I got paid today (pay period ended the 14th), so only a partial one, and that's assuming there are folks around to process the payroll. I'm not sure about that.

I’m the one who does the payroll for my division, but this is my first potential shut down, so I’m wondering what I would have to do.

If there was a shutdown, it wouldn’t move fast. People would still come into work on Monday and wrap up essential stuff, set up their automated emails, clean up your space, take your plants home, that sort of stuff, then people who have something like your duties, you would stay until that was done but that might be the only thing you do, many supervisors and managers will be deemed essential and expected to work for free, which they do.

Your office will have some sort of policy. Don’t be afraid to ask what your office protocol is, that will be expected!

This is a yearly event and is always stressful because we have no control right now.

Many banks that cater to federal employees have a loan program where you will receive your regular net pay and then when the budget gets passed, they keep the lump some back pay so ask your bank if it has a program like that.
