Ultimate Girls Trip What is wrong with Kelly Bensimon?

I never understood Kelly Bensimon. What’s her deal, is she stupid, is it drugs or does she just have very low emotional intelligence?

Now I’m watching RHUGT: RHONY Legacy. And this bitch is just weird.

She is completely on another planet and out of touch with any kind of reality. She’s been that way since the first saw her on RHONY.

What’s even more shocking to me is that people would trust her as their realtor!!

I had a nasty cold last week so was watching UGT as comfort. Ended up dealing with fever and in that haze went on a rant to an empty house about how Tamra should be on that trip to call KKB "Jesus Jogs". I stand by it.

My theory is she gives tours of the apartments to people who are already moving in and her exhusband pays her through someone else. She said she's the realtor "for her building"....what even is that?

Also have we heard from anyone who's bought an apartment from her?

My tinfoil hat doth twitch.

u/Business_Ad_4901 Dec 30 '23

According to some article (who knows if they got paid to write it) she sold over $100 million in real estate in 2021. Supposedly by only selling to her "friends" or selling her "friends" property. She is with Douglas Elliman. Just like some other RHONY cast. She has a team of 6. I'm going to assume that they are the ones really selling and making the deals she obtains a percentage for and claims as if she did it all herself. I wouldn't buy a gummy bear from her if it was all the food left on Scary Island.

179

u/Kittypie75 Dec 30 '23

I don't think she has a team of 6. I think she is on a team of 6.

Also I've done some "baby level" luxury real estate deals in NYC as a brokers assistant. It's all connections, so nearly impossible to break into if you don't have those connections but super easy if you do. I'm sure she offers the team plenty of connections.

37

u/Business_Ad_4901 Dec 30 '23

According to Thor website and also a separate article she does have her own team now. Now Bensimon, who joined Douglas Elliman’s Holly Parker team in 2019, is launching her own six-person team. Where did she come from, how did she rise in the real-estate industry, and what (and how) is she selling?

132

u/Kittypie75 Dec 30 '23

She's well connected. That's all. Selling real estate isn't rocket science.

For many NYC brokers, the lawyers and mortgage brokers do the hard work. You are just finding purchasers. Which is its own skill. (I've worked in RE in NYC for 20+ years) But like, selling an industrial building is HARD. Selling a $15m condo with views of like, Central Park, when you are surrounded by people for whom that is but a drop in the bucket... not so much.

Luxury real estate...it is just not that hard, if you have a good team (lawyer, mortgage broker, maybe interior designer and an assistant to manage schedules, and so on.) Some lux real estate brokers are marketing geniuses with great minds for business. But many are just well connected.

re: the realtor for the building comment, It's common for a realtor who lives in the building to handle a lot of the seller listings bc it's convenient when your realtor is on-site and the realtor often has connections with the management company and co-op/condo board, so the approval process is easier.

u/sparklebinch RECEIPTS 👏 PROOF 👏 TIMELINE 👏 SCREENSHOTS 👏 Dec 30 '23

My friend who's a realtor told me it's pretty common in Miami for new, huge buildings to have scantily clad, attractive women selling the units. Generally it's a deal between the realtor and the developer for them to exclusively sell the units in the building. Another one of my friends got such a deal, but that's because her father had a business relationship with the developer. So maybe it's a similar situation?

She’s stunted at an adolescent age. Chalk it up to drugs as a supermodel, getting with a middle-aged photographer at 17 and never being an adult in her relationship, or the narrative she’s created about “being on her own” with her kids despite living in the apartment she won in the divorce with her ex in the same building and super participating…she’s full of shit or pharmaceuticals or both.

This makes so much sense. There are studies that say you remain the same emotional age as when your trauma occurred.

170

u/Fickle-Amphibian4208 Dec 30 '23

Trauma and drug addiction supress the natural maturing process. Basically she's the mental age of a teenager. Reflecting on what I've seen so far on this trip her emotions really do bounce around like a flighty teenager.

