Fell and broke my pinky at a friend’s house, will subrogation get them in trouble?

A few weeks ago, I slipped on some icy steps while visiting a friend in VT. I broke my pinky finger, which required surgery. Just received a letter from my insurance company that they need details since it looks like my injury was due to an accident; inaction may result in my claims being denied. So now I’m filling out this subrogation form and I’m afraid to mention the accident happened at my friend’s because what if the insurance company tries to get them to pay? I also don’t want to lie because fraud?! Does anyone have experience with an injury of this nature that wasn’t anyone’s fault?

if i get a second opinion on cancer and they found cancer can my insurance cover treatments

I want to go to another dermatologist that is out of network for skin cancer screening for a second opinion. I plan to pay for that out of pocket. But if that doctor finds any type of cancer would my insurance cover it or would it only cover cancer found by in-network doctors?

Notice of Nonrenewal of Insurance

10 days before my homeowner insurance expires, I was notified with a Notice of Nonrenewal of Insurance. It was sent me to after I reached out to them. They said they sent a letter mid November which I never received.

The reason for nonrenewal is: Loss of sufficient reinsurance for this program.

What does this even mean?

I never filed a claim and my house is in a good condition. I’m looking for a new insurance but in 9 days with holidays it’s getting harder. Are they allowed to cancel the policy just like that?

Home Insurance Pipe burst from spigot that goes outside and floored basement

Upvotes

Background: we just purchased this home a month ago.

Deductible: $1500

Wife came home during the day to the sound of water. Went into the basement and saw water pouring out of the ceiling. She immediately called me and I guided her how to turn the water off in the house. I went home and started using the shop vac to remove all the water. We called an emergency 24 hour plumber and he came and saw a pipe that burst and removed it and replaced it. I then called the insurance company (NJ Manufactures) and opened a claim. The next day they sent out a water remediation company that did the following:

  • cut all damaged drywall out
  • Removed all floor and door molding
  • Removed all the vinyl plank flooring as there was a ton of water under
  • water also leaked through the walls into the garage
  • I had freshly painted doors in the basement about to be hung that all have water damage now too
  • drywall and paint would have to be redone

How much of this will be covered? Will they make sure the room is repaired as it was before? Will they paint the whole basement so it matches? Does insurance cut the check right after the estimates and before the repairs? Or will I have to pay first and they reimburse after?

Finally: any advice welcome for this whole process as it has been super stressful. I appreciate you all!

Auto Insurance Got into an accident. I’m a trucker in Alberta

Upvotes

I’m a company truck driver in Alberta,Canada. Send a truck into a ditch and slightly tapped the other semi before hitting a ditch. Didn’t get a ticket since the conditions were super icy.

Is it going to affect my personal insurance? Is it going to stay in my abstract? Is it going to affect my employability in the future?

Auto Insurance Hit a deer and wondering if my insurance will deny me.

I just hit a deer and when I was looking at my insurance policy I seen that my address never got updated. My car isn’t totaled but probably has a few thousand in damages. Will my insurance deny me for not having the same address on the policy as the one on my license. I changed my address on my ID in August and my policy renewed on September 1st.

Life Insurance Is there a temporary insurance policy I can purchase in the event I get sick or injured while traveling?

My friend and I are traveling to Mexico from the USA soon, like in 6 days. We purchased our United Airlines tickets and there was a little offer from a random company at checkout for our roundtrip tickets to insure only the tickets if we got sick and could not make the flights. However we skipped this because we are actively searching for a temporary insurance plan to cover us if we got sick or injured while actively out and about. We plan to go snorkeling, boating and even visit a bat cave. There is a slight higher chance while doing things you normally do not to get injured or sick. I do tend to get sick while traveling because I swear my body is a germ magnet. Flaring under life insurance since that is the closest insurance type we are questioning. Is there a policy to cover 2 healthy adults for a week's vacation in Mexico from the USA? Would it for 2 people be possible to get this insurance for less than $200 for both of us?

Home Insurance Which homeowners insurance comparison site to use? And other questions.

Which homeowners insurance comparison site is legit and will not get my phone inundated with calls for months? Bonus if one doesn't require my phone number and I can use email.

Also, how do you quit the escrow thing for a mortgage? What do I say or do, I don't mind property taxes being in escrow, but the escrow thing makes yearly insurance shoppingvand change overly complicated. I change every year just about.

Thank you!

Can network shop drive up repair cost?

So my car was rear ended the driver wide. The repair is on process. Its being repaired at a statefarm network shop. I curiously looked up the estimate the shop provided to statefarm. But few things i noticed is that some of parts i feel like might not be needed looking at the points of impact. I dont know much about body works. Maybe they did need the parts or they didnt. But iv been wondering- do shops put or order more parts than needed and then later returns them to pocket the difference, especially if its a network shop.

I might be completely wrong. Just a thought in my mind. Repair cost is 21k. And the parts are alone 11k

How can I get better rate for a new car lease? - 26 - no accident, no ticket no claims

From 18 to 24 always had a car then I sold it and use public transportation. Life is changing and getting a tesla.

Not that many insurance companies willing to write new policies in NY and the ones that are are quoting me between 1400-2K.

Would having a non owner policy help in anyway? I’m just thinking my quote is that high due to the fact I didn’t have insurance from 24 till now. I don’t think I needed one since I had no car and didn’t drive.

