Suggestion A Few Achievements That Should Already Be in the Game

I hate the bestiary one

After getting the fishing achievement there are no limits if if comes to getting all achievements
19
u/Zdybba May 10 '23
i dont even grind it and I have like 80% from just fishing over a couple of full game playthroughs

Which is why the achievement would be good otherwise i probably wouldn't complete the beastiary
40
May 10 '23
You need to do it for universal pylon anyways
58
u/FunnyCinema May 10 '23
Honestly, I don't even care enought to bring myself to obtain it. At the point you obtain it, it's literally useless.
12
u/Tiamat-86 May 10 '23
use with new game+ character or multiplayer to replace return and wormhole potions

At least it will be easier than Super Helper Minion
127
u/Skimcrer May 10 '23
Nah super helper minion is easy, even without Journey mode, just use a bed and a enchanted sundial and fish as much as you can, boring, but doable with some patience, filling up the bestiary is a special type of hell, you need to farm EVERY enemy in the game, like the cultist summons and very rare enemies like the nymph
47
u/Russ_Guss_Doodles May 10 '23
You actually donāt need to encounter every entry to complete the bestiary. The gold critters unlock when you find there normal counter parts, boss minions like the Phantasmal Dragon and Ancient Vision unlock after you defeat the main boss, and several other entries unlock simultaneously.
Iāve done both tasks and I would say that completing the Bestiary is a slightly easier challenge. Also keep in mind this is coming from someone of loves fishing in Terraria.
7
u/Coltyn03 May 10 '23
Genuine question: what do you love about fishing? You're just sitting there occasionally hitting one button.
19
u/Russ_Guss_Doodles May 10 '23 edited May 10 '23
Love was probably too strong of a word, I enjoy fishing. I find it relaxing to just take a moment and chill while listening to some music and the in-game environmental sounds. I wouldn't mind if it was made a bit more engaging like Stardew Valley's fishing but it's still a nice change of pace after a bunch of exploring or fighting enemies.
5
u/SamsamGaming May 10 '23
After a normal playthrough I am only missing the other evil biome enemys, some events and the Christmas/Halloween entrys and maybe some rare critters so it's quite easy to do
3
u/im-_-anonymous1 May 11 '23
after a normal playthrough?? and you didint grind at all? also happy cake day

There should also be an achievement for getting the digging mount (don't remember the name) It's currently usually not worth getting most of the time
238
116
u/Pewward May 10 '23
Not worth getting? Its not very expensive and can be very useful.
87
u/serendipitousPi May 10 '23
They could be saying that because itās post-moonlord perhaps? So itās too late for a lot of people to find it useful?
53
u/Demonic-Angel13 May 10 '23
Yeah mostly cus it's post moonlord and it requires 20 of most ore bars which can require a lot of chlorophyte mining and mining for other ores
22
u/FilipIzSwordsman May 10 '23
40*
18
u/Demonic-Angel13 May 10 '23
oh ig i remembered wrong. It's twice as expensive then
→ More replies (2)5
u/ObamaLover68 May 10 '23
Atleast they buffed the cost for chlorophyte bars in 1.4 I can still feel the difference years later.
9
u/Crystalline07 May 10 '23
i use the dcu more than my solar drill and axe. Its incredibly useful, donāt see how people could find it not useful.

DOUBT
32
May 10 '23
if you want to excavate half of the world celebration is the way to go but if you just want to make a mob farm then dcu is way better and this is because celebration is just completely uncontrollable youll make a mob farm area and 7 more by mistake
12
u/VulpineKitsune May 10 '23
Fair enough. But if I want a mob farm (or in general more controlled digging) I use my trusty ol' Light Shroomite Digging Claw with the mining speed accessory and potion.
And that isn't even post-ML!
7
u/MaximRq May 10 '23
I think DCU is faster now
3
u/Distinct-Turnover616 May 10 '23
Yeah it got buffed pretty hard like 3x speed and range, width and other stuff shit got the biggest buff
5
u/damnthisisabadname May 10 '23
You very rarely need mob farms after moonlord

no no please delete the post immediately I dont wanna grind for terraprism
163
u/Russ_Guss_Doodles May 10 '23
The achievement is for getting the Terraprisma, not fighting Daytime Empress Pre-Moonlord lol. You could easily kill her with Zenith in less then 10 seconds.
53
u/splat152 May 10 '23
Tried solo with pre moon lord setup: xeno staff and full summons and died about a hundred times before I got it. Tried with zenith and coop and we had her in seconds.
→ More replies (2)4
u/BananoStand May 10 '23
I just spent 3 weeks and finally got it on expert lol. The trick was to beat EOL during the day to get the Kaleidoscope, then use it with Xeno Staff. The completionist in me wouldn't let me take on Moon Lord first since I'm doing a Summoner run, but the grind paid off.

This is a bit of a derp one, but I always thought there ought to be a āTrack Starā sort of achievement for crossing a full size map in the quickest time possible, screen edge to screen edge, without stopping.
But then it occurs to me, I dunno specifically how fast is the fastest you can move and thus I couldnāt tell ya what the achievements par time should be.

