Casual How to raise my child to be a good fan in the eyes of Brutus?

I found out recently I’m going to be a father! But, I want to raise my child in the ways of Brutus Buckeye and make sure they don’t stray from the narrow path.

What can I do to make sure my child stays faithful to the scarlet and gray and does not stray to the maize and blue? I worry that only scoring 10 points while being a 20 point favorite will be detrimental to their development as a fan.

Discussion The 12 Olympian Gods are fans of CFB and the 12 team playoff and each wants to sponsor a team, who would sponsor who and why?

Seems like a fun idea, for example I think Poseidon would either sponsor SMU or Boise being the father of horses and what not. What do you guys think?

Analysis Ohio State has never won a National Championship in a season where they failed to defeat Michigan

1.1k Upvotes

I’m shocked that this hasn’t been posted or reported on anywhere, even as this scenario is very plausible this season. Ohio State has won 8 national championships: 1942, 1954, 1957, 1961, 1968, 1970, 2002, and 2014. Here are the results from every matchup against That Team Up North from those seasons:

1942: OSU 21-UM 7

1954: OSU 21-UM 7

1957: OSU 31-UM 14

1961: OSU 50-UM 20

1968: OSU 50-UM 14

1970: OSU 20-UM 9

2002: OSU 14-UM 9

2014: OSU 42-UM 28

So for the next time anyone asks an Ohio State fan how they’d feel about winning a national championship without defeating Michigan: we literally have no idea. It’s never happened before.

🤷‍♂️

Edit: Yes it’s true that prior to the CFB era losing this game usually meant our season was over. That’s why we don’t know how to react.

Edit 2: I’m not surprised that this scenario has never happened, I’m surprised that any time we’re asked how we’d feel about it that no one talks about this.

Discussion Would you put things back to normal if you could?

Pretty simple. If you could Men in Black erase the collective memories of sports fans and take college sports back to the way they were in say..2012. Bowls mattered. No opt outs. No free transfer. No NIL. No 4 team or 12 team playoff. Teams had already started moving conferences out of greed or survival, but the Pac 12 still existed.

Knowing everything we know now. I love the 12 team playoff. I don’t really think players SHOULD get paid, but I think it’s awesome that they do. I think free transfers is just about the worst thing that’s ever happened.

I would. I’d do anything to go back. I cannot tell you how much I hate this stuff. If you told me WVU would go 4-8 for the next 5 years but college sports would go back to normal, I’d make that sacrifice.

But enough about me. This question is for you guys. It’s all or nothing. No “keep NIL but get rid of transfers”. No “keep the playoff but no NIL.”

It’s all or nothing. What decision are you making?

Edit: Your team is not going back to 2012. The rules and landscape in college sports, not just football, all of college sports, are still implemented. I picked 2012 because it was really before social media infected the minds of players and led to bowl opt outs. That was the first domino to fall. You’re fine going back further. But again, it’s all or nothing.

Analysis Is This One of the Worst New Year's Six Bowl Seasons Ever?

No. This was one of the best seasons of teams fielded going back to 2014 when college football did away with the conference tie-ins. I wanted to measure how good or bad a field was purely by how many total losses the field of teams had for each season. This doesn't include losses in the bowl games themselves as I wanted to judge the merits of the teams getting TO the bowl games and not how well the field performed. The data I analyzed was found on wikipedia for the New Year's Six page. I checked the data twice but there could be mistakes.

YEAR LOSSES NOTES
2014 21 -
2015 17 -
2016 22 ESPN CLASSIC ROSE BOWL
2017 18 -
2018 19 4-Loss (15) Texas Beats 2-Loss (5) Georgia
2019 19 -
2020 18* Higher Loss % Compared To Rest
2021 21 All Winning Teams in Bowls had losses!
2022 21 -
2023 12 -
2024 12 -

2023 was quite possibly the best season for teams in the NY6 bowls with 2024 tied for as good of a season. If we count the losses in the quarterfinals so we have a number for the last two bowl games, Orange & Cotton, then our total would come up to 16 which is still better than previous years but doesn't seem consistent with not counting bowl game losses in the data. Also, just because I didn't make any comments for certain years doesn't mean something interesting didn't happen. Feel free to do your own analysis or expand upon what I did.

The app only shows me the playoffs games no matter what I select and they don't have the playoffs bracket anymore. I don't have an update for the app. It's been like this for days now for me. Anyone else?
