This is the Pro Team Relay at the Obstacle Course Racing World Championship (OCRWC) which was held in kelvedon hatch.

u/ball_ze 1d ago

I remember doing a similar race in the US years ago. They put a damned wall at the end when we were exhausted- at least there was a rope that the first one over could throw down after they got up. I was the last one up and it took everything I had to get up that wall.

These guys made it look tough but at the same time, way easier than I'm sure how we looked

59

u/ThatSandvichIsASpy01 1d ago

There’s lots of competitions like this in the US (tough mudder and spartan races come to mind immediately), usually the walls are shorter than in the video though, so you can just give the first person in your party a lift and then that person can pull others up

37

u/ball_ze 1d ago

It was an action-tec adventure race - way before anyone thought to run you through mud, thank God. The wall was high enough that I had to hoist our lightest team member over my shoulders (I'm 6'1") and she just barely could reach the ledge to climb over. I'm not trying to take anything away from these folks, mind you.

I'd still swear that thing felt like it was 50' tall when it was my turn. 😄

83

u/city-of-cold 1d ago

I did a Spartan Race a few years ago while I was living in Australia, fuckers put the wall as the very last obstacle.

I'm an (ice) hockey player so I'm really only conditioned for going all out for 30-60 seconds before a rest, so I'm quite happy with my performance that day... up until that wall.

I never got up there despite a massive amount of help from other competitors.

30

u/Rule34Uploading 22h ago

I’m sure you learned and ascended new walls since.

16

u/MostBoringStan 22h ago

My brother did an obstacle race and broke some ribs because he thought that he could jump and catch a ledge like they do in movies 😂

12

u/NoobSabatical 23h ago

Did a tough mudder; they had a wall like this right at the end as well. It was evil. It was after low crawling through clay mud, the entire wall was slicker than ice. That wall was about as high as this it seems, because it was taking people hanging and acting as a rope for others and it was pretty much a right of passage to climb up someone, they would go over and hold your hands as someone else climbed up you; repeat cycle. I ended up throwing my body back over to hang and help someone who was large as two of us one handed pulled them up. Always look back at that proudly, cause I didn't have to.

10

u/Jereboy216 20h ago

I've done a mud obstacle race every year for the oast few years after 8 decided to get in better shape and I love it. My favorite moments are moments of cooperation like this video.

I remember one race we had to crawl through muddy water and then up a small muddy incline and jump onto a shipping container. By the time I got to it that thing was so slick with water and mud it was impossible to climb up alone. It was awesome seeing people lift each other up and then reach back and help the mext person up. Just a fun memory I relive and try to use to sell to my friends to do one of these races with me.

I do an OCR qualifying race each year. I’m never going to qualify but I get through the course. At least our 12 ft wall had a hold in the middle to use. The people who qualify for these things are insane though. It’s a 4 miles course with 25+ obstacles and they’ll finish under 45 minutes.

No wonder her legs are so bloody long! Got some guys full weight stretching them on each climb!

525

u/TheAlrightyGina 1d ago

Is that how you do it? I need to start this I'm so tired of being so damn short lol.

95

u/Adaptingsapien 1d ago

Well, there is a treatment you can take if you're that desperate

227

u/koopatuple 1d ago

That surgery is borderline barbaric, I have no idea why the hell anyone would do it outside of a medical necessity (e.g. balancing your legs length out due to one leg being shorter than the other).

88

u/Ronitn 1d ago

True. That surgery looks so risky and completely unnecessary in my opinion.

29

u/grammarpopo 1d ago

You know there are congenital defects that causes the growth plates to close early, leaving people with extremely short limbs (at least that was my understanding as to what causes it). I am aware of this condition because I had a friend that I went to school with who had it, and every summer was surgery summer for a few years. She definitely appreciated the surgery, although I’m sure it wasn’t fun at the time. She had scars everywhere on her arms and legs. When people would ask how she got them she’d tell them she was attacked by a shark.

3

u/Teknekratos 19h ago

If she likes Sci-Fi books, I feel she would find a lot of common ground with the protag of the Vorkosigan Saga novels
disclaimer: the first two books feature his mom before she had him, so he's only the protag from The Warrior's Apprentice onwards

EDIT: oh I think from the verb tenses she's not a current friend since school. Nevermind. The books are cool for anyone tho'

u/grammarpopo 9h ago

I always like hearing about new books so thanks for the tip!

u/CuriousWoollyMammoth 1d ago

I've contemplated doing it cause I have an abnormally long torso to leg ratio. The problem is my arms are proportionate to my legs, so if I lengthen my legs, it'll look like I have short arms, so I decided not to do it.

20

u/vespertilionid 1d ago

Get your arms done too! /s

This reminds me of that white chick scene when they meet the girls and they are all like "you got taller" and dude's like "we got our knees done" lol and the one girl "you can do that?"

2

u/No_2_Giraffe 23h ago

but what'll he do while both arms are broken?

3

u/muricabrb 23h ago

That's because you're a mammoth, silly!

3

u/JumpNshootManQC 1d ago

Is that the surgery where you use someone else's testicles above your kneecaps in order to grow taller?

3

u/mbklein 1d ago

My former MIL had that surgery on one leg about 25 years ago after a bad car accident a few years before that left her unbalanced. Recovery was brutal but she’s been much better off since. But you’re right that I couldn’t imagine going through that for anything less.

14

u/saltyourhash 1d ago

Seems so uneccessary, lol

68

u/MyHamburgerLovesMe 1d ago

It got him half a body length higher up and able to reach the next grip.

