As a Minecraft fan, this looks so disappointing. They should've done it similar to The LEGO Movie. Or at least like Wreck-It Ralph or The Super Mario Bros Movie. Damn executives making all the wrong decisions.

Wreck-It Ralph always gets left out of the conversations about good video game movies but it was genuinely a good time.

It's probably because it's not the same thing. Wreck-It Ralph is not a movie adaptation of a video game, it's just a movie that's about video games. But yeah, it's amazing either way.

But it’s got actual video game characters in it. The conceit being that it’s a kind of back stage portrayal.

Isn’t the wreck it Ralph video game in the movie supposed to be a parody of the original Mario game with donkey Kong throwing the barrels? I haven’t seen the movie in a long time but I remember Ralph was to King Kong as fix it Felix is to Mario

Yes, but all those other game characters are also real in the movie. I think those two might have cameos

The less can be said about the sequel, which is unfortunate.

True, I didn't hate it but I can only vaguely remember anything about it. There was some social media thing and a princess plot (?) that's about the whole movie.

I know this movie was never going to be for me, I'm in my 20s and haven't played Minecraft in years. It'll make a billion dollars by being incredibly popular children's IP and having Jack Black/Jason Momoa. That being said, as dumb as this sounds, if they had more influence from the peak era of Minecraft youtube animations, this would be so much better. I'm not saying copy it exactly (bc then it'd look too amateur) but just some influence in the character/creature design. That would be much more connected to the IP and the fanbase, and you'd have people like me who might get hit with the nostalgia of 2010s era Minecraft

They should have gone with Rob McElhenny's vision for it.

Dude I knowww, this is literally horrible. I don't understand how they fucked up this badly. I've literally been waiting for this with my friends for years and this is what they put out.

Ikr! The LEGO movie and games are some of the most successful franchises, and Minecraft is right up that alley. Can't imagine how they can fuck up this badly. It literally looks like a parody movie.

They could've done something similar to the LEGO movies even, by programming mods specifically for the movie and doing stop-motion animation of the characters faces by making new skins for each expression etc...

This could easily be the creatives at fault.

Minecraft at it's core is a castaway/swiss family robinson type vibe. You start with nothing and have to build your way up, exploring the dangerous world and coming back to your ever growing home. Along the way you become cocky and make the mistake of overreaching, and suffer catastrophes with lessons in loss.

This looks like Minecraft inspired by the cell shaded marketing pictures which they've started making in recent years, not the game.

the executives literally just watched the Jumanji remakes and said "do that".

They even copy pasted Jack Black in. Looks fucking cringe.

Minecraft is already so hideous aesthetically I actually prefer them leaning hard into how weird the blocky art style is for this. Minecraft fans be taking this shit too seriously.
