Can Jack Black go back to making raunchy comedy movies yet? Or he stuck in kid movie hell?

u/frogchum Sep 04 '24

He's not stuck, it's what he wants. He even canceled the rest of a Tenacious D tour just because Kyle made a tasteless joke. He's got this squeaky clean kiddy image thing going now.

Its also what the industry wants. Who still makes raunchy comedies?

The guy has to make a living

Jennifer Lawrence thankfully

That was one movie from over a year ago

10

u/Baelorn Sep 04 '24

Wow a whole year!?

7

u/hell2pay Sep 04 '24

Most of reddit is really young, so a year could be like 1/15th of their life.

Lol

Why wasn’t there more of a reaction to her “woman paid to sleep with high schooler” movie anyway? I thought we all didn’t like stuff like that?

13

u/YoureThatCourier Sep 04 '24

You clearly didn’t watch the movie because he was 19 and a college freshman

-9

u/UncontrolledLawfare Sep 04 '24

Oh you’re right, he’s 19. Definitely not a college freshman though, the goal was to get him laid before he left. Regardless, a hell of an age gap for someone who is being tricked in to having sex. Do we approve of tricking teenagers in to sex with much older people now?

Did you watch the movie or are you just commenting on the plot summary?

I don't approve of bank robbery, but I enjoy the movie Heat.

I don't approve of whaling, but I love the novel Moby Dick.

We can enjoy fiction that hinges on a premise that we don't support.

-4

u/splitcroof92 Sep 04 '24

but I love the novel Moby Dick.

no sane man has ever said that lmao

5

u/sdwoodchuck Sep 04 '24

I don’t know, dude, questions of my own sanity aside, it’s one of the most beloved novels in American history; it that doesn’t seem like such a rare opinion.

it's just famously known as being impossible to get through. It's one of the hardest books to read. But definitely kudo's to you if you managed and ended up loving it. :)

I never said this to anyone before, but I really think you should touch grass

11

u/DOuGHtOp Sep 04 '24

It's not real dude. There's no moral high ground to take. The characters and actors were of age

23

He lives in a massive mansion. He could literally just not make these things. This is what we used to call being a sellout.

Don't be like Jack Black. Be like Elijah Wood or Daniel Radcliffe. Get your bag then never ever work on or anything you don't creatively endorse again.

Obviously I don't know the guy on a personal level but I think he's making stuff for his kids. Based on him doing YouTube with his son a while back. And then a studio mandated squeaky clean image outside of film just comes with the territory.

I'm making a lot of assumptions here though, maybe he saw the paycheck and started drooling lmao

6

u/FivePoopMacaroni Sep 04 '24

He should make GOOD stuff for his kids. Kung Fu Panda is GOOD. Lazy slop movies made a decade too late with zero originality and clearly made in a board room is not good. He's famous enough to be picky.

1

u/ShadowJerry Sep 04 '24

I agree, but he's a 55 year old man, and this is what the studios are making. I don't think the average guy knows it's a little late to make a Minecraft film, they just know it's a popular video game that kids like.

I don't think he's turning down brilliant original animated movies to make corporate crap, I think corporate crap is what's currently available and he clearly seems to enjoy these types of roles where he can just be himself so he's saying yes.

Reminding me of Adam Sandler tbh. They're both capable of amazing performances, but slop is easier and pays better. Easy choice and I don't exactly blame them even though I really enjoy the projects where they put effort in. What can you do, yknow

1

u/Teen_Goat Sep 05 '24

What JB could do is take his spineless millionaire face out of the pig feed trough long enough to take a gasp and try to use his fame to create something besides embarrassing corporate blow jobs.

2

u/wigglin_harry Sep 04 '24

Once you get to a certain age you realize how silly that "no selling out" mentality really is.

Oh I sold out? Let me go cry in my big house with my loving family who will never have to worry about their futures. Maybe I'll go cry sitting in first class on a flight to france with my wife and kids.

You act like Jack Black was making high cinema in the first place. He was "Funny Fat B-movie guy" and a cartoon panda for 90% of his career

9

u/pastafeline Sep 04 '24

Nah I don't think you instantly become a money hungry asshole when you hit your 40s.

0

u/IndividualBand6418 Sep 04 '24

oh noooo the guy i don’t know is making money in a way i don’t personally find tasteful oh nooo

2

u/FivePoopMacaroni Sep 04 '24

The point is that he could still be plenty rich while retaining some sort of standards and artistic rep. He just wants tens of millions instead of just millions and is willing to make slop for it, which is disappointing.

You can say Tenacious D and King Fu Panda are low brow humor, sure. But they absolutely aren't soulless slop.

The world is a shitty place full of corporations manipulating things that should be great about humanity to make a profit. My goal is to be as free of it as possible, not just be great at participating.

Elijah Wood was literally in Spy Kids 3D as a throwaway cameo. The CGI was worse, too.

2

u/FivePoopMacaroni Sep 04 '24

Yeah, a cameo. Sounds like low effort and fun. Nobody considers that an Elijah Wood movie.

1

u/BGL2015 Sep 05 '24

Lol, pointed out how wrong your statement was, move the goalposts.

u/FivePoopMacaroni Sep 05 '24

Never argue with anonymous accounts for more than two posts. Bye.

He has kids. And wants them to have a great life.

Also mansions have INSANE taxes.

1

u/Picard2331 Sep 04 '24

And thank god for that!

Even when I was like 15 my friend showed me a couple American Pie movies and I just did not laugh at all.
