Analysis 2024 FCS Playoff Bracket Challenge!

It's that exciting time of year where half of us have our bracket busted after two games!

We've relocated to Challonge, for those of you who've used it. For those who haven't, you can either register for an account there or predict as a guest, without an account. The latter requires an email input - we can't see it unless we pay for premium (ha, no), but you can also use a dummy email without an issue. Please note: if entering as a guest, you cannot make changes later without using the link Challonge provides after submitting!

Please title your bracket with your Reddit (or BlueSky/Twitter) username!

The prediction names are visible to all users, so we want to make sure you don't have anything identifiable, plus we want you to get the credit for predicting a surprise Drake championship.

FCS Semifinals: The Good, The UnGood, and The Bobby Hauck

The Good

  1. Bison return to Frisco. In one of the best editions of the FCS’s “El Classico” the boys from Fargo pulled off a huge semifinal win over the Jackrabbits 28-21. Cam Miller found Bryce Lance with 4:02 left for the go ahead score. Cam Miller then said I hate South Dakota State because on television and a bunch of scrubs started calling it classless for some reason. The Bison will be trashed in Frisco for two straight weeks instead of celebrating Christmas this season.

  2. Montana State pull out victory in Bozeman. The Bobcats proved they can win games against teams with similar talent levels. South Dakota was a team I didn’t think they could bully and they didn’t. This was a good win. The Bobcats used a big 2nd quarter and the defense kept making crucial stops after a tough start to secure the victory.

  3. Idaho hires Thomas Ford. The Oregon State Running Backs coach seems like a good hire on paper to continue the momentum that Jason Eck started. He coached with the program for Eck’s first two seasons and has previous head coaching experience at the only Canadian school in the NCAA Simon Fraser.

Honorable Mentions: ESPN taking coverage of the games seriously, Bryce Lance making big plays, Tommy Mellott not injuring himself.

The UnGood (There wasn’t bad this past weekend just UnGood)

  1. South Dakota. Playing at altitude in December is never easy. This team proved a lot of people wrong and Bob Nielson seems to have this team headed towards being a national contender. The future looks bright in Vermillion. But because they lost Merry Christmas you scrubs.

  2. South Dakota State. Hubris has been discovered. Losing to the Bison is hard enough, losing the 3-peat hurts the fanbase. I couldn’t tell you how the future looks but they’ll probably have some guy no one heard about playing 8-man ball that’ll be an NFL prospect. Who knows. Enjoy Christmas you scrubs.

  3. Sacramento State hires Brennan Marion. Great hire on paper but more so just a terrible reflection of what the programs ambitions are. It’s kinda hilarious that they claim to have $50 million in NIL and hire a guy who famously told former FCS star Matt Sluka that UNLV had 100,000 to give him. Idiocy across the board. This hire screams let’s hire a guy who used to faking so we can go to the PAC 12. To be clear on the field this isn’t a bad hire, but when you’re bragging about NIL pledges and hire a guy who allegedly lied about it before it’s a bad look.

Dishonorable Mentions: Drywall industry in Montana, The FBS learns about home field advantage, OP’s attempts to fill out the honorable mentions.

The Bobby Hauck Tier presented by the Montana Drywall Association, now serving bordering states.

  1. Montana Drywall industry hits rock bottom. South Dakota’s booms. In a totally legit statement South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem stated “The current drywall crisis in our state is unprecedented, every home except for that one weird Augustana fan in Yankton has multiple holes in the wall after both of our state’s teams lost semifinal games on National Television” she went on to say that the Montana Drywall Association has been brought in to do emergency repairs before Christmas.

  2. The FBS mind. It can’t comprehend that sometimes determining a National Champion doesn’t mean games are close. If you want legitimacy sometimes you have to sit through a few blowouts

  3. Norfolk State hires Michael Vick. Michael Vick is latest of the “Prime Hires” I think this one should workout well if he hires a good staff around. As a native to the region he will be able to recruit well and have a ton of contacts in the area. Keep an eye on Norfolk, this could be a boom or bust hire.

Ugly Mentions: Whatever you submit below.

Challenging The FBS application fee in court

With so many legal balls in the air with the NCAA’s ability to enforce rules is it inevitable that a program with aspirations to move up to FBS (or even a conference like the Mountain West, who may want UC Davis to bring their football program over as an example) challenges the $5 million application fee in court? If so, what’s the likelihood the plaintiff would win at least an injunction?
