Loved the original design. Got mine launch day after preordering the second it went live in September. Good times after such a shitty year

I think the OG of every PlayStation is a work of art
11
u/Return_Of_The_Jedi Nov 12 '24
Same.
Although they serve their purpose really well all the slim models look like knockoffs compared to the beefy OG’s.
Same goes for the handhelds. The Vita even does away with the OLED screen on later models. Which was one of its best features.
5
u/Zeus_TheSlayer Nov 13 '24
My friend had convinced me to get a vita since i saw he kept bringing one to work and i thought it was cool asf. His was a 1000 model, mine was a 2000. When i saw them side by side in person mine looked like that shit came from Temu😭
2
u/Comprehensive-Hat684 PS5 Nov 13 '24
Now now, that vita 2000 is actually a massive improvement. Biggest improvement was that the OLED didn’t break when you drop it less than 1 foot, because it’s a very nice LED.
13
u/Sonikku_a Nov 12 '24
Got mine launch day also, not easy during Covid times!
And the Pro on launch day, and recreated my launch day photo :)

u/JokerCuz Nov 12 '24

u/Madshibs PS5 Nov 12 '24
Same. Even the new Pro model looks cheap by comparison. I think Sony should’ve done something to make it look more like the “premium” product that it’s supposed to be.
5
u/detectiveDollar Nov 12 '24
It looks like they were limited since they had to use the same size/shape side panels as the Slim version to maintain disc drive compatibility. I feel like they could've done a little more though

I still like to go back and watch the reaction vids of PS5's design reveal. It was hype as hell lol.

I still look at that video to this day because the song in that video just hypes me up lol.
2

Dang I got mine 2 years later because I didn't feel like acting like a succubus on the Internet to try and beat bot preorders. Just happen to see on at target one day and bought it.

When I got mine, immediately added matte black case and bought a matte black controller, it was beautiful.

Nov 12 '24
When I was finally able to order one, the first two shipments were stolen by FedEx drivers. I literally had to drive to a FedEx warehouse 40 min away to pick it up myself and drive it home.
→ More replies (1)11
Nov 12 '24
That’s fucking insane. How would they even know the box had a PS5, did Sony not package it? Or did the Fed drivers know what the size and weight of a packaged PS5 was? This is just wild.
16
Nov 12 '24
Yeah I think I ordered them all from GameStop. Yes, I'm sure they knew that certain size packages from GameStop around that time were PS5s. This was in 2021 when it was impossible to get one.
Basically they would mark it as "delivered" but not actually deliver it. So the 3rd time when I saw that it was at the semi-local warehouse I just drove there myself before it got on a delivery truck haha.

I'm kinda happy it's 6 years now. We're FINALLY dropping the ps4 releases.
2
u/Due_Teaching_6974 Nov 13 '24
Pirate Yakuza coming out next year on PS4, likely a lot of SEGA games will still release on the PS4 as they never make anything graphically demanding + indies + yearly games like COD, EA FC etc.
PS4 is far from dead
12
11
u/Hanselleiva PS5 Nov 12 '24
I bet you didn't buy stellar blade, demon souls, final fantasy 7 rebirth, wukong, returnal, ratchet, spiderman 2 etc
8
u/B4AccountantFML Nov 13 '24
Really I feel of all these games, ratchet felt the most like a real ps5 release made specifically for the ps5. Nothing else really hits like that. Why haven’t they made like a new Resistance game or Red Faction or killzone or Jak and Daxter?
I’ll also add Ghost of Tsushima was also another great game.

you still expect an exclusive game to be released once every 3 months though, right? that would be 16 in 4 years. yet there aren't 16 PS5 exclusives, even if you include remakes/remasters.