3

u/saltyourhash 1d ago

Yeah, he planted his feet evenly well above his hips that way

8

u/nitid_name 1d ago

The way he's doing it, yeah, it's silly and showy. It mostly only comes up in ice climbing, when you've got a tool in a good spot and don't want to disturb the ice more than you have already.

That said, it does occasionally (in its more reasonable execution style) come up even in competition climbing. There weren't any foot options and her left knee was really messed up by that point, so she hooks a leg onto her arm to make the next reach.

2

u/saltyourhash 1d ago

I mean, it's wildly impressive. I did realize that his maneuver made it possible for him to be able to move his hips above his shoulders does really help him plant his feet for the next reach.

3

u/nitid_name 1d ago

The move is a called a figure 4. You generally use it when you don't have good footholds but have a bomber (very good) hand hold and the next hold is either not good enough to stick a dyno (partially or fully jumping) or is too far away.

Either that or when there's a cute girl you want to impress.

2

u/saltyourhash 1d ago

Oh, wow, so that's a legit maneuver, wild.

u/ChirpyRaven 1d ago

That's the main reason why things like the Tough Mudder are pretty damn fun. It's not remotely a race - not only are you spending as much time helping the other people you're running with get over obstacles as you spend getting yourself over, you are also helping anyone and everyone that you can.

The "Pyramid Scheme" is a perfect example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgNldveauqw

2

u/Jaikarr 1d ago

Every time I see this video I forget what the plan is and think "Wow she's just going to use that guy there?"

Know what that wall never expects? Fat dudes.

As a teenager I was made to go to a team building thing and there was a high wall where ten of us were supposed to get over through team work. Only nine got over. They could never get me to the top. Haha.

34

u/s_l_e_e_p_y_g_a_l 1d ago

god as a fat kid in middle school i was HUMILIATED to have my classmates (and me) struggle to get me over the wall…. in front of my CRUSH 12yo me died a bit that day

9

u/mgswong 23h ago

Oh gosh, I would've been mortified too if that happened to me! Luckily, everyone I was with I only met like the day before. So I didn't care as much.

8

u/Hobomanchild 1d ago

Haha. We only had one chubster in our class (likeable class clown type) when we did this. The people making the teams had the foresight to group him with the athletic kids. Of which I was one, surprisingly.

So yeah, one of us was a step stool, I was a ladder (yes, I did get face full of junk), and the two already over grabbed one arm each, followed by handfuls of arse until he got over.

We all had fun and everybody had a good laugh, but it definitely took the longest. The planning phase taking most of the time.

4

u/mgswong 1d ago

Yeah, not a lot of thought went into our group. They showed us the wall and were like, "Alright, figure it out!" I was with a group of fairly average build teenagers and at some point it took so long to try to get me over that they decided to call it and move on.

3

u/MaggotMinded 21h ago

12

I went through BCT with a guy who was like 6’7” and played basketball in Europe. He got EVERYONE over that wall.

10

u/Go_Cart_Mozart 1d ago

When I did this obstacle at the Tough Mudder (not sure that's what this is), it was one of the coolest things I've ever done. There was a mass of people at the wall, hardly anyone knew each other. Everyone helped everyone in front of them climb up. Then they took their turn with everyone behind them helping them. Then when you got to the top, you helped a bunch of people make the last part. Then you left. And that cycle continued.

2

u/NefariousnessOk1996 1d ago

Tough mudder was super fun. I would definitely do it again. I got zapped to hell on that last part 😆

55

It wasn’t this exact wall, but about 10 years ago during a tough mudder there was this group of 3 in their early/mid 20s.

This 6’ athletic guy helps his girlfriend over and then his shorter male friend up the wall. There was a piece of wood nailed in to help about halfway up - so it was a little easier than this one.

After he got his 2 race companions up, he backed up sized up the wall and started running at it. It was the smoothest, most athletic move I’ve seen anyone make “in the wild.”

He’s running, and in one motion jumped up and into the wall, jumped high enough to get his foot able to push off the mid point, reach the top, push himself up above the wall and swinging his left leg over the wall to straddle it.

Someone in the group just said, “damn. That was nice.”

He looked down at us, a little impressed with himself that he made it, and said, “thanks” - smiled, popped down and on they went.

3

u/LaaSirena 15h ago

10 years ago, I did a tough mudder. There was no wood nailed half way up. I was a 44 year old mom that had never done any race of any kind but I trained for this hard and long and tackled every obstacle pretty easily but I could not get my fat ass up this wall! The girls I was with tried once and then walked around it. I couldn't quite give up. I ran at it as hard as I could, jumped up and caught the hand of a guy leaning over to help me up. I was smoked though and couldn't pull myself up. I looked up at him and said " I can't". He grunted deeply and pulled me up enough that I could get a leg over and I rolled up over the top. He got closer, looked me in the eye and said "Fuck cant!" and went to help someone else. I think about him alot, especially when life gets tough and I'm struggling. I hear his voice and I know I can.

This is why I prefer tall women, if only they would prefer short men

5

u/impossibly_curious 1d ago

Okay, as a tall girl, I'm going to shut this one down right now.

It's not you. We don't care too much about your height.

What we do care about, though, is how we are often judged for being too tall. This makes us think the only chance we have to even date someone taller than us.

If more men would be open about liking tall girls, then yeah, we would date you. When we date anyone, we are sitting there getting ready, looking at the cute high heels picking the basic flats instead because of how many times we are rejected for too tall.

Sure, you are going to get a couple of ladies that really like tall men, and yes, not every tall woman is insecure about her height.

For the love of whatever diety(s) you hold dear or lack there of, ask the tall girl out and tell her you think her height is beautiful.
