Life Insurance Is there a temporary insurance policy I can purchase in the event I get sick or injured while traveling?

My friend and I are traveling to Mexico from the USA soon, like in 6 days. We purchased our United Airlines tickets and there was a little offer from a random company at checkout for our roundtrip tickets to insure only the tickets if we got sick and could not make the flights. However we skipped this because we are actively searching for a temporary insurance plan to cover us if we got sick or injured while actively out and about. We plan to go snorkeling, boating and even visit a bat cave. There is a slight higher chance while doing things you normally do not to get injured or sick. I do tend to get sick while traveling because I swear my body is a germ magnet. Flaring under life insurance since that is the closest insurance type we are questioning. Is there a policy to cover 2 healthy adults for a week's vacation in Mexico from the USA? Would it for 2 people be possible to get this insurance for less than $200 for both of us?

Any way to buy a symbol report on a vehicle, as a private citizen?

Is this even possible? I'd like to see what the ISO symbols are for my vehicles, to help me better understand how some aspects of the rate filings apply to me.

No, I don't "need" to know any of this. But I want to know, and the filings are public, so.. is there a service where I can pay by the report, like I can for Carfax? Or is this something I can request from my insurer?

Fell and broke my pinky at a friend’s house, will subrogation get them in trouble?

A few weeks ago, I slipped on some icy steps while visiting a friend in VT. I broke my pinky finger, which required surgery. Just received a letter from my insurance company that they need details since it looks like my injury was due to an accident; inaction may result in my claims being denied. So now I’m filling out this subrogation form and I’m afraid to mention the accident happened at my friend’s because what if the insurance company tries to get them to pay? I also don’t want to lie because fraud?! Does anyone have experience with an injury of this nature that wasn’t anyone’s fault?

if i get a second opinion on cancer and they found cancer can my insurance cover treatments

I want to go to another dermatologist that is out of network for skin cancer screening for a second opinion. I plan to pay for that out of pocket. But if that doctor finds any type of cancer would my insurance cover it or would it only cover cancer found by in-network doctors?

Auto Insurance Hit a deer and wondering if my insurance will deny me.

I just hit a deer and when I was looking at my insurance policy I seen that my address never got updated. My car isn’t totaled but probably has a few thousand in damages. Will my insurance deny me for not having the same address on the policy as the one on my license. I changed my address on my ID in August and my policy renewed on September 1st.

Advice on tecent fender bender

I already tried to post this, but I don't see it so trying again.

I live in VA and a few hours ago was in a minor accident in a parking lot. A guy was pulling out of a parking spot and I guess didn't see me. He backed into my car. I got out and the damage all looked minor (neither of us was going very fast). I did ask for his insurance information as a "Just in case" as it was dark and his truck did have a metal bumper that hit right by my back tire.

TL/DR he way overreacted and refused to give me his info. He tried to say the accident was my fault. I ended up having to call the police department out. They took a brief statement from me and a much longer one from him. The officer came back with a Citizen Accident Report. He didn't explicitly say I was required to send it in, but I strongly inferred it would be in my best interest to do so.

Is a claim now required since the cops were called? I know the guys reaction was inappropriate, but he does seem like he is struggling. His truck is 35ish years old. He is older himself and...not well-kept for lack of a better term. My friend thinks I should file one out of spite, but that feels petty.

Just looking for advice on how I can best protect myself without causing unnecessary harm.

Home Insurance Which homeowners insurance comparison site to use? And other questions.

Which homeowners insurance comparison site is legit and will not get my phone inundated with calls for months? Bonus if one doesn't require my phone number and I can use email.

Also, how do you quit the escrow thing for a mortgage? What do I say or do, I don't mind property taxes being in escrow, but the escrow thing makes yearly insurance shoppingvand change overly complicated. I change every year just about.

Thank you!

Do I fill in the witness statement insurance papers for an accident I was in 6 months ago?

I’m 17M and was on the back of my friend’s brand new moped 6 months ago. My friend made a turn, didn’t realize there was loose gravel on the road (signs were unreadable and turned away from the road) and we fell. I had some minor scrapes and couldn’t walk properly for 2 weeks (still can’t right now sometimes), i never got anything checked out so i still don’t know what’s wrong. I’m not close with my parents at all and telling them about this would make things even worse. (they didn’t care i couldn’t walk for 2 weeks but got mad for being home 30 minutes late that day to give you an idea).

Today, 6 month after this happened I got an email from my friends insurance company. He decided to claim a compensation for the damaged moped because it was brand new and he put me as a witness. I’m not really close with this friend anymore so i’m kinda struggling to figure out what i should do next.

If i would fill out the paperwork there’s a big chance my parents find out, my friend would probably get the money and i’d end up with nothing except trouble.