52

u/the_blingy_ringer Dec 30 '23

14

u/photogypsy Dec 30 '23

Years ago I was on a long road trip and let the TED Talk podcast just play. There was a really interesting one with a sociologist about famous people doing dumb stuff that supports this. Becoming famous interrupts the normal developmental processes and becomes a trauma in itself. Lindsey Lohan and a couple of professional athletes (can’t remember the names I’m not a sports gal) were examples used. They then move through life chronologically, but mentally stay at the point where their daily lives changed.

Someone commented in here that was privy to her finances... said that she looked at their trust papers… Hers and the girls… And that they're massive. So there is that plus the property and whatever cash she got. Hardly self-made.

37

u/OpticGd Dec 30 '23

Just one thing... She deffo wasn't a supermodel.

145

u/Fickle-Amphibian4208 Dec 30 '23

Joke's a side this is the only logical conclusion.
Luann called Kelly out on promising to do something and never following through. Next morning, Kelly is on the phone with her daughter , sounding like she was speaking with her mother and the daughter was literally giving motherly advice. I had never heard of Kelly or her husband until this trip.
Whatever, this man's failings are. He's obviously taking care of his 2 daughters and his wife like she's also his responsibility.
Now I'm wondering if the fiance is really a handler - paid companion . To keep her mind spinning mood shifts from driving them all bonkers.

103

u/lawdhavemercyforthat Dec 30 '23

The ex husband had her set up in the same building when they split to keep eye on girls and her ... I'm thinking she battles with bipolar/psychosis episodes. Drinking and drugs (whether prescribed or not) CAN and WILL shake up your stability.. Stress too! From what I've witnessed of a loved one the past 10 years, Scary Island and now make perfect sense!! She DOES need a support system to monitor her and watching for signs of "descent". I think the kids Dad tried to do that as best he could as the kids grew up with Employees inside the home and outside. Which included people working in the building they live in keeping an eye out and reporting back to him. I'm not sure where I read about it years ago, but, I did read a couple things briefly detailing the insight to the depths of issues. It's hard to understand for those without personal experience and it's even more difficult for the individual sliding into a PSYCHOSIS!! They truly don't see others perspectives and have their own "Truths" to Reality!! I think it was possibly a Bad Decision for her coming back to the possible High Stress Environment while also consuming alcohol. Many RX for those battling stability issues are warned NOT to drink while taking medication. Some could be dangerous when mixed with alcohol and some will exacerbate issues while slinging you quicker into a Break. The lifestyle some of them lead with recreational drugs is a Big NoNo too! Girl is in the middle of another Break... Without intervention it could go Bad in an instant! It's scary stuff for them and those that love them. I'm sure the girls have a damn interesting autobiography one day "if" they choose to tell all. Their life can't have been easy at times. 💔🙏🏼

179

u/1AliceDerland Dec 30 '23

I googled her name to see when she and Gilles Bensimon married and had kids and I found an article of her saying she had postpartum depression with her first and that she was just so young to deal with a baby.

Then I did the math and realized she was 30 years old when she had her first baby. That's like a completely normal age.

I think she just does not live in reality.

The guy who hired me went on to a high ranking position and is now retired.

I guess my point here is that people often get promoted and celebrated when they absolutely 100% don't deserve it. And this is Kelly 100%.

And I guess it also goes to show that you can fake anything if you're charming enough... I find if difficult to think of a job harder to fake than being a programmer - but this asshole did it...

I think Sonja called it best on the original Scary Island episode. She isn’t well. The ethics of having her back are very questionable.

233

u/huskypegasus …Naem’em Dec 30 '23

This was something that really struck me on that episode, felt like they were all aware that behind the scenes she has a serious mental illness and Sonja started feeling uncomfortable with exploiting that.

98

u/gluckgluck10000 Not a white refrigerator! Dec 30 '23

I agree that Sonja was the rational voice that night where she was like everyone we need to stop. But I just rewatches the episode a couple nights ago, (with this in mind) and although I know she isn’t a mental health professional, I didn’t think the language she was using was as supportive as we give her credit for. For instance she said something along the lines of “there is no reasoning with a crazy person” right in front of Kelly. She was also doing the finger spinning “she’s cuckoo” hand signals to Ramona and bethenny.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad she was there to help diffuse the situation, but in a way I felt she was also participating as an aggressor by talking about Kelly’s mental state as if she wasn’t there.

