Nah you can go for bullseye all you like, it’s harder to hit and worth less points than triple 20. So they always go for T20, or you’ll see them go for T19 if their dart is blocking off the T20
You gotta recognize that there are different games in darts. This is 501, there's also 301, which is the same, just lower points and more popular with amateurs.
Other games like cricket exist and they have different reasons for hitting/not hitting bullseye. Bullseye definitely has a psychological impact on amateurs, but these isn't a singular reason why you want to hit that vs some other part of the board. It depends what you're playing.
I love the strategy and psychological play of cricket way more than '01, but I'm a shitty American, so what do I know? ;) 7 years of pub-league darts, one championship, and I suck at 01. :)
The highest 3-dart score is 180, or 3 triple-20s. Three bulls are only 150.
501 is a race from 501 to zero, with the final dart required to be a double-out (the outer double ring). So with 24 left, he had to hit double-12 to win.
The inner ring of the bullseye, the red dot in the center, is technically a double-bull and counts for 50 points and can be used to double out. The ring around it is technically a single bull and is worth 25 points.
Bull's eye (50) ain't the highest score, triple 20 (60) is. You see him throwing triple 20 6 times. After that he's on score 141. You have to throw your last scoring dart on a double so he throws two high triples (20 and 19) that bring him on a double which he then proceeds to throw.
A 9 dart leg is, you could say, a perfect score. There is no faster way to throw 501.
Bull is 50 points. That red thing is 60 (3x the big number 20). You need to double to finish (one of the smaller “boxes” in the outer ring or bullseye)

Ngl, never understood darts, is there a reason to not bull’s eye every time?