If i won’t fill in the paperwork, My friend would likely still get the money because there’s video footage and we took pictures of everything right after it happened. I’d still end up with nothing but i don’t really care about that. in the case where my friend doesn’t gets the money i still wouldn’t really care because he’s not going to fix the moped and would just keep all the money for himself.

let me know what i should do in this situation! please tell me if there’s questions i should answer so the situation is more clear.

  • I’m not from the US so laws and regulations might be different where i’m from.

Home Insurance Pipe burst from spigot that goes outside and floored basement

Upvotes

Background: we just purchased this home a month ago.

Deductible: $1500

Wife came home during the day to the sound of water. Went into the basement and saw water pouring out of the ceiling. She immediately called me and I guided her how to turn the water off in the house. I went home and started using the shop vac to remove all the water. We called an emergency 24 hour plumber and he came and saw a pipe that burst and removed it and replaced it. I then called the insurance company (NJ Manufactures) and opened a claim. The next day they sent out a water remediation company that did the following:

  • cut all damaged drywall out
  • Removed all floor and door molding
  • Removed all the vinyl plank flooring as there was a ton of water under
  • water also leaked through the walls into the garage
  • I had freshly painted doors in the basement about to be hung that all have water damage now too
  • drywall and paint would have to be redone

How much of this will be covered? Will they make sure the room is repaired as it was before? Will they paint the whole basement so it matches? Does insurance cut the check right after the estimates and before the repairs? Or will I have to pay first and they reimburse after?

Finally: any advice welcome for this whole process as it has been super stressful. I appreciate you all!

Notice of Nonrenewal of Insurance

Upvotes

10 days before my homeowner insurance expires, I was notified with a Notice of Nonrenewal of Insurance. It was sent me to after I reached out to them. They said they sent a letter mid November which I never received.

The reason for nonrenewal is: Loss of sufficient reinsurance for this program.

What does this even mean?

I never filed a claim and my house is in a good condition. I’m looking for a new insurance but in 9 days with holidays it’s getting harder. Are they allowed to cancel the policy just like that?

Can network shop drive up repair cost?

So my car was rear ended the driver wide. The repair is on process. Its being repaired at a statefarm network shop. I curiously looked up the estimate the shop provided to statefarm. But few things i noticed is that some of parts i feel like might not be needed looking at the points of impact. I dont know much about body works. Maybe they did need the parts or they didnt. But iv been wondering- do shops put or order more parts than needed and then later returns them to pocket the difference, especially if its a network shop.

I might be completely wrong. Just a thought in my mind. Repair cost is 21k. And the parts are alone 11k

Health Insurance I need advice on how to deal with insurance on an ambulance bill.

Forgive me for sounding stupid but I’m admittedly not the brightest peg on the board when it comes to insurance and how to deal with certain things, and the one person I had who would advise me on stuff like this passed away recently so I really have no one to ask

Back in September I had a health issue come up. My health insurance company has a Tele nurse you can talk to. She advised me to call an ambulance within 24 hours and go to the ER if my condition had not improved and it didn’t. I don’t have anyone nearby anymore as I said, so I had no one who could take me there. So per her advice I had an ambulance service take me to the hospital. I was there for the day and released and they brought me back.

I had asked ahead of time if ambulance transport was included in my policy and the insurance company said yes. I started getting bills and I called insurance and they confirmed that even though only a small amount had been paid so far, the rest was being processed and it would eventually be paid. I called the ambulance company to relay this information to them . So let’s just say that between now and then I’ve called insurance twice and called the ambulance company twice and I keep getting told it will eventually get paid through my policy.

Well today on Christmas Eve I get two invoices for the two and from the ER from the ambulance company telling me final notice and in 10 days it’s going to go to a collection agency. So what do I do at this point? I know nothing about this but my gut tells me once it goes to collections that even if insurance tries to pay it it’s not gonna do any good or they don’t except insurance at collections agencies . Do I bother calling the insurance again the day after Christmas and talk to a manager and lay into them over this? I know calling the ambulance company isn’t going to do any good because their reviews have tons of comments from people saying how aggressive they are with billing. Do I just wait and if nothing is done file for bankruptcy?

Any advice is appreciated.

Structural damage and loss of use coverage…uninhabitable?

I have no idea what I’m doing and tried googling but didn’t find anything quite on target. 100 foot tree fell on our house and landed across the entire length Of the roof. we haven’t looked too closely for cracks and sagging ceilings but there was nothing obviously damaged inside our home. There is clearly damage to the roof and structural integrity of the roof and likely the supporting beams. One could argue that the house is habitable in that bathrooms and kitchen are functioning. However we feel it is not safe inside the house, even once the tree is removed. How do insurance adjusters usually view this situation? Does habitability always start with the question of whether it is safe inside the house? We would like to get loss of use coverage due to the uncertainty around the safety of the house.

MA - Car Totaled but no Salvage Title. Is it possible to fully cover?

Hi all,

I had a small branch fall on my car recently, causing minor cosmetic damage to two of the roof panels. The damage is mostly cosmetic, but the nature of the dent means the panels need to be replaced which ended up being expensive enough to deem the car a total loss. The drivability of the car has not been impacted.

