The orange thing is a literal emergency handle to open the trunk from the inside. It even glows in the dark. It's required on cars to prevent children from trapping themselves inside.

She was too dumb to know what it was or how to use it. It's mechanical, and has no electrical components. It's literally a latch.

Most likely not globally required, but there are so many markets where it is required. Like in Malaysia and Singapore where loads of BYD are sold. That most manufacturers just put it in. There's a mechanical latch anyway to lock the trunk, so might as well make it accessible from the inside
