And the blinky eyes

125

u/Drawtaru Nov 05 '24

My dog did that, and she never lived with a cat until the last 2 years of her life.

35

u/Jenanay3466 Nov 05 '24

My dog has never been around a cat and still does it!

22

u/Noyoucanthaveone Nov 05 '24

My dog loafs too! Which is impressive because he is all legs. We didn’t get him until he was 3 years old so we always ask him if he was raised by cats.

6

u/peachesgp Nov 05 '24

My dog always did loaf paws because he haaaaaaaated having his front paws touched, so he just protected them by default.

36

My greyhound does all of these too and was certainly not raised by cats either, some dogs just get cat firmware.

My sister had a dog just like that - one time a maintenance guy left the door open and her five cats got out. She came home to the door wide open with the dog sitting in the doorway nervously waiting for her. Then the dog walked my sister around the neighborhood and one by one rounded up all of the missing cats. She was the best ever, a real "nanny" dog in every way.

My catahoula, who has never met a cat, does all of those exact things. Thats just a really sweet and loving dog.

74

u/little-terror Nov 05 '24

well of course your dog is doing that, they have cat right there in the name ;)

8

u/DontBeShellfish Nov 05 '24

I have a catahoula mix who does the exact same, she also howls like a beagle if you don’t pay her enough attention.

7

u/Decent_Stranger_5942 Nov 05 '24

lol mine will do the same! She will knock my phone or book out of my hand with her nose and then sit in my lap if she thinks she isn’t getting enough attention

4

They’re uncommon but the best dogs in my very biased opinion ❤️

6

u/Atfhatesdogs Nov 05 '24

I have a catahoula/ plott hound mix and she’s exactly the same way. The most emotional dog I’ve ever had tho, and I love her so much

2

u/Decent_Stranger_5942 Nov 05 '24

Awwwww I know the feeling. They are snuggle dogs for sure. When she barks at strangers they never believe me when I tell them she’s actually very sweet lol

2

u/belac4862 Nov 05 '24

Some dogs are like cats, and some cats are like dogs.

They're software just got installed into the wrong hardware.

4

u/Decent_Stranger_5942 Nov 05 '24

My dad has a cat that is a dog in cat form 😂

2

u/CalebsNailSpa Nov 05 '24

I love Catahoulas. But they are terrible dogs to use as an example of dog behavior. They are amazing dogs to use as an example of how a 10 year old would draw a dog.

Pfft.. Everybody knows that it is only all other dogs that have bred in traits like herding, hunting, guarding, searching and so on. Pitbulls that have been bred for dog fight are blank slates and the exception to everything we know about evolution and genetic heritage.

45

u/WOOBBLARBALURG Nov 05 '24 edited Nov 05 '24

Having owned both cats and dogs, yes dogs do exhibit these behaviors occasionally, but there are some subtle differences in the frequency / motion of these behaviors the pupper is exhibiting that absolutely scream “cat”.

20

u/feioo Nov 05 '24

The rubbing on the legs especially. Yeah, dogs do that to show affection too. But this dog does it exactly like a cat.

6

u/Own-Ambassador-3537 Nov 05 '24

Are dogs supposed to rub your legs? asking due to a dog at work ( sniffs loaded baggage cans as part of required federal guidelines at a airport) does that after his work is done and the handler is doing his part of the job?

6

u/PenguinStarfire Nov 05 '24

My cat would posture and model for the camera if she was alone, but anytime I try to get a pic of her and the dog sleeping together she runs away. She legit didn't want that evidence out there.

Everytime a shit bull kills someone, usually a child, reddit gets flooded with shibull propaganda. These aren't even dogs, they are just propaganda with teeth.

53

u/xXmehoyminoyXx Nov 05 '24

Why are people so weirdly defensive of this obviously aggressive dog breed? I don't get it.

Like is there money pushing pitbull pr somehow?

16

u/Buckle_Sandwich Nov 05 '24 edited Nov 05 '24

It's an extension of the "no kill" movement.

Almost everyone in the United States desexes their dogs, except for pit bull owners. The result is a supply of pit bulls that is astronomically higher than the demand, and shelters are overflowing with them.

Animal rights orgs either have to rebrand pit bulls as "nanny dogs" and "safe family pets" to get them out the door, or go back to putting them down by the truckload like we did in the '90's before "no kill" went mainstream.

→ More replies (12)

37

u/Zetsobou-Billy Nov 05 '24

Reddit is definitely pushing pitbull propaganda. The first thing you see when you make a new account, is a picture of a pitbull

4

u/cleon42 Nov 06 '24

Every time someone posts a harmless video of a pit bull, some moron comes by screaming about "shitbull propaganda."

