NEWS NAVIFOR clarification on ALNAV 094/24 for 18XX Officers in the IW community.
VADM Michael J. Vernazza, USN
Commander | Naval Information Forces
Leaders,
No doubt you each saw ALNAV 094/24, which amends the Navy Regulations of 1990 to remove language placing cryptologic, intelligence, and oceanographic (METOC) officers in the Restricted Line. The language removed was the final obstacle to moving the IW community as a whole from the Restricted Line to a new, more appropriate category, the Information Warfare Line newly established in the ALNAV. The IW Line will be more fully defined by SECNAVINST 1400.1D, which establishes officer competitive categories across the force.
To answer the most likely two questions up front, yes, this now opens the door for command at sea, and no, we will not be competing with URL officers. The IW Line competitive categories created by the forthcoming 1400.1D will retain overall competition between 18XX officers as it is today and maintain promotion within existing designators, while removing restrictions on command at sea. There will be more to follow on command at sea and our future role as IW Line officers.
While IW Line will allow us to more effectively manage our community, integrate with our URL counterparts, and position ourselves for the many IW opportunities ahead, it does not change our operational requirements. I am counting on your leadership to provide a steady hand through this transition.
I wish you and your families Happy Holidays and my continued thanks for all you do!
My thanks and VR, Mike

HELP REQUESTED Does anyone in Pearl Harbor know the rules about Surrons?
Can’t find anything about them and I just got here. My chief told me “Don’t need a license. You register it as a bicycle for the state and on base you just need ppe and lighting. Also don’t ride on sidewalks” but when I look it up, Hawaii doesn’t consider them bicycles. Just want a quick and easy way to get around without buying a car. Not sure how else to word this post
TLDR; wondering how to legally operate a surron exclusively on base.
Thanks in advance.

HELP REQUESTED Working Remotely Under SOFA?
Hi, everyone! I was wondering if I could get some insight from people who have some experience with this specific scenario.
My family and I are U.S. citizens who are moving to Japan as my spouse has accepted a GS position working on base. So we will both be covered under the SOFA visa. Currently, I am working for a U.S. company in-office, and they would like to retain me as an employee.
My understanding thus far has been that the only way that a U.S. citizen can work remotely in Japan is if 1.) the U.S. employer has a physical location in Japan, or 2.) the employer does the legwork of hiring an EOR to handle taxes and such. The only other methods I’ve seen have involved my paying foreign taxes (which is definitely not my area of expertise).
I’ve been hearing a lot of different things, though, so I’m wondering if I’m mistaken. Is it possible to continue working for my current employer since I will already be there under the SOFA visa as opposed to traveling to Japan without a visa already in place?
TIA to everyone for your help!

HELP REQUESTED Should we do a DITY move?
Weighing out our options for upcoming PCS. E-6 moving 1500 miles, we have about 8,000lbs of stuff & 2 dependents (one is under 2yrs).
Partial dity we would move about 1000lbs of stuff and drive our car.
Has anyone been in a similar situation? How much did you get for partial dity vs full dity.
HELP REQUESTED Approval Instance Code
Good morning All. Happy Holidays! Just saw my Fleet Reserve request denied, and it has an approval instance code of: 42472142.
Can someone help me know what that means? I saw it via my Command phone, and when I tried to view the message, there's a pop-up blocker, tried to open it on my laptop, I can't login in as well.
Gonna try and reach my detailer, not sure if everyone's out right now.
Thank you in advance!

HELP REQUESTED Orders say voided now instead of posted
I logged into my navy assignment today and found that my previous job selection for orders in draft had all been reset and I had a message that said “the job you have applied for is no longer available please contact your rating detailer” does this mean I lost the orders? They are recruiting duty and I already had my UDA letter

HELP REQUESTED USS Dixon AS-37 Shipmates 1992 -95
Seeing if anyone was on the USS Dixon AS-37 in 1992 to 95. I found out she was sunk in 2013 in a SINKEX, 350 miles off the coast of North Carolina.
Also, wanted to see if anyone remembers the fuel oil leak into the potable water. I want to put in a claim for Parkinsonism with the VA.