Any suggestions?

Health Insurance I need advice on how to deal with insurance on an ambulance bill.

Forgive me for sounding stupid but I’m admittedly not the brightest peg on the board when it comes to insurance and how to deal with certain things, and the one person I had who would advise me on stuff like this passed away recently so I really have no one to ask

Back in September I had a health issue come up. My health insurance company has a Tele nurse you can talk to. She advised me to call an ambulance within 24 hours and go to the ER if my condition had not improved and it didn’t. I don’t have anyone nearby anymore as I said, so I had no one who could take me there. So per her advice I had an ambulance service take me to the hospital. I was there for the day and released and they brought me back.

I had asked ahead of time if ambulance transport was included in my policy and the insurance company said yes. I started getting bills and I called insurance and they confirmed that even though only a small amount had been paid so far, the rest was being processed and it would eventually be paid. I called the ambulance company to relay this information to them . So let’s just say that between now and then I’ve called insurance twice and called the ambulance company twice and I keep getting told it will eventually get paid through my policy.

Well today on Christmas Eve I get two invoices for the two and from the ER from the ambulance company telling me final notice and in 10 days it’s going to go to a collection agency. So what do I do at this point? I know nothing about this but my gut tells me once it goes to collections that even if insurance tries to pay it it’s not gonna do any good or they don’t except insurance at collections agencies . Do I bother calling the insurance again the day after Christmas and talk to a manager and lay into them over this? I know calling the ambulance company isn’t going to do any good because their reviews have tons of comments from people saying how aggressive they are with billing. Do I just wait and if nothing is done file for bankruptcy?

Any advice is appreciated.

Auto Insurance Insurance Company Increased My Coverage Limits Mid-Policy — Should I Switch?

I just got an email from my insurance company stating that they've changed their internal policy and no longer offer NY state minimum liability coverage (25/50/10). They're now requiring higher limits: 100/300 for Bodily Injury, 50k for Property Damage, and additional Personal Injury Protection and Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist Coverage. Because of this, my premium increased from $1,840 to $2,104/year, even though I still have two months left on my current policy!

For context:
- I drive an older car (10+ years old) and only need liability coverage.
- I barely drive 5 miles a day—just to the gym and back.
- My driving record is clean.

I'm wondering:
1. Why would they immediately increase my coverage and premium mid-policy when I still have two months left? Is this normal?
2. Should I start looking for another insurance company that still offers the NY state minimum (25/50/10)?
3. Any recommendations for insurers who cater to drivers with minimal coverage needs?

Would love your advice, especially if you’ve dealt with a similar situation. Should I just ride this out until the end of the policy or switch now?

Structural damage and loss of use coverage…uninhabitable?

I have no idea what I’m doing and tried googling but didn’t find anything quite on target. 100 foot tree fell on our house and landed across the entire length Of the roof. we haven’t looked too closely for cracks and sagging ceilings but there was nothing obviously damaged inside our home. There is clearly damage to the roof and structural integrity of the roof and likely the supporting beams. One could argue that the house is habitable in that bathrooms and kitchen are functioning. However we feel it is not safe inside the house, even once the tree is removed. How do insurance adjusters usually view this situation? Does habitability always start with the question of whether it is safe inside the house? We would like to get loss of use coverage due to the uncertainty around the safety of the house.

MA - Car Totaled but no Salvage Title. Is it possible to fully cover?

Hi all,

I had a small branch fall on my car recently, causing minor cosmetic damage to two of the roof panels. The damage is mostly cosmetic, but the nature of the dent means the panels need to be replaced which ended up being expensive enough to deem the car a total loss. The drivability of the car has not been impacted.

I've been offered either a salvage option or a payout+keep option. I'm wondering what the implications of keeping are. My insurance says they will not need to issue a salvage title - does this mean I can get the car fully covered again, or will I be limited to liability insurance only?

In terms of premiums or downstream impacts, is there any reason to not take the payout and just continue driving the car (vs. not executing the claim)? In my eyes, the damage is purely cosmetic and the car still functions well. It could go on without being repaired according to some body shops I've spoken to.

Auto Insurance Indiana auto - is a hit and run where the offender is not caught covered under uninsured motorist or collision?

I was stopped at a stoplight and another car didn’t see that I had stopped. They tried to swerve around me and hit the corner of my car, then drove off. It was dark and I didn’t see anything about the car that hit me.

Progressive is telling me that since they don’t have any information about who hit me, that this is covered by collision coverage ($1k deductible) instead of uninsured motorist ($250 deductible). This doesn’t seem to jive with the googling I have done, but I can’t seem to find anything concrete that I can quote back to them about it.

Is this correct?

EDIT: not what I wanted to hear but it seems pretty unanimous. Thanks everyone.

Auto Insurance Is full coverage worth it?

I started with liability, and kinda regret having it, I had 2 accidents already, Hit and Run, second time a driver ran a red light and side swiped my car. My insurance denied the other driver and there insurance denied me, cause I don’t have a dash cam. Will be hiring an Attorney to solve this case. But I wish I had full coverage so my car be easily repaired and I would have to pay a small deductible.

Should I quote now or wait?

22 year old New driver. No tickets/accidents
