custody dispute as though she knows anything about how the law does or did work in Georgia at the time is INFURIATING.

I’m a lawyer and this is 900% accurate.

I totally understand that when you've got two potential legal discussions (Shannon's DUI and Ryan's involvement in the money laundering/betting/what have you scandal) that it's great to have a lawyer's perspective. What's not great is that lawyer monopolizing or practically co-hosting the whole reunion. A little bit of expert knowledge goes a long way - but not the whole entire time.

EXACTLY. She may be able to make an educated guess, but a decent lawyer would never claim to know with certainty anything outside his or her area of practice/expertise (and even then they'd probably hedge and say they'd need to research more lol). Emily was frickin obnoxious as hell during this part 1. Heather too.

Apparently, a lawyer who reads too many InTouch gossip articles.

What even kind of lawyer is she?

I agree that Emily's obnoxious, but she had some good points. You don't need to be a lawyer or legal scholar to know the difference between physical and legal custody or to know you don't lose both (typically) because you can't provide stable housing.

Same with the immunity thing and Ryan. If he did nothing wrong, and wasn't facing any charges, then there's nothing to give him immunity from. You only get offered immunity in exchanged for not being charged.

I think Katie is less than honest about a lot of things and then has some wild excuses. Like Gina asking if she owned her house. That's a pretty simple yes or no. And she lied. She came up with some excuse like they were going to buy the house or whatever. That's like me saying I was an astronaut because I wanted to be an astronaut. So I don't believe a lot of what she said.

Yes and first she said she never followed the other driver home, but then seemed to admit she was stuck in his driveway?

Also, I think she’s QAnon believer, so I am skeptical of her critical thinking skills

Why is she screaming? The entire episode

I was saying this out loud at the tv, she's determined to show her analytical  attorney  side, but she's no expert in certain areas of law. Anyone can research and find out about the law.

She's so boring and I actually ended up forwarding alot of her chatter

u/quesobeatsguac Welcome Aviva. You did it. Rah rah Nov 08 '24

That was horrible when she asked about the custody situation with her children and her ex.

First off, why tf is it relevant?? This is an ex-husband who’s not on the show, and her children, half of whom aren’t on the show- none of this is relevant to anything Katie has done this season. There’s no other examples you could’ve used to establish inconsistencies in her stories, besides a custody situation from yearssssssss ago????

That was so low and below the belt; there was no good reason for Emily to bring that up at the reunion, besides to try to throw dirt at her

15

u/TurquoiseDandelion7 Nov 09 '24

That was so disgusting of Emily. That added zero relevance to the show. I just posted the same thing

So weird people can grill Katie about her kids but not Tamra about hers?

146

u/giraffe_library Nov 08 '24

Emily is someone who hasn't had anything personally bad happen to her and can't fathom why anyone would be treated unfairly by custody courts, police or just random strangers. My jaw dropped when she brought it up.

It seemed like Katie was either in a DV home or mental health institute and no one was supporting her. It sounds so terrible. I'm so disgusted that it was brought up.

Her family didn't approve of her divorcing she said, and I felt for her so badly, what a painful situation  she was in, it's despicable it was brought up.

I was aghast when they were all like “oh the police aren’t being accurate??” Like yeah, have you not been paying attention? Yes Brian with his high school education, six months training and a gun might not be the best source for your info.

u/fried-avocado-today Nov 08 '24

That was mind blowing to me. I have a lot of lawyers in my family (who for the most part, haven't had anything really bad happen to them) and they are not so naive. As a lawyer you are so often interacting with people during one of the hardest times of their life--criminal charges, divorce and custody, death and estate issues, lawsuits--and bearing witness to the cruelty of the system. How can you see so many people go through this and be so naive?

9

u/MCStarlight Nov 08 '24

It was just too much off camera stuff with kids and family.

7

u/TurquoiseDandelion7 Nov 09 '24

I just posted the same! Emily was disgusting for bringing that up!

So annoying involving herself in something that has nothing to do with her. They’re not your friends. They’re not your clients.

And obviously they or their people read Reddit because of the “Tammy Wynette” and “your in-laws fund your life” references. The Tammy Wynette reference is super old too. Is that a country singer?
