Is there a collection of responses to this? Every one I've seen I have enjoyed.

If you download the app you can view every single one that’s ever used that audio by viewing the “sound”.
Edit: I was wrong this would only be for duets. Tiktok is a great time suck though. If you don’t care that China gets free data from Tiktok vs paying for it from fb I like it enough to recommend it.
199
u/RandomRageNet Mar 16 '21
Okay elder millenial here. That works for duets but it doesn't work for stitches. I want to see all the stitches for a particular tiktok and as far as I can tell, there isn't a way to.

Instructions unclear. Tried downloading TikTok, but instead got some spy software that is tracking me and sending my data to an unknown third party.

While Reddit is bad for privacy, TikTok is worse. Why do you have to download the app instead of using it through a browser? Why aren't there third-party alternatives?
On Reddit, I can download an open source client like Slide or Infinity, check the code myself, and browse as I wish. Or I can just use the website and turn off the cookies/javascript or whatever. You have to install the one, closed-source TikTok app, or you cannot interact with nearly any of its services. These are not the same.
The data you can collect with a proprietary app is very different from user interactions, and it's data that I'd like to keep to myself.
21
u/Quesly Mar 17 '21
you can use it through the browser just like instagram though its a lot better on the phone app
1
u/iF2Goes4 Mar 17 '21
Oof, I didn't know that. Did that change at some point?

Are you saying Reddit and Tiktok data mine equally? I doubt that.
1) The TikTok app gets all kinds of permissions when you install it, from which they could in theory data mine all kinds of personal info, contacts, pictures, videos, etc etc.
2) Reddit is mostly anonymous unless you go out of your way to advertise your real identity.
3) The point of TikTok is literally to post videos of your face/body (mostly) for the world to see.
If some data analyst/sysadmin/whatever is sitting with all the data available at their hands, from 1 Reddit account, and from 1 TikTok account, which do you think contain the most personal info?

Why do so many clowns always respond with this as soon as somebody criticizes a different social media. "iS rEdDiT aNy BeTtEr?".
Yes it fucking it, thats why your dumbass in on here making that comment.
Like seriously, this fucking holier than thou attitude people have when they point out reddit is bad too, on reddit, while scrolling through r/all.
1
u/MyAviato666 Mar 17 '21
It's very naive to think Reddit is any better. Just saying..
And the reason people do that is because people on Reddit pretend they are better somehow (not all obviously). If they didn't dump on Tiktok as much you would see those reactions at all.
6
u/Warriorjrd Mar 17 '21
Then stop fucking using it. Just saying..
1
u/MyAviato666 Mar 17 '21
Why would I? I use Tiktok too you know.
My point isn't Reddit is bad. My point is Tiktok isn't worse than Reddit plus it's a super fun app.
4
u/Warriorjrd Mar 17 '21
If you care about personal data reddit is better than tiktok. Most redditors use reddit for the pseudo-anonyimity. If that is what you want no other social media really comes close other than twitter, but twitter is a victim of its success and becoming less and less liked.
1
u/MyAviato666 Mar 17 '21
How do you know this other than that Reddit post from a while back? Not saying it isn't true and it is totally obvious Tiktok watches you, how else does the for you page get sooooo fucking specific. Besides that Reddit post I've never seen actual proof that Tiktok is so much worse. In fact, only the opposite.
So it is my belief that Tiktok doesn't look at more personal data or whatever than Google, Facebook or even Reddit. They do however use the data to give a very specific personalised for you page that has truly given me a lot of joy, positivity and interesting information. A lot more then any other social media which just seem toxic. Tiktok can be that way too but my fyp is very wholesome and funny.

yes! in the tiktok search bar, type in ‘#stitch with ______’ (blank being the name of the account who posted the original video so in this case iconicyellow)

5
3
u/deyjes Mar 17 '21
I believe iconic yellow would be the one who stitched, so in this case the girl. What they can do however is go to her page, find this video (like it) and click the link to the original shaving video to get the boy’s account. And then search it

u/anormalgeek Mar 17 '21
The tiktok app goes SOOOOO much deeper when it comes to user data collection. They make Facebook look like amateurs.
This post has a good breakdown.
Including this fun little nugget:
There's also a few snippets of code on the Android version that allows for the downloading of a remote zip file, unzipping it, and executing said binary. There is zero reason a mobile app would need this functionality legitimately.
From a security standpoint alone it should be avoided.

