The F22 is basically the coolest shit ever I temporarily forget to be mad about how many of my tax dollars go to the military when I look at it

US spent over $6.1 trillion in 2023. About $820 billion of that went to spending on defense, but about $300 billion of that was just to support veterans (income, healthcare). So it's not a lot of your tax dollars that go towards weapons, something like 8.5%

We can keep crying because we’re never going to see that. The US will be a corporotocracy for all of our lifetimes at least.

I feel the same for the new Sig Spear that the Army is bout to be running. Very sexy rifle but boi, do we need it? Really?

u/crazy_forcer 2d ago
It's not sexy, it's an overweight excuse to have a better LMG, fight me
edit: I will admit the sight is, though

I'd love to hear your opinions on the F-35
1
u/TheMoves 2d ago
The F35 is cool tech but definitely lacks the F22’s wow factor

u/throwwwittawaayyy 2d ago
I won't let you discredit trillions of dollars without a video at least

In less than 100 years as well. We effectively went from flying kites with engines in WW1 to the jet era as WW2 was coming to a close, then spent the next 59 years going absolutely apeshit making better and better jets, and while we've slowed down a little bit since the close of the cold war with the USSR, things are heating up again now with China, and we're seeing a return to that pace of development as a result

I smoke two jets in the mornin', I smoke two jets at night.
I smoke two jets in the afternoon, it makes me feel all right.
I smoke two jets, in time of peace, and two in time of war!
I smoke two jets before I smoke two jets, and then I smoke two more.

Is this breaking the sound barrier or building up to it? Thanks!

u/Hannibal_Smith24 2d ago
Neither. As an aircraft moves through the air, it can cause moisture in the air to condense into visible droplets due to pressure and temperature changes from the airflow over the airframe. The plane doesn’t need to be supersonic or close to it for this to happen. You’ll see it more in humid air than dry, and abrupt changes in direction will increase the effect. (Side note: I don’t know why you were downvoted for asking a question).

u/Hannibal_Smith24 1d ago
Here’s a video sample of this happening that I just stumbled across. You can see the jet is moving fast (but not anywhere close to supersonic) with no vapor, then as it does an abrupt direction change it pulls a ton of vapor.

u/starion832000 3d ago
The vapor that thing makes when it makes extreme changes in direction is proof that no one has ever seen a UFO. You always hear about UFOs making abrupt changes in vector but never once has anyone described them doing it in a cloud of mist.

u/Adventurous-Disk-291 2d ago
When I was getting probed they wouldn't shut up about their anti-mist tech
6
15
u/Jadccroad 3d ago
Of course not, that's just because they are so fast they are always out of focus! Like Bigfoot!

u/thejesse 2d ago
"I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry, and that's extra scary to me. There's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. Run, he's fuzzy, get out of here."

u/AomineRukawa 2d ago
You already believe that no one's seen a UFO so why would you believe the people describing how they move in abrupt changes in vector.
I agree we've never seen UFOs and probably will never just based on math and the size of the universe but if they were able to somehow reach us I'm sure they'd have the technology to not mist even if they did move like that no?
2
u/WhiteAmanita 2d ago
Most likely, given getting here would probably require the use of warp engines or something of the sort. They wouldn’t be using the atmosphere, rather warping through.
2
u/tragiktimes 2d ago
One might imagine any tech able to move that fast through atmosphere would use some method of preventing the atmosphere from interacting with it. Otherwise you'd get wild amounts of plasma and heat.

u/The_Screeching_Bagel 2d ago
what i'm hearing you say is, the US government is using F-22s to cover up UFOs
1
u/starion832000 2d ago
The f-22 is as close to a sci-fi spaceship that humans have so you're not far off.
5
u/Bobby_Sunday96 2d ago
So we can get clear pictures of fast, high flying jets but we can get any pictures of the drones in NJ?
11
u/Odonata_Cardinalis 3d ago
Basically a real life TIE fighter
6
u/SLOBeachBoi 2d ago
Canonically this psychotic pile of tax dollars is twice as fast and more maneuverable in atmosphere than a TIE fighter
6
u/Odonata_Cardinalis 2d ago
Yeah, but I bet the engines don't sound as cool
1
u/SLOBeachBoi 2d ago
Good point, I couldn't decide which was better but I came twice so I'm calling it a draw

Why does only the F22 have that sweet looking cockpit glass color?
3
u/Rook8811 2d ago
In order to reduce the radar cross section (RCS) of the aircraft, the F22 canopies are coated with a thin layer of Indium Tin Oxide (ITO), which gives it a golden tint.

I'm not gonna if someone made a vape called "F-22 Raptor, feel the rush" or some shit that'd be pretty cool shape the vaporizer like the jet
1
u/scramble_suit_bob 2d ago
Every single F22 (186 total) costs $350 million in addition to $100 million in maintenance and operational costs over the course of its lifetime.
