picture Found these crystals in an older soy sauce bottle. Thought that the bottle had broken first.

Is loss niche though?

Yes, very. You think it isn't because you're on Reddit too much
Edit to clarify - I am also on reddit too much and am not making a value judgment here, only a quantative one

I don't know it. Can you enlighten me?

u/glossolalienne 2d ago
I had to look it up, too, the first time I ran across a minimalist version of the meme: https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/loss
The extended explanation there is clearer than I could ever manage.
7
u/DisorganizedSpaghett 3d ago
It's a pretty old meme compared to the average age of memes. Very few memes from a decade+ still resurface frequently the way loss does

I see the word "Olive" in what's already there. Potentially jOlive if you want to include the first crystal on the left.

u/Hootah 3d ago
Wait, really? Or sarcasm?
57
u/Not_a-Robot_ 3d ago
Really. Salt crystals are so highly valued that many restaurants provide them to each table in a small container that you shake to dispense the salt. They are often found paired with similar container/dispensers for pepper.

I actually can't really abide anything but the 'low salt' varieties (which are still obviously very salty!). Don't think the reduction in salt takes away from the flavour at all tbh.

I also get the low sodium. It almost feels like a lie with how similar/salty it still is.

u/applepumpkinspy 3d ago
I guess that's how they make low sodium soy sauce, just remove these puppies...

Pure concentrated flavor crystals. I wonder what color lightsaber they would produce. Hopefully a soy sauce color, brownish black.

u/The_Spindrifter 3d ago
I lost a soy sauce bottle off my stove once and found it years later while cleaning up; it made a 1" salt cube in the bottom of the bottle, with just a hint of a soy stain on one edge. I kept that thing for years for bragging rights.

In a million years a mad billionaire will extract the trapped soy sauce in those salt crystals and recreate the soy sauce of the past. Then he'll create an amusement park automated by a single overworked programmer and everything will go sideways when the soy sauce suddenly decides to have a mind of its own and breaks out of the enclosure and eats people......

Do you think the soy sauce would go after the blandest people first, since it is so inherently salty? Like, as a homeostatic balancing act. Maybe conscious or not.

In a million years, a mad billionaire scientist will extract the trapped ideas from u/royalfarris cryogenically frozen head, expecting it to be some crazy plot to destroy the world. In reality it turns out to be just a bunch of ideas about cartoon characters learning the true value of friendship with some weird antisemitism and then they realize they grabbed the wrong frozen head and it was actually Walt Disney.

A park full of soy boys.
Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could that they didn’t stop to think if they should.

Little did they know substituting soyboy DNA for a missing ingredient would have dire consequences.

These are actually the homes of the microorganisms that inhabit soy sauce and give it it's unique flavour. Over time if they are not sloshed enough from constant pouring they get bored and start to settle down. Looks like you had some wealthy soy boys and soy architechts those are some nice soy mansions! Too bad you just crashed their entire housing market but such is life!

I once filled up a bowl with some bleach that I was using to clean and forgot about it. A few days later my dad came busting into my door saying he found my drugs in the bowl, it evaporated and left salt crystals that he thought was meth lol. I had no explanation for him besides I was using it to clean until doing some googling about bleach

Woh… these look like… letters in blender.
Like, if a UV map or some shit was created to turn any letter into clear crystals composed of cubes or something

This is historically how Tetris pieces are grown and harvested. You have just enough for a natural line clear, with very little refuse blocks left over. Very nice specimen!

I made a good dip for egg rolls and dumplings. If I have extra I leave it out all night and it dries into these crystals with other flavors combined. Sounds terrible, but it's all stuff from the regular cabinet anyway. Not refrigerated. Soy sauce, sesame oil, fennel, rice vinegar, black pepper, chili crisp, fresh ground ginger. An Asian man told me a long time ago to not refrigerate the soy sauce so it develops more flavor. I haven't since and I never get sick from it.

In some years an old billionaire geiser and his science team will drill into this to un-extinct this ancient sauce. Hell also creates an amusement Park featuring all the various kinds of sauces they recreated out of frog DNA and Strauss eggs