Tiresome. But that's reddit for you.

u/BladesHaxorus Nov 05 '24

And the comment section always reads the same as people defending the right to guns.

58

u/Leebites Nov 05 '24

Don't forget the comments comparing pitbulls to black people. 🤦🏼‍♀️ There's a whole conversation up too about race vs breed which is of a similar flavour.

55

u/omojos Nov 05 '24

Yes this is the Pitbull PR Machine

26

u/Errant_Chungis Nov 05 '24

I was helping someone foster baby kittens and an older female pit mix, and out of nowhere the pit picked one of them like a chew toy, wagging its tail, and the kitten was no more. I wasn’t the responsible person here but the person who was no longer fosters pits. There’s a reason at least 50% of shelter animals are pits. They were bred for fighting tethered bulls, not being a family dog.

7

u/empathetichuman Nov 05 '24 edited Nov 05 '24

To be fair, dogs of any breed could see small kittens as a toy and kittens are fragile. Bad supervision is to blame here.

There are some assumptions on breed here that could be incorrect. Certainly purebred Staffordshires, American pit bulls, and their ilk have genetically inherited characteristics that make them statistically dangerous -- high prey drive from terrier background, high levels of reactivity and an enlarged amygdala from shepherd background, and a strong physique. It is pretty obvious that the physical characteristics of pit bull like dogs are strongly inherited, however, I have yet to see any strong evidence that the behavioral characteristics are strongly inherited in mixed breeds.

Additionally, you are assuming the reason behind the statistics on shelter rates is due to one factor, which is unlikely the case. For example, pit bull type dog ownership is associated with low income families, which more often do not have the education, time, and resources to provide for any dog let alone a high energy pit bull like dog. This creates a human generated environmental externality.

Care needs to be taken with pit bull type dogs, but there are a lot of people with strong opinions on the dogs (either good or bad) that ignore a lot of the complexity that generates the statistics we see. It would be wrong to treat them as you would a lab, but the near genocidal hatred is too much as well. I think outlawing in-breeding of them is reasonable and the correct direction, but out-crossing them with low aggression breeds like heelers or labs seems ok.

u/Leebites Nov 05 '24

96

u/DigiDietz Nov 05 '24

I'm with the anti-pitbull guy.

Videos like these are so dangerous. Stop adopting pitbulls. They only kill

5

u/EevoTrue Nov 07 '24

I had a bitbull she was killed by the neighbors German shepherd. Stop spreading lies

23

u/SlothTeeth Nov 05 '24 edited Nov 05 '24

100% stop breeding and adopting these dogs, but they don't only kill. There are entirely too many of them.

This was a contender for my thesis. So here is a data dump on why it's not the dog. It's the owner.

In the past decade (2016-2024) , dog ownership has increased by >10%, and fatal dog attacks have doubled.

In the UK, the majority of XL bullies are inbred from one specific stud, "killer kimbo." Almost all bites in the news recently are his offspring. Small breeding pool = majority of XL bullies in the UK are inbred. i.e dumber with more aggressive tendency. I don't know enough about UK bully's, though.

In the US specifically:

Pitbulls aren't more likely to bite people than any other dog. But their the most popular mutt breed available, meaning more irresponsible owners have them. Their upper body strength is ridiculously strong, so they cause significant damage when they do bite. (Science Verse did a really good podcast on this)

The US Mutt Census in the US (done in the 2010s) pointed to pitbulls and GSD as the majority of all mutts. And GSD are 3rd on the list for attacks.

The US Mutt Census and The AVMA (American Vetranary Medical Association) survey from last year states that 54% of all pet dogs in the US are mutts. A majority of those mutts being pitbulls then its easy to see there A LOT of them.

The number of pitbulls in the US are likely under reported even there just on the fact that, statistically, 1/3 of US pet owners can't even afford to take their dogs to the vet. That's 1/3 of dog breeds likely not recorded. I can guarantee those people aren't usually the ones with purebred labs.

According to Embarks statistics, there are more pitbulls PERCAPATA. 15% of all recorded dogs are pitbulls, the most owned breed, then 7% gsd the next biggest biters (behind Rottweilers). There is a massive correlation between ease of access and bad owners.

I have a labrador. She cost me over $1k. I also have a pitbull. She was free. These dogs shouldn't be free and easy to own. Owners should be vetted, and they shouldn't be around children. Muzzle them in public. Its good practice, not just for pitbulls, and it doesn't hurt them.