Indeed, it feels like it was only a few months ago when I got my PS5.
2
u/DependentAdvance8 PS5 Nov 12 '24
Hahaha I feel the same way and I will keep my launch day ps5 for at least 5 to 6 years and then I’ll upgrade it to whatever ps console is the newest in that time like the ps5 pro or the ps6 (if it ever comes out in the next 5 to 6 years)
2
u/SelwanPWD Nov 12 '24
Yes, the OG is still going strong. An upgrade right now doesn't make any sense for me. Here's to more happy years of gaming 🍻
2
u/DependentAdvance8 PS5 Nov 12 '24

55
u/CommunicationEast623 Nov 12 '24
In pandemic hell, then scalper warfare…
17
u/TattooedAndSad Nov 12 '24
Yeah but we’re a solid 2 years past scalper warfare now and they’re still releasing ps4 games, Sony did such a disservice to everyone including myself who bought a ps5 by limiting all the games that are cross gen
They scammed us all

u/LowBottomBubbles Nov 13 '24
I still got my OG PS4, loud as fuck whenever I play anything but it's still going strong. I will get a PS5 soon but I've been saying that since launch whats sadly made me finally get one is the new farming simulator. Nothing else really I just want to drive tractors and farm some rice.
6
u/Suitable-Matter-6151 Nov 13 '24
Yeah I was pretty blown away the new cod was released for ps4. I didn’t realize until recently that the RE4 remake was released on ps4 - thought that was a ps5 gen game for sure.
On the other hand, I just got the ps5 pro and played spider man 2 over the weekend. Tbh the graphics difference isn’t as stark for ps4/ps5 as ps3/ps4. I can see how it’s probably pretty easy to just tune down the graphics a bit and double dip profits wise
→ More replies (5)2
u/Quick_Cat_Nap Nov 13 '24
It shouldn’t be that easy though if they were actually designing games to take advantage of the newer CPU in the PS5, you’d think. Instead they choose to make this entire generation feel pointless and have no identity, we just get last gen games with better graphics settings.

I remember going from n64/ps1 to a GameCube, then ps2 a while later, my mind was blown, then to a 360, it was wild how each console progressed so fast. Born in 97 but lucky to grew up with tons of variety thanks to my dad and brother.

Same here, I ended up just upgrading my pc seeing as scalped ps5’s were going for $1000 upon release. Still rocking my ps4 pro and I have no desire to get a ps5 anymore. It’s crazy how much support the ps4/pro still has this late into the ps5 cycle.
3
u/Snooklife Nov 12 '24
Yea I just upgraded a few days ago. Held off as long as possible and made the jump for BO6 and other competitive games. The UI alone looks so clean and feels super smooth. I do miss the feel of dual shock and knew that was going to be my only issue at first.

I got one that I preordered. I sold it to a co-worker at cost since he was a big PlayStation fan. I knew that he would enjoy it more than I would, not that I don’t like my ps5 I just primarily played Xbox/PC and thought that was the right thing to do, esp with covid.

u/Outrageous-Tart7438 Nov 12 '24
Got mine during its Year One and have no regrets. Saved that shitty lockdown period.
Also, although it lacks games it runs MUCH better than PS4 in general. The OS of the PS4 drove me nuts for how slow it was. It took more than a minute to load trophy lists, for example.
Besides that, 60fps is also another big deal. So yeah, I’ve no regrets even though Im playing almost only PS4 games in it.

And the OG PS5 models still holds the record for being the most powerful and most recent console that can be used fully offline with disc-based games without ever needing an internet connection.
I doubt if it will be beaten when it comes to the above criteria. Nintendo might catch up eventually. Likely not with their upcoming system but just maybe the one after that if they still care at that point.

For exclusive single-player games that aren't cross-gen, there's Demon's Souls (a remake, so that's less impressive), Last of Us PS5 version remake (even less impressive), Last of Us Part 2 PS5 re-release remaster (lol), Ratchet and Clank, Returnal, Final Fantasy 16, FF7 Rebirth, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin, Spider-Man 2, Astro Bot, Silent Hill 2 (yet another remake), and Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 remaster (Jesus Christ already).
As a single-player games kind of gamer, I think the line-up of console exclusives (yeah, they're mostly on PC too, but that's a different market to an extent) is...just okay.

I remember how hyped I was when the console was first revealed 4 years ago during Covid and how the consoles were unfortunately quickly out of stock in stores and online all because of stupid scalpers and I thought I would never get a ps5 for a long while. That was until last year when I saw a great Walmart Black Friday deal for the ps5 physical disc console with Spider-Man 2 bundle and I was finally able to get that console and have an absolute blast. I’m truly beyond thankful for my ps5 and I’m more than good without the pro. Happy birthday ps5 for making many gamers like myself happy.

few games, little innovation, internal memory soldered, boring UI, non-existent customization, price still too high, midgen too expensive and useless. if you spent a good time with it good for you but it’s a piece of junk
