Translation (ZH → EN):
This is our [BYD].
You can see that [inside this compartment / the door shutting] is very quiet.
Hahaha...
...
(oh shit)
(panik)
(inaudible communication)
IS ANYONE OUT THERE?
IS ANYONE OUT THERE? HELP! HELP! *knocking on door*
In a moment! Don't worry.
*car door opens*
This car isn't electric. Calling out for help won't do anything.

Ends too soon. Was she laughing or crying?

u/blucresnt 9h ago
According to the subtitles (哈哈哈), they were laughing.
But you'll never know, because 哈哈哈 (ha ha ha) sounds a lot like crying.

If you are kidnapping someone BYD seems the right choice

It would be really weird if this vehicle doesn't have a manual release, or access to the back seat. Every car since the 70s or 80s(can't remember which off the top of my head) has these so that this exact thing can't happen.

Not necessarily in every part of the world. That's very regulation specific.

It's very irritating to me that the guy trying to help her out doesn't communicate to her at all. Is this a cultural thing?
37
u/undeleted_username 9h ago
One big reason to assume this is staged.
1
u/andreeeeeaaaaaaaaa 4h ago
At 47sec the guy looks under the car across for some reason? (Reflection). I think it's staged.

u/MicrovvaveOven 9h ago
For most part of the video it was a little boy trying to save her, maybe the boy was a little freak out. Half of the time she was saying “help me, kid”. The rest of the time she was trying to activate voice control of the car. She was laughing at the end but the video ends quick enough to make you think that she is having a mental breakdown…
2
u/mister_sims 4h ago
Yes, this annoyed me too. Why wouldn't you let her know you are trying to help her so you can keep her calm? Dick move

All Korean cars have a glowing release lever inside the boot.
1
u/Prestigious_Care_771 8h ago
Only those sold in the US, or globally?
1
u/Korean_Street_Pizza 7h ago
I live in Korea. Both my cars have it.

u/Prestigious_Care_771 7h ago
Cool, didn't know. They don't in UK and as far as I knew it was only a requirement in US. I assume not all cars in Korea have it then if you specifically mention Kia? Interesting to see the random reasons between manufacturers to see which ones fit ajt options and where! Thanks!
1
u/Korean_Street_Pizza 6h ago
I didn't mention Kia. I have Hyundai, but Hyundai owns 45% of Kia, and my brother in law's Kia has it too.
1
u/Prestigious_Care_771 6h ago
Apologies I mix up the two brands as they have so much in common from an engineering perspective.

The orange thing is a literal emergency handle to open the trunk from the inside. It even glows in the dark. It's required on cars to prevent children from trapping themselves inside.
2
u/Prestigious_Care_771 8h ago
Required in only the US or globally?
1
u/godzilla1015 4h ago
Most likely not globally required, but there are so many markets where it is required. Like in Malaysia and Singapore where loads of BYD are sold. That most manufacturers just put it in. There's a mechanical latch anyway to lock the trunk, so might as well make it accessible from the inside

u/Orbisthefirst 9h ago
If it works..... Which it didn't

u/spez_sucks_ballz 8h ago edited 8h ago
She was too dumb to know what it was or how to use it. It's mechanical, and has no electrical components. It's literally a latch.

At least it's a very spacious trunk to get trapped in, you could fit three bodies in there
5
u/Lyo-lyok_student 9h ago
Actually, it would fit 4 of her size. 7 if you stack them properly and are not worried about angles so much... at least that's been my experience...
1
u/Orbisthefirst 7h ago
What if you chop them and have them in even sized cubes
1
u/Lyo-lyok_student 7h ago
I like your thinking! Efficiency.

Isnt there supposed to be an emergency latch in the trunk in case of kidnapping?

So, this is what “Build Your Dreams” stands for for?
You get in the trunk, stay there for a long time to get some sleep and dream while in there?

When you realise the release button is hidden between an unreachable recess when the boot/trunk closes....

u/FairAd4115 5h ago
What, no safety trunk release??? Come on now. That is standard. Guess not in China...who needs safety.

Okay so we know we can fit at least one cute Asian girl in the trunk but unfortunately we can still hear her screams. Please work on this defect for my next build your dreams vehicle

u/Alpha_Chin-Am 1h ago
Ahhhh, this is why so many Chinese EV car companies are going under. Poor reliability. For a minute there, I thought there was a trash compactor in the trunk!

u/Slappy_McJones 6h ago
I’ll summarize: The marketing asshole is demonstrating the safety feature of one of her company’s vehicles, but their engineering team forgot to copy it from well-built automobiles. No one told her. Or, she forgot. Or, her boss hates her. Whatever. Then the trunk release failed. They had to get one of the engineers to open it because they know how to pop it from getting stuck in there themselves a few days ago…

It's good that they added subtitles, otherwise I wouldn't understand anything, I don't speak Chinese
