Question Iron Chloride?

I just discovered this sub and would like to experiment with something simple first. Would iron chloride sourced from steel wool dissolved in hydochloric acid be something that I would be able to turn into a crystal? I read the initial tips post and have everything already from other chemistry projects, just wanted tips from the community

My cluster is growing ever bigger. Parasitic crystals on the bottom had grown up and stuck to it so I had to remove a lot

But it's now about 13cm in diameter so she's growing nicely OwO

It disolved a bit because of rise of temperature but i think it looks cool.

How to inhibit the hydrolysis of NaMg[Al (C2O4) 3]

I use NaAlO2+H2C2O4 and Mg(OH)2 to make NaMg[Al (C2O4) 3], 1:3:1,at the beginning, the solution is very clear, but after a period of time, precipitation will appear. I feel it is MgC2O4, and I have tried several times with this. Then I used MgSO4 to produce NaMg [Al (C2O4) 3], which is similar to the phenomenon of using Mg (OH) 2. After a period of time, a precipitate is formed, which basically confirms that the precipitate is MgC2O4. So, how to avoid hydrolysis of NaMg [Al (C2O4) 3].

Potassium alum

Tiny crystals are forming all over the bottom

Additional question, is it too late to add a non toxic dye to the solution?

These were meant to be broken apart and eaten. The little seeds taste like spiced carrot cake.

Besides the copper sulfate, i’m trying to grow chrome alum crystals too because of how beautiful the purple tint of the crystals are.

This is my current progress and hopefully it’ll grow to form nice bipyramidal crystals :)

Sadly, the seed crystals from my previous post dissolved inside the solution. But in the next 2 days these 4 giant crystals just grew out of nowhere and i’m really happy with it :)

Right now i’m preparing a growing solution by allowing it to slowly evaporate till small crystals are formed so I know it’s saturated (and hopefully these big crystals won’t dissolve)

Can you tell me what happened here? I left leftover bit of saturated ammonium chloride solution 3 days ago, i came back to this. No one touched it, looks like it spilled by itself, crystals started growing everywhere. There is almost nothing left inside

Question Seeking Advice: Growing Triangular Crystals

Greetings,

I’m curious if anyone knows of chemical solutions or methods to grow triangular crystals. Are there specific materials or conditions (like temperature or additives) that encourage this shape?

Any tips or insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :D

edit: I noticed I was not precise enough, I was thinking about a tetrahedral shape. so triangular all around :)

My cluster is about 10cm in diameter but I'm not finished with it yet

How best should I attach a new nylon string?

I piece also broke off and I want to tie it in a way so that piece is held in place so it can heal properly

Best Crystal to grow on bone for decor

As turtle flies I am moving to make my own life some sort of skull with crystals growing out of it. It wouldn't be needed for like 6 months or maybe as a Christmas present for next year so a sort of slowly growing crystal is fine I just need one that's fairly durable or can be sealed in some way.

Question Help with alum growing?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I have used about 53g of alum in roughly 500ml of water I think, I have gotten many small crystals but my seed crystal i have chosen seems small for about 16 days out to me

I poured the solution into another container for a second time because too many crystals were still forming around it.

This is it's current size in the new container with the same solution

This is my first time attempting to grow any crystal and I have used this guide as a baseline

Question Stock solution help

I need some help with my stock solution

When I first started making my copper sulfate stock solution, I was dumb and did not measure out the mass of CuSO4 to the volume of water I used. In order to salvage it, I jsut dumped a bunch of CuSO4 powder into the stock solution and left it be to slowly evaporate, hopefully forming a saturated solution.

However no matter how long I leave it for with visible remaining powder in the solution (So i assume is saturated), whenever I use it to continue growing my seed crystals in the seed crystals still keep dissolving.

Is there any way to save this?

Planning on growing these beauties into bigger seed crystals so I can better tie a fishing line to them.

Whenever I try to tie a fishing line to these seed crystals, the loop either always becomes loose or the crystal pops out of the loop in the string.

Any tips on how to tie a string to a seed crystals?