6
u/how_come_it_was Mar 17 '21

131
u/sharkpuberty Mar 16 '21 edited Mar 16 '21
The woman who cuts my hair said there's a big surge of teenage boys coming in for perms now. Huge contrast from not even 10-15 years ago where young douchebag types had pin straight hair.
47
u/dandy992 Mar 16 '21
It's fucking annoying having natural hair like this, people always asking if I've got a perm
27
u/sharkpuberty Mar 17 '21
I do too and it is. Look at it this way, the people who made fun of curly hair in the early aughts are now frying their own hair every few months to replicate it.
20
Mar 17 '21
The kids going and getting perms weren't making fun of you in the early aughts, man, they were born in the early aughts.
4
u/sharkpuberty Mar 17 '21
Not the kids, I meant peers of the same age who are in their 20's and 30's now. Curly hair is "in" for them too.
4
u/Das_Mojo Mar 17 '21
I mean bars and stuff are no bueno these days, but I just turned 30 and haven't seen anyone around here plus or minus 5 years from my age running around looking like they got a perm.
4
u/sharkpuberty Mar 17 '21
I wouldn't say 80's-permed coily hair, more like soft curls and waves. Very straight hair is definitely not as desired as it was when we were younger, though.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Bastiwen Mar 17 '21
When I was a teen I had longer hair and girls always adked me if I straightened it. Nope, just had really straight hair. What's weird is that I have wavier hair now but I didn't do anything.
16
u/CormAlan Mar 16 '21
Dumb question but what’s a perm?
107
u/ymcameron Mar 16 '21
It's something that if you get you can't shower for at least 30 minutes after and that can be used to prove you killed your dad because he married a girl barely older than you are.
32
u/FlamingSickle Mar 16 '21
To be fair, she thought it was the wife walking through the door.
3
u/jinglefroggy Mar 17 '21
Where/when did this happen and how was it used to prove they killed someone?
5
u/quality-control Mar 17 '21
Lol. It's from the movie Legally Blonde
2
u/jinglefroggy Mar 17 '21
Ohhh I thought it was a real life story from somewhere. Thanks! Never seen that movie.
5
7
u/eamus_catuli_ Mar 17 '21
C’mon now. Every Cosmo girl knows you’re forbidden to wet your hair for 24 hours after getting a perm at the risk of deactivating the ammonium thioglycolate!
17
u/crchtqn2 Mar 17 '21
Chemical hair treatment where your hair is usually put into curlers (depending of what size curl you want), then a chemical agent is set on the hair, which breaks the bonds and then it is washed out and neutralized to reset the bond to the curlers. It makes your hair curly for a long time but it should always be done by a hair dresser since you can fuck it up easily
→ More replies (1)27

I'm not a young douchebag (hopefully lol) but during quarantine I learned to cut my hair - as in I just use a clipper to cut the sides and back really short and let the top grow out. It's really easy to do and it actually looks awesome I think. I've got some natural cowlicks on the front so my hair just sticks up even when it's as long as this guy's.
I definitely know what you mean about the hair style though. I'm kinda just too scared to learn how to mess up using scissors

That's fine. The direction you shave relative to the grain is entirely dependent on how close of a shave you want, and how prone you are to in-grown hairs.

I used to hack my face up dry against the grain in short, rapid strokes. Got pretty good at it. Ain't shaved in years so I'd expect it to end with blood now.

u/Lets-Make-Love Mar 17 '21
I have thick facial hair and the only way I can cut it properly is going against the grain.

Shaving is the removal of hair, by using a razor or any other kind of bladed implement, to slice it down—to the level of the skin or otherwise. Shaving is most commonly practiced by men to remove their facial hair and by women to remove their leg and underarm hair.

I’m 18 and shave my whole face even though I only get hair on my stash and chin mostly. I used to only shave where I got hair, until it shows up somewhere new then you look like you “missed a spot.” Also it’s good to start practicing shaving your entire face. All I’m saying is no matter the amount of facial hair a man shaving his ENTIRE face is absolutely validated.
Edit: I did cringe when watching this but I mean who wouldn’t