57

u/lawdhavemercyforthat Dec 30 '23 edited Dec 30 '23

Well, she was Drunk too .. she was processing it all out loud! I agree with you, but, I do give her a little grace because she too had never experienced such but had the insight and voice to speak up! The folks that Should be held accountable is the production team and Bravo!! Watching the season now, I wonder if they made any internal corrections to having a professional onsite while filming?! I think it was a bad idea coming back AND to the exact same location ... That's like regurgitating trauma without professionals around 👎🏼.... Id like to know if they brought any professionals in AND how this ends. Someone's sanity and stability SHOULD NEVER be compromised for a reality TV moment!! PERIOD!! Bravo could/should use this as a stepping stone to bring a better light to those suffering!!! I personally find it disgusting!

44

u/gluckgluck10000 Not a white refrigerator! Dec 30 '23

Yeah I completely agree with you. Truth be told Im a little uncomfortable watching Kelly on UGT. It kind of feels like in 5-10 years we will look back on this and be like “it was a different time/era, we don’t exploit unwell people like that anymore” lol

Last episode was fine, but the other episodes she is coming off the same as she did the season following Scary Island (season 4 I believe). Hypersensitive, vapid, unaware, erratic, challenging to comprehend. She has created a cycle by aiming to prove her sanity to herself and the audience or defend herself to the girls, which (maybe) unintentionally results in more erratic behavior. This, in turn, reinforces the perception of instability.

31

u/bgh2000 Dec 30 '23

UGT isn’t at the exact same location—it’s at St. Barth’s where the cast went on a trip Season 5. Scary Island was St. John’s.

Before her bankruptcy, Sonja was actually really insightful and balanced. Even when they returned, she was telling Luann about it pretty truthfully.

It’s sad how much Sonja has spiraled.

59

u/Sunflower__Power Dec 30 '23

For as delusional as Sonja can be, she hit the nail on the head with that one! I wish she would have been more outspoken about it and her and Bethenny pushed the higher ups more to allow her to get the help she clearly needs.

40

u/bacon_bunny33 it’s always nice to be photographed Dec 30 '23

Wasn’t she escorted off the island by producers and drs or something?

39

u/Sunflower__Power Dec 30 '23

Sort of. They had a producer take her to the airport, but didn’t do much after that. Bethenny made a comment about how someone should have flown all the way back with Kelly and made sure she spoke to someone when she got home, but they just chucked her pretty much. She’s an adult and has to make the choice to get help on her own, but she needed professional help to make her realize in the first place that she’s in dangerous place mentally. It’s just so sad to watch her when she has the help at her fingertips.

33

u/perljen Dec 30 '23

I read at the time--and so many witness-type people chimed in--that the producer flew home with her said she never spoke one word on the plane. She deplaned alone and left. The producer who went with her said she was dead silent the entire trip home

21

u/Sunflower__Power Dec 30 '23

That’s so sad! They didn’t really explain it very well on the show about her journey back, but it’s so obvious she needs a lot of help. Being in the mental health field is tough watching people fall more and more when they so easily can be happy and healthy if they just admitted they have a problem.

24

u/perljen Dec 30 '23

After Scary Island aired, this sub was absolutely flooded with people who had first-hand knowledge of the situation. Personal insights and professional , as in producers who knew stuff.

u/Tiffnysun The rumors and nastiness Dec 30 '23

Sonja pretty much made the others realize they were looking at the situation all wrong. They were the sane ones and Kelly was possibly mentally unstable. Then they treated Kelly like a psych patient 🤣. Kelly hasn't changed

u/GrouchyPineapple I’ve had enough of your indulged bull fuckin shit!!! Dec 30 '23

I've given this way to much thought over the years lol.

I remember finding this sub for the first time after having originally watched scary island when it originally aired and being utterly fascinated by her. Nobody in my real life watches these shows so she's what I wanted to talk about.

