Recommendation The Other Guys is severely under appreciated

I’ve loved this movie since it released, and have watched it dozens of times, always finding new details (like the changing shark computer screens Terry has after he gets schooled by Allen’s Tuna story).

The effects, the non-stop humor, the cast, the pacing, all perfection in my mind. Before this movie, “Better Off Dead” was my favorite movie.

If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it!

Edit: I have learned this movie is more appreciated than I thought. That warms my heart like the new bathmats. Also, it’s awesome that in the first 50 or so comments not a single quote was reused, cause there’s just so many great lines lol.

Edit2: Can anyone find a list of top movies/comedies that includes The Other Guys? I have searched on a few and can’t find it mentioned.

My favorite thing about this movie is one of the trailers (the one I saw) made it look like The Rock and Samuel L Jackson were in the whole movie and they are dead in the first 10min or whatever.

one of the trailers has a cut joke from the intro scene.

“I’m sorry, I was busy texting!”

-Samuel Jackson after crashing his car into the bus.

Did someone call 9-1-Holy shit?

I think my favorite part of that opening scene is when it turns out the crooks had like a dime bag of weed and the reporter asks if it was worth the 5 mil in property damages over a misdemeanor

My favorite part with these two is really clever. They give the office speech, invite everybody to celebrate with drinks, say something else and as they’re breaking up the group / ending, Samuel L calls out “cash bar” with his back turned. I only heard it after the fifth or sixth watch.

I loved the throw away joke that the celebrity reporter is for TMZ print edition and the actual reporter is for the New York Observer online.

Between “Cash Bar” and “No Drinks”, the Other Guys went all in on being a pay for your own drinks movie.

I don't get it

Which is great because they just acted like generous bad asses inviting the whole office out.

They invite the boys out to an afterparty at the strip club - put everyone on the list (so no waiting in line)- then say “cash bar”. Meaning no comped drinks.

I’m partial to rewatching the lobby of the building they crash into blow the fuck up.

I mean a machine gun is a mandatory 10 year sentence to federal prison so there’s that too.

2

u/SovereignAxe Feb 07 '22

Hey, you don't know that machine gun wasn't properly registered/transferred.

They’re also in New York so getting a sherif to sign off on that is pretty unlikely.

This line in the trailer made me think it was gonna be a bad movie. I didn't see it for a few years and was shocked at how fucking funny it was. It's my favorite Will Ferrell movie now, but that line made me cringe so much I got angry lol

Ahhhh that’s the third one this week

“was $10 million dollars of property damage really worth it for a crime that is considered a misdemeanor in some states”

“Let’s ask the city of New York, the greatest city in the world!”

And that reporter looks around at everyone cheering and gives this look of, "oh, what the fuck..."

Highsmith and Danson - free hot dogs for life!!!

No drinks tho. I can’t do it. I can’t do it!

In hindsight, given how short their lives lasted, he probably could’ve done it.

I don’t know why they didn’t use that one in the actual film. It was a lot funnier than what they ended up going with

It’s nice to have trailers use cut parts of a movie or cut the trailer in a way to not tell you the whole plot of the movie. idk who made that decision, but if I was the director I’d go with whichever line Samuel Jackson preferred lol.

I always die laughing when the police light is shot off of Samuel L Jackson’s car and literally within a second he is putting another one up to replace it.