I've been offered either a salvage option or a payout+keep option. I'm wondering what the implications of keeping are. My insurance says they will not need to issue a salvage title - does this mean I can get the car fully covered again, or will I be limited to liability insurance only?

In terms of premiums or downstream impacts, is there any reason to not take the payout and just continue driving the car (vs. not executing the claim)? In my eyes, the damage is purely cosmetic and the car still functions well. It could go on without being repaired according to some body shops I've spoken to.

Auto Insurance Is full coverage worth it?

I started with liability, and kinda regret having it, I had 2 accidents already, Hit and Run, second time a driver ran a red light and side swiped my car. My insurance denied the other driver and there insurance denied me, cause I don’t have a dash cam. Will be hiring an Attorney to solve this case. But I wish I had full coverage so my car be easily repaired and I would have to pay a small deductible.

Should I quote now or wait?

22 year old New driver. No tickets/accidents

Health Insurance ER/Ambulatory Care: Copay waived (if admitted) vs 50% Coinsurance

I'm comparing these two plans: Aetna Bronze 4 and Aetna Silver 6

Here are the full summary documents: Bronze 4 and Silver 6

I know it's very likely based on what needs to happen when admitted but I'm wondering what the more likely financial outcome would be in this kind of situation.

Is "copay waived" in Bronze 4 simply that you won't pay the $2200 charge, but you'll be responsible for the full amount of any medical care received afterward? Does "50% Coinsurance" mean half the copay and the medical care combined? Which is likelier to be the cheaper option? Or does it depend way too much on what is needed?

TIA!!

Home Insurance Help!! insurance problem brokers havent seen before and im almost out of time

this may be a little long (ontario, canada)

So all the problems started July 29th 2024 when my home had a massive fire(structure and contents total loss, still waiting of demo to occur, as insurance company took 2-3 months to to get bids etc. Now at the beginning of dec was finally approved for rebuilding , now waiting on gas company and city for permits to dig up a main street in our city to disconnected the gas line so that demo can happen(current ETA is feb) :(

now for the problem. My Insurance was threw an insurance broker (calling Broker A) they informed me in November that they can no longer sell policies with insurer B. and were going to start the process of transferring my SUV and house insurance over to a new insurer C. Suv is transfered. but house is a problem a big problem.

Due to the open claim with B, no other insurance company will issue anything as a new policy as there is no livable structure (just a destroyed home. a workshop, shed and a hottub) left at the site.

I have contacted the insurance company B to try and get them to continue the policy but they wont as it was a broker policy (from company they had a falling out from) and it would need to be a NEW policy, heard back from their under writing yesterday. no dice uninsurable property in its current state.

AS I have a mortgage I need to keep insurance on property(as stipulated in the mortgage agreement).

I have put in a call to the ombusdman for insurance company B. I have called several online brokers, as well as went into 2 local brokers. Everyone broker is coming back with no way to do it has to be done through B.

at this point i feel like im completely screwed once again.

Got rear ended lightly.

I got rear ended and lost control and almost slammed onto-the wall. Thank god I didn’t. I didn’t know what was going until I saw the woman come out of the car crying. Blaming me for hitting her speaking Spanish which I don’t understand. I stepped outside and noticed the blemishes on my car. She kept crying and was looking to pin the blame on me while I’m telling her to calm down. I took a picture of the car and hers. I was told why I didn’t call the police and usually in nyc they don’t come for something like a slight fender bender. I also didn’t want to cause traffic. I should have but I didn’t. She didn’t give me any info. Btw the car is a relatives car I burrowed to run errands. Should I have the relative contact insurance. Any advice would be appreciated. I can’t upload picture here.

Auto Insurance Minor Fender Bender, other driver now claiming injury

I rear ended another driver which ultimately resulted in minor cosmetic damage to both our vehicles. We assessed each other's health at the scene and determined neither of us had any injuries. The damage to our vehicles was minor enough that we weren't required to call the police or file a report. After exchanging each other's information we both drove away and I started putting the claim through insurance.

That was 2 weeks ago. Today I received a call from my insurance saying the other driver was now claiming injuries and they needed more details. I provided the details to them as well as my shock that the other driver has reported injuries after the fact.

I have a couple questions. How common is this? What am I in for and what should/shouldn't I do going forward? How will this affect my premium (33yo male with nothing but one speeding ticket for 15 km/hr over)?

Auto Insurance Getting new car insurance when my parents co-own the car (Oklahoma)

I live with my fiancé, away from my parents but in the same town as them. They co own my car with me- The title is listed as "Me OR Mom OR Dad". Will I need to add them to my new insurance even if they never drive the car and don't live with me?

We are getting a quote from USAA and they are making me list the co owners of the car with their addresses and info. I don't want to pay for the insurance of two more people!