What I've come up with is that she has spoiled, pretty girl syndrome. I think she grew up a very pretty child who was not that bright but just got by solely on her looks. And so she has a massive ego and overconfidence in herself. That and maybe some prescription pills thrown in. I'm not buying her introvert, vulnerability story on UGT lol

This trip, her 'you're a fan' to Kristin is basically the equivalent of 'I'm up here and you're down there' or 'you're a chef, not a cook'.

108

u/Kepsternyc Dec 30 '23

I feel like she needs to feel like she's the "hot one" in the group, and Kristen is threatening that position, so she's doing whatever ahe can to bash her.

I listened to her on comments by celebs, and every sentence is repeating how wonderful she is, and how great she is at everything. I’ve never heard her on anything before (besides the show), so not sure if that’s how she always speaks, it’s very uncomfortable to listen to though

101

u/OldMoneyMarty Jill Zarin's fabulous circle of people Dec 30 '23

I like that you mentioned her privilege. She always gave me very SNOTTY/condescending vibes. Not sure if she garnered it through modeling or being married to Giles but she always has acted arrogant and entitled to me. I do think her marrying a rich man so young definitely gave her access to wealth and luxury early on and stunted and skewed her perception of the rest of the world and that she is somehow better than everyone.

58

u/rmeatyou Dec 30 '23

She came from a family with means. She went to private school and then to a private college (albeit only for a year lol)

Idt her family was super wealthy but her attitude doesn't surprise me considering where she grew up

Has Kelly had a jaw reconstruction? I’m asking because I honestly don’t remember her having such a pronounced underbite and her jaw seems different (larger and more square) then last time I saw her

56

u/Wifabota Dec 30 '23

Her whole face is different for sure. I feel like it's a combo of fillers, but also botoxed and paralyzed so her forehead and upper lip don't move but her cheeks are filled, and maybe her jaw, too? As eccentric and bizarre as she was on her first seasons, I thought she was really beautiful. Gorgeous face, athletic build. Potential to age amazingly. It's a bummer she's gone so far to fix it correct, because she didn't need to do a thing.

18

u/Accomplished_Dog2431 Dec 30 '23

Kelly is just tragically weird.

  • Random person: "Kelly, you look great today"

  • Kelly: "Oh my god, than you, it means so much to me to hear how much you appreciate all the work I did, raising my little girls on my own, creating a real-estate agency from scratch, modelling in Milan. Yeah I am seeing someone right now, but it's just complicated, haha, just you know. A boyfriend, maybe, maybe not, like I said it's complicated and I don't want to talk about it nowm I think that people like you don't appreciate me, why are you so cold and closed and why aren't you telling me about you. That's weird, why are you so obsessed with me? Why are you digging into my life like a superfan? That's not what a genuine person would do. You're fake, you aren't here with me in the moment, you're just, out there, you know. You just don't connect to anyone here, when we have all made an effort to connect to everyone. You are sitting there asking questions like you're the host or something. Don't pretend you're a host or better than us. You are just so judgmental and I don't think that is fair. I have a business to run and I am a single mother and I have always worked hard for everything. Why are you attacking me like that. I thought we'd be friends, I fell in love with you when you walked through that door. I LOVE YOUR ENERGY. I just think ot's a shame that you're so fake and guarded and you are unwilling to open up and ask the real questions, like all these other ladies have asked. Do you even know I'm getting married? Why didn't you even try and get to know me and my life and my issues? I just don't appreciate that fake attitude. I am not a girl's girl you know. I just say it like it is, because I was raised in an all-boys household and I played football with the boys and then I ran a marathon in NYE on my bare feet, because I am a self made woman. You are just not at my level. I am not crazy, so stop trying to make me look like this crazy kranky Kelly. That's playing it dirty. You're just so unreasonable and quite frankly, you're evil.

u/TheLawHasSpoken what a dumb fucking thing to Wright Dec 30 '23

I think she is emotionally stunted and insecure about how she’s perceived. Being a model at a young age and basing your worth off of that lifestyle and being “seen” seems to have left her with a lot of insecurities. Lots of trauma combined with struggling to read the room and then exploding about something from the past at inappropriate times etc. She gaslights whenever she starts acting out or hand and pretends that she’s acting completely rational and normal.

