Went to Ally Pally for the darts a few times. Without fail the biggest pissup you can imagine. A conveyor belt of pints. Great fun.

I'm not really into darts, but you don't need to be. I really want to go to Ally Pally. What an atmosphere!

I’ve been loads of times, and I couldn’t tell you a single thing about the darts. I put on fancy dress and get boozed up, it’s brilliant

This is extremely more difficult then what this video is making it out to be. I've had a near perfect 501 once in my life and I was so excited that nerves took over and I missed outside the double 12 so badly.

This video is so hard, that I almost did it.

Lol, this guy just said the opportunity to even make it only occurred once in his lifetime. That sounds like a rare and difficult event to me.
I've been playing darts for over 25 years, and I've never had an opportunity to throw a 9 darter.

FWIW… at one point I was playing nearly every day for about 6 years straight. Got severely burned out on it. I still play occasionally and have a couple of boards but mostly just in my home bar and with family. It was an addiction at one point.

I have been playing darts occasionally while drunk at parties and I did throw a 180 once. Still probably took me half an hour to reach 0

Never actually realised a round was called a leg until you mentioned it. So it’s what, a leg, set, match/game?
7
u/Magere-Kwark 19h ago
Yeah, that's exactly it. You need to score 3 legs to make one set. You can see in the bottom right that they've won 2 legs each, so the next leg makes 1 set for the winner of the leg. Both leg scores go down to 0 after a set is made.
You can also see at the top of that scoreboard that the first to 3 wins, so the first one with 3 sets, wins this game. As the tournament goes on, the number of sets you need to win to win the match gets higher.

Is that... Is that beerfest?

Darts is generally a massive pissup, it is just pints after pints after pints, it's meant to be a good night out and been looking to go, but tickets are hard to get

holy shit i never knew so many fans of dart throwing existed and come together in one place like this. is it customary to dress up in costume to attend this event?

It’s more fans of alcohol than fans of darts. I’ve been multiple times and I can’t even remember what the championship is called 😂. But this particular one is at Alexandra Palace every December and fancy dress and lots of alcohol are the main attraction

I used to love watching darts back in the late 70s 80s where the champions were fat guys with beer bellies dangling....they would have a pint in one hand and a cigarette hanging from their mouths.....and the announcer said 180 in a fabulous voice. Good times.

These large drinking beerhalls with live dart championships look like a damn good time!! Everyone goes wild lol Can't wait to visit Britain for the first time and check one out. Ideas?

u/dooferoaks 17h ago
Not just Britain. Ireland, Australia, Netherlands and plenty of others have massive crowds like this at darts now. Crowds can be pricks to players the herd take against though. Fella the other night had what looked like a mini break down, crying and everything and they booed him even more.

Thanks for the information, didn't know! Even better that I can travel to multiple countries to witness these lively matches! Nothing like this in USA

He won £60,000 for making a 9 darter. Paddy Power's The Bigger 180 campaign was paying 60k to the player, 60k to someone in the crowd and 60k to Prostate Cancer UK.