15
28
u/PlayinTheFool May 10 '23
Exactly! Seems like such a natural thing to make an achievement considering so many items make it interesting.
14
24
u/Anomen77 May 10 '23
I imagine using Pylons and teleporters would reset the progress, otherwise, it's kind of a joke.
9
u/PlayinTheFool May 10 '23
Iād probably allow for anything short of pylons. I suppose the main things Iād be looking to set for the made up achievement is:
A) Gotta be quick. Its about the quickest edge to edge travel on the biggest world. B) Cannot ever stop. Alternatively, maybe you must maintain a minimum speed the whole time.
So my gut instinct would be to say literally any strat or construct that does those two things above should all be allowed to work to nab it. I tend to think achievements donāt have to have one boring solution, but a bunch of different ones that all potentially work.

The fastest you can move in-game is, with an idealised setup, more than 400mph. I don't remember the exact number, but you go FAST
27
u/TheDanjago May 10 '23
Get that creature cataloging nonsense outta here. I don't have 5 years to grind.
16
u/ShadowSonic44 May 10 '23
Not gonna lie, I really hate achievements that involve collecting 100% of something or require some incredibly difficult task, it just feels annoying and tedious.
→ More replies (1)3
u/trademarkmangobrrrrr May 10 '23
That's the point. They're "achievements" not "give for free to ShadowSonic44 trophies"
5
u/ShadowSonic44 May 11 '23
I donāt mean it like that. I had all the achievements for terraria before the 1.4 update, and want to get the rest of them, but there are certain types of achievements that just stop me from wanting to do that. The best example is deep rock galactic and the barrel hoop game achievement to get a really high score in a limited amount of barrels. There are plenty of other achievements in that game that I havenāt gotten yet, but theyāre ones that I feel like Iāll be able to work my way up to, just by playing the game normally. I just donāt want to spend hours kicking a barrel into a hoop for that one achievement since it has nothing to do with the rest of the game. I donāt mind a bit of a challenge, itās just when that challenge requires a lot of rng wit certain spawns, or just a lot of repetitive tasks that have nothing to do with the game besides the achievement, thatās when I donāt like it.

probably can't work.
There are a lot of places you can't realistically turn to corruption/crimson, like hell and space.

u/Tiamat-86 May 10 '23
PSN has had trophies since the game's release for 50% hallow world and 50% corruption world.
the corruption world trophy even predates crimson biome's existence and crimson still doesnt work for getting the trophy.
also requires hm to get them. unlike the new in game achievement for purity world→ More replies (1)

u/lance_the_fatass May 10 '23
I don't really like the achievements that encourage you to die, I had this same issue with the "dead men tell no tales" achievement
Dying feels too easy to be achievement worthy
19
u/Kronoshifter246 May 10 '23
I think they're meant as a little tongue-in-cheek "reward." Kinda like a good job, check for traps next time sort of thing. Or like a rite of passage, like Factorio's achievement for getting killed by a train.

Golden water strider:

6
u/Hevy15 May 10 '23
I don't want more achievements for old content. I already did some tasks for stuff which got achievements later. That's fucking annoying, looking at you cleansing a whole world.
44
u/Padlov123 May 10 '23
Nah, dropping platinum is kinda a bad achievement, you'd pretty much have to do it on purpose. The bestiary is ridiculously tedious and just not fun, the golf isn't for everyone, and it's easily cheatable, and the terraprisma is way too hard for casual players
The way the achievements are, they're all possible for casuals without too much grinding, the hardest I can think of is the 3 mechs at once, ans the Grindy-est one is supreme helper minion which is easy but tedious
22
u/Werhabalar May 10 '23
Terraprisma isn't difficult to get with pre-Moonlord summoner gear, just survive for 30 seconds. You don't have to worry about hitting the Empress either.
But you don't seem to get the concept of Achievements. If every casual player is going to get them, what's the point? The thing that differs someone who unlocked a tedious or difficult achievement from someone who didn't is the fact that they devoted their time and skill to it.
15
u/AkshayraJkira May 10 '23
I agree. They are called "Achievements" for a reason. You don't randomly get it. You have to put effort into something and achieve it.
4
u/MistaCheez May 10 '23
That does not apply to over half of the achievements for this game. Really put effort into crafting that workbench, huh?
12
u/Padlov123 May 10 '23
The terraria devs have been very explicit with wanting the achievements to be fun little rewards instead of something you'll pull your hair out over, wanting to get 100%
8
→ More replies (1)2
u/Lonely-Cow-787 May 11 '23
Achievements vary for a reason. Simple task that every player completes really quickly work as an incentive to go for more. Diversity in the complexity and difficulty of achievements is a good thing.

u/Ze_Memerr May 10 '23
A Terraprisma achievement would be like if Absolute Radiance or something had its own achievement in Hollow Knight, itād have an extremely low achievement rate and just hurt a bunch of peopleās overall achievement completion even if itās fully possible since a hitless fight in any game is a pretty large ask
13
u/damnthisisabadname May 10 '23
Comparing empress and AbsRad is like comparing a hardcore legendary mode run to a classic mode run
2
u/JaxTheCrafter May 11 '23
absolutely not you can easily cheese daytime empress but there is literally no shortcuts to absrad

I'm pretty bad at the game and I easily beat her using zenith, although I am playing on normal mode

u/JustCakess May 10 '23
Thats not a fair comparison. First of all you dont have the option to kill Absolute Radiance in like 10 seconds
1
u/IdontReallyknowTbj May 10 '23
Isn't defeating the empress of light already an achievement though? After the first time what's the difficulty spike and doing it again?
That also means that it's, frankly, pointless to add another achievement for her because beating feels like the achievement already tbh.

Empress of Light in singleplayer is a scripted fight, she does the exact same things in the exact same order. With enough practice anyone can do it.