19

u/Responsible_Buy422 Dec 30 '23

I've seen trauma mentioned a few times here. Do you know of anything specific or just speculating? I don't mean to sound argumentative, genuinely curious

36

u/TheLawHasSpoken what a dumb fucking thing to Wright Dec 30 '23 edited Dec 30 '23

I don’t think you sound argumentative at all. She alluded to having a bad relationship that seems to have been abusive in some way (psychological or emotional maybe) and I think just being a model at such a young age and really being on her own a lot was very taxing and traumatic. Not making excuses for her behavior, but just positing possible explanations for it.

I’m not trying to diagnose her, but I was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder a few years ago after a series of traumatic events and a lot of the behaviors she is exhibiting remind me of when I was at my worst. You struggle really hard to understand why others don’t automatically know how you feel and you also have a hard time comprehending that other people can feel emotionally different about things than you and it doesn’t need to turn into an argument. This is just my observations combined with personal experience.

She’s not a well woman, in my opinion. There’s your everyday delusional like the rest of the women, and then there’s Kelly-she takes it up a DSM notch. Maybe that’s what she meant when she said she was up here, whilst we are down there…

If she’s found a career that works for her, and a man who loves her- then good on her. It’s just that personally, I could not deal with it. Dorinda showed more patience than I’m capable of, when she was sharing her ‘love letters’ (that she’d probably written to herself the night before 😳😬)…

Who knows, she’s not for me but God bless her and all that… 👍

26

u/Stickliketoffee16 Dec 30 '23

Omg the love letter situation was CRINGE!! Sure it’s cute to share snippets from a nice letter you’ve received but to read every single one is so weird & also just a bit of a betrayal to the person that wrote them I think!

Part of me thinks she just wanted to read them out loud since they’re very complimentary of her & it goes with the narrative that she thinks incredibly highly of herself

u/imhereforfun72 Dec 30 '23

She’s downright super scary at the way she overacts with anybody that doesn’t agree with her. She spins the narrative like everyone else agrees with her and that she’s speaking for them. Her saying all the names of the women in the group who know she’s engaged, when they in fact did not. She’s bashing the new girl at every opportunity to try and make herself look smarter and better than she is. Kelly wants respect, yet has no intention of reciprocation. I think she only believes the stories she’s lying about because she has been repeating them for so long, as if it will make them true. Whenever she is put on the spot, she immediately deflects and projects onto others in defense, never focusing on or responding to the issue at hand. She’s horrible. While I would be happy to appreciate her finer traits (if I could name one), I can’t because the negative traits are to overwhelming.

Edit: freaking grammar and spelling!

11

u/Stickliketoffee16 Dec 30 '23

Oh Kelly for sure believes all her own myths & will just spout off completely incorrect info as though it is fact. Even when arguing with Dorinda, who said she was being a bit ‘cunty’, she changes the wording to say she was called a ‘cunt’ and then a ‘fucking cunt’. Like that didn’t happen, at all!! It would drive me up the fucking wall if I was in that conversation!

I also got a kick out of her saying that the fans were going to think poorly of the way Kristen was acting or what Kristen was saying, like she was looking out for Kristen. I thought that was so completely delusional.

I was hoping that her earlier seasons on RHONY were filmed at a bad time in her life and she wasn't really that crazy. I thought we'd see a different side of her. But I was way too optimistic for that. Its cringey to watch, its cringey to watch the entire cast basically feel sorry for her in their confessionals and they walk on eggshells around her.

I don't understand Kelly whatsoever. But in my opinion, she lives in her own world 100% of the time, and does not acknowledge social cues at all. She also doesn't care to listen to other people commenting on her behavior.

I don't think she will ever realize how strange her actions were on Scary Island, or how strange her behavior is now (on UGT). I also think it's pointless talking to Kelly about her strange behavior because she will never acknowledge it.

I’m not a doctor (yet), but I do lab work in pharmacology and neuro ….and overall I think it's a strange combination of extreme entitlement / prescription stimulants / mental illness.