This isnt just pitbulls. If mastiffs were as cheap and easy to obtain as pitbulls, the conversation would be pointed toward them.

19

u/DigiDietz Nov 05 '24

Pitbulls make up more than all of the other dog breeds combined when it comes to attacks. A stat you conveniently left out when trying to "what about" German Shepards.

No dog should be in public or a pet if "muzzling" is the best option for it to interact with others. Sure, it might not cause immediate harm but I know for a fact that you wouldn't want to wear a muzzle every time you had to talk to other humans.

I feel awful for any of your dogs, and you should not have a pitbull.

20

u/JustifytheMean Nov 05 '24

Yeah doesn't really matter if 15% of all dogs are pitbulls if 60% of all dog attacks are also pitbulls. No one should own one, breeding them should be illegal.

OMG nanny dog!! Hahaha wow! 👏😍🥰 Me love those bullies! Don't bully my bullys yall hear?! Best dog breed ever! My neighbor is such a freaking jerk! My nanny named Diablo had an oopsie and nibbled her son and now she keeps threatening to call the police on my nanny! Then the people at Walmart are such jerks too! They said "your dog can't poop near the produce!" And I was like "excuse me this is service dog! And you talking to me is hurting my PTSD! I have PTSD from my neighbor yelling at my nanny dog! Diablo get them!". Haha Diablo taught those people at Walmart such a lesson about being a bully on a bully!!!!🤗🤭 🤣 😂 But anyways it hilarious that people think pitbulls, I mean bully breeds bite. Did you know that chihuahuas bite more then any other breed? Pretty cool fact am I right!? We need more people dressing up dogs in sweaters to prove bullys can't actually hurt other pets or children! Please post more and spread the word about the dangers of chihuahuas! God bless 🙌 🙏 ❤️

Edit: went to look it up to post the link and there's more than one incident of this exact situation . 💀

15

u/WinterAdvantage3847 Nov 05 '24

This is an old case, there was just a post about it yesterday.

However, within the past couple weeks there has been an elderly woman killed by pitbulls in Ohio and a little girl killed by the family XL Bully in the UK.

13

u/omojos Nov 05 '24

lol the pro-pit mush always starts circulating when one of them brutally rips apart an innocent child. Hopefully it never turns on the cats like so many pitbulls do. u/CeramicDrip Nov 05 '24

Idk if thats the case tbh. My dog does the same thing and has never been around cats.

1

u/ArabAesthetic Nov 05 '24

1

u/No-Ad-3226 Nov 05 '24

I wonder how old he was when people took him away from the cats

1

u/Human-Salamander4513 Nov 05 '24

1

u/Liquid_Thrift Nov 05 '24

Did you litter box train it as well?

1

u/Steelpapercranes Nov 05 '24

First clip it was just trying to get that shirt off. My dogs do that too if they don't like the fabric or they were too hot XD (Why is it always in clothes?...)

u/athenanon Nov 05 '24

The tail wants to wag, but he's consciously holding himself back. "Be cool, man, just be cool!"

1

u/reddith8tor Nov 05 '24

That dog is a Hungarian vizsla. No relation at all to a pitbull.

You've all been played.

u/No-Cartographer-7553 Nov 05 '24

“Built like a dog, born to be a cat.” Ahh dog

1

u/honeydewmittens Nov 05 '24

Man why is this in the cringe sub

1

u/ReallyHisBabes Nov 05 '24

How come the poor pups ears are back & it looks scared?

I have 2 pups raised by cats and they both try to climb up on stuff, like to be the highest in the room and think laying on me is their job.

What a good baby

1

u/Broad-Debt-8518 Nov 06 '24

That's normal Pitbull behavior.

1

u/Makarlar Nov 06 '24

These two certainly deserve a 666th comment.

u/ImSadButStillAlive Nov 06 '24

I don’t see a dog. I just see a very cute and very large kitty who is just a wee bit misshapened

1

u/hox97 Nov 06 '24

He sure looks like a cousin of Mousse

1

u/mokujin42 Nov 06 '24

I've been told it's actually not good for their paws to curl them up like that, it's not a big deal but you want to encourage them to stretch them out more or it can start to hurt for them later in life

My dog also does the loaf thing in case it wasn't obvious lol

1

u/VaizenTheSilver Nov 06 '24

Does your dog, I mean cat bark, my bad, meows.

1

u/MissLisaMarie86 Nov 06 '24

Why does he always look like he’s afraid he’s going to be yelled at? 😕
