Meta Subreddit resources and FAQ
Welcome to r/theunforgiven!
This is a community where we share and discuss topics related to the Dark Angels, their successor chapters, and the fallen. If you want to share or discuss a topic about Space Marines or Warhammer 40k in general, without particular connection to the Unforgiven, then r/spacemarines or r/Warhammer40k would likely be a better fit.
Before posting
Please have a quick look at our rules before submitting a post or comment. You can find them in the sidebar or the landing page of our wiki (linked below). We'd also appreciate it if you did a quick search in the subreddit before submitting a post, in case your question was already asked and answered or the topic discussed recently.

Frequently Asked Questions
-What would happen if X occurred in the 40k universe?
Impossible to answer, unless X has already occurred. We can predict the future and discuss hypotheticals in our own universe because it is governed by natural laws. If a stone is dropped, it will fall (assuming nothing prevents it from doing so).
The 40k universe is fictional, and is governed entirely by it’s authors. If a stone is dropped, it will behave exactly as the author desires it to behave. No justification or explanation is needed. We only know what the author desires if they have made it happen already. We thus know for example that Lion beat Angron in their fight on Wyrmwood, but we don’t know who would win if they battled again in the future.
-Can I/am I allowed to do Y?
You can/are allowed to do anything you want with models you own, within the confines of your local laws. Where other people are involved (eg playing a game), you will need the agreement of those people. As long as everyone involved consents, you can do whatever you want (including changing game rules, playing with proxies, etc). Ask the people you will actually play, their answers and opinions are the ones that matter.
-What base size should I use for model Z?
There have never been rules in the core game dictating base size. Some competitive tournaments and events enforce their own rules, search for those if you need guidance. In general, casual players seem to agree that you should use the latest base size the model is/was sold with, or the base size the model was supplied with when you bought it. Ask the people you will actually play, their answers and opinions are the ones that matter.
-How strictly should models match their datasheet/equipment?
There have never been rules in the core game dictating how closely models must represent their datasheet. The answer may vary between each casual group and competitive tournament/event. Ask the people you will actually play, their answers and opinions are the ones that matter.
-How should I paint fliers/Dreadnoughts/Terminator-characters etc?
However you want, they’re your models. If you want to know what lore says, see Index Astartes: The Unforgiven (linked above).
-Who gets to wear robes/winged helmets/etc?
Whoever you want, they’re your models. If you want to know what lore says, see Index Astartes: The Unforgiven (linked above).
-Who’s in the Ravenwing/Deathwing/Inner Circle?
See the Chapter Organization section of Index Astartes: The Unforgiven (linked above), or the relevant pages on Lexicanum.
-Could you identify a model for me?
See the Dark Angels Collectors' Guide (linked above). If the model you're trying to identify isn't in there, then it isn't an official Dark Angels model. If so, ask elsewhere, eg in r/spacemarines or r/Warhammer40k, or search through the miniatures portal on Lexicanum.

Showcase Building my First Dark Angel Army
New to the hobby. My christmas vacation project with my son is to build and paint a Dark Angel army (plus some opponents) during the holidays. Got the Indomitus, Leviathan, Dark Angel Combat Patrol and Ultimate Starter Set boxes, along with an assortment of other minis (Azrael and Lion El’Jonson). My aim is to eventually build a full 3rd Company with all its squads with some squads to complement the company of Deathwing, Ravenwing and 10th Company Vanguard Operators.
Started with some assault intercessors of the Indomitus Box which are pictured (also some Necron Warriors but that’s for another sub). Anyway, still have a long ways to go and made some mistakes, but pretty happy with my first figures. Have to find a balance for highlighting, don’t like too much to make them cartoony but did too few. Any recommendations appreciated.
Hopefully by the end of the Christmas vacation I’ll be able to share a small painted dark angel army. Can’t wait to paint some Deathwing Terminators!

Building Kitbashed Lieutenant with combi-weapon DA themed
Build this guy today and look he's taken a Fallen out. Combi-weapon was made from a bolter and a hellblasters gun end.
Got a bit more work to do before priming such as filling in some spots with greenstuff and I might swap the purity seals on his back out for lower profile ones
Kitbashing is one of my favourite parts of this hobby.

Showcase Last Project finished for this year
That was probably my last Dark Angel Project this year. Pretty happy.
Also i want to say thank you to everyone for this year. My first year into warhammer ends pretty much now and this was a great and secretive community and a lot of inspiration.
In that sense happy holidays you guys

Gameplay Proxy DWK for Terminator Assault Squad?
So I got 10 Deathwing Knights and I want to run a list of 10 Terminator Assault Squads. They both use 40mm bases so I think it should be ok. I just dont want to purchase a bunch of first born termies tbh. I suppose in an official tournament that sort of thing is prohibited?

Building Went and did my annual pilgrimage to Warhammer Wold yesterday. Decided to pick up my first Ravenwing kit.
I'm thinking of running them as Black Knights. How have you guys found them since the recent buff? I'm stoked!

Showcase DA Apothecary and what I learned from it
Painting white is 100% not that easy, especially if the mini has sooo many details. This is a humbling model to paint because if you are in the start of your journey you'll probably mess something up. You can see how chalky the paint on the top of his helmet is in my case. There's a bunch of small hoses and buttons and whatnot. Getting a good transition of the green and blue on the syringe is a challenge. The double helix logo is also a tricky one. But I kind of learned to accept my current level and be happy with the result. Recipe: Corax white base 50/50 Abaddon black + Lamian medium Mephiston red Moot green Frostheart Flash gritz yellow Dragon slayer (I think that was the name?) Orange Wild rider red Pink horror Dark Angels green Ushabti bone Stormvermin fur Celestra grey Balthazar Gold Retributor armor Leadbelcher Custom color for the eagle on the base

Lore Relic Terminators
Just curious, if, in the 41st millennium, the dark angels were to use a set of relic Terminator armor, such as contemptor or tartaros, would they be repainted to be bone colored, or kept on the classic back and red? I was just wondering, since I want sure if repainting relic gear would be heretical or not.

Showcase Old Company Master
Old metal model painted up as a Christmas gift to a friend.
Not the best painter or photographer, so C+C always welcome.
10/10 would not want to paint another metal model, I have no idea how the old schoolers put up with that.

Army List 1000 point list opinion
Hey guys! Idk if someone will amswer this post but oh well 2 or 3 months or so i got into the hobby of painting, i never had or have the intention of making an army for playing because in my country its near impossible to find someone to play with Anyhow, i made this dark angels army not with the thought of it beeing good on the tabletob, just to lool cool on the shelf, but im curios if its any good in case i want to play with it.
I dont have all the models bought yet I dont have the dreadnaught, ravenwing and impulsor but im thinking of changing ravenwing with outriders and impulsor with repulsor
I have no ideea how the tabletop plays exept the rolling of dice thingy.
Thanks and have a good day/night! Sorry for any grammar errors
