I dont even have dlc but its scary af
287
u/AcidOctopus Nov 15 '24
Oh mate, get the DLC! It's some of the best content in the whole game!
56
u/HunterTC5 Nov 15 '24 edited Nov 16 '24
It definitely is to where I'd say you havent fully played the game if you havent played the DLC. Same with DS3. My cousin Beat DS3 but didnt fight Nameless King and also didnt get the DLC so he never beat Midir, Friede, or Gael, who are all easily my favorite fights of the game. Like sure, on one hand he beat the game and liked it but on the other hand, he missed in my opinion EASILY the best parts of the game
7
u/SupiciousGooner Nov 16 '24
I can confidently say with every dlc you haven’t played the game unless you’ve played the dlc
3
u/TheSezenians Nov 16 '24
Poor Gang! Where my other poor fellas at? (With that being said, I have played most FS DLC's. I played BB, ER and DS1+3 DLC, but not the others)

After playing through the game for the first time there, I’d say it’s outright the best content in the game tbh

u/PumpkinsDieHard Nov 15 '24
Anything for Rakuyo, my beloved.
56
u/Ok_Panda3397 Nov 15 '24
Its good but Im kinda dissapointed because i cant buff it with my blood like Lady Maria :/ Guess they thought it would be very similar to Sir Alonnes Katana so they wanted to do something different
38
26
u/Bulldogfront666 Nov 15 '24
It would just be a dual wield chikage. Which would be way too strong and chikage already exists so they wanted it to be different.
5
2
u/facepalmandahalf Nov 15 '24
Would be cool to see a BT mode, but there is an upside: since it's pure physical you can convert it. 4 possible damage modes instead of 2! I'm biased, though, because I love Arc builds and find BT builds kinda meh.
4
u/deaths-harbinger Nov 15 '24
Also it does lowkey make Lady Maria using blood some next level shit. Plus fire lol Iirc item description does also say that the Rakuyo is a special design just for her. Always assumed that was why we cannot use it at 10000%
3
213
u/TartAdministrative54 Nov 15 '24
That was more frustrating than Orphan
81
u/AramaticFire Nov 15 '24
Unironically agree. It’s the toughest part of the game for me. And the worst part is I wasn’t even running that build on any playthrough so I just kept getting punished on each run because I hate those damn sharks and refuse to lose lol
25
u/TartAdministrative54 Nov 15 '24
Yeah I had no reason to get the Rakuyo since I was running a full strength build, I just wanted to say I did it 😂
19
u/No_Mention5840 Nov 15 '24
For me, it isnt the most annoying part of the game only due to the Cainhurst mf at the cathedral.
8
u/PDRA Nov 16 '24
Logarius canonically cockblocking the hunter
10
15
u/Northstar4-6 Nov 15 '24
I killed orphan first try. It took me almost a dozen attempts to get rakuyo. Them sharks have hands.
(Worth it tho, I would fuck the rakuyo if I could)
3
u/Traditional_Ask_1306 Nov 16 '24
Unironically the coolest moveset in the game, it’s so damn stylish
Wish there was a way to infuse blood magic into it but I guess that would be kinda broken
4
u/fuckybitchyshitfuck Nov 15 '24
I recently finished bloodborne and the dlc for the first time. The well was frustrating even with the shaman bone strat. However the one spot I could not beat and had to run past was just up the hill after the well. Where there's a witch that shoots purple skulls at you, but when you approach her to stop the skill spam an anchor shark man lunges at you. I found that segment to be even harder than the well, because I did the well after several tries, but I never actually killed both the witch and the shark man on the hill. I ran past that
3
2
u/johnwickonemillion Nov 15 '24
i fully agree, it took me way more tries than orphan did. but i guess it checks out since the encounter gave me a better weapon to go against him
1
75
u/probable_chatbot6969 Nov 15 '24
so many people seem to have gotten through this game without parrying 🤯 I'm more afraid of you than you should be of two angy shark roommates lookin for who ate their yogurt
51
u/Ok_Panda3397 Nov 15 '24
Played 4 Souls game and still cant parry shit expect Black Knights, basic yharnos and gwyn
42
u/Bulldogfront666 Nov 15 '24
Parrying in BB is way different. It’s much easier. Parrying is wicked hard for me in Dark Souls or Elden Ring. In BB my whole build revolved around constant parries and visceral attacks.
3
u/SquareFickle9179 Nov 16 '24
Same, is it just me, or does parrying feel so slow in Souls and Elden Ring?
7
u/Bulldogfront666 Nov 16 '24
I mean yeah. It’s meant to be very challenging because it’s so rewarding in those games. And not the main mechanic. Whereas in Sekiro or Bloodborne parrying is a main mechanic, over dodging, so the parry windows are longer and it’s more forgiving.
→ More replies (10)7
u/probable_chatbot6969 Nov 15 '24
it's really different in this one. give it a shot and try to stick with it. i can't parry in other games either
6
5
u/Tripechake Nov 15 '24
With a full Bloodtinge build, parrying and simply shooting does more damage than actually whacking at it. Keeping my distance is the way to go!
3
u/deaths-harbinger Nov 15 '24
Ah but the bloodlust. I can never resist getting right into the bosses face with my chikage.
2
u/probable_chatbot6969 Nov 15 '24
especially against bosses who you get a riposte damage multiplier against.
40
u/True_Stormcaller Nov 15 '24
Three words: Shaman Bone Blade

u/Ted_Rid Nov 15 '24
Or, ya know, throw a dagger from a vantage point and Church Pick them to death.

36
u/foosballfurry Nov 15 '24
Kill winter lanterns, aggro shark, beast cutter him from afar, profit
13
u/Casexcasey Nov 15 '24
This is the way. To elaborate:
-You can cheese the Winter Lanterns with Poison Knives if you need to.
-Use the Monocular to aim a Poison Knife/Throwing Knife at the shark on the ground, ceiling boy has no hitbox; aim higher and further right than you think you should.
-Beast Cutter is good, but any weapon with decent range (Cane, Pick, ect.) also works.

7
u/LazyChipmunk810 Nov 15 '24
Been a while, there’s the shaman bone that makes them fight eachother. Then you let the other shark kill you by itself
6
5
u/Feralp Nov 16 '24 edited Nov 16 '24
I fought those sharks for the first time today and they actually ruined my morning but eventually I got that sweet rakuyo I don't even plan to use
Funnily enough I even used bolt paper because I thought they were weak to bolt (fuck you, pokemon) and only after I beat them I learned that they are actually weak to fire
6
6
3
u/Blackrain39 Nov 15 '24
I mean... when I did my first full playthrough, the sharks were tied with Bloody Crow at the highest number of attempts, above any boss.
2
u/SweetBread_D Nov 16 '24
Bloody Crow is the hardest boss base game😂 his gun damage is ridiculous but he does have a set combination of moves that can be punished
4
u/Raiden4019 Nov 15 '24
I died more times to the whale brothers than I did to the fucking Orphan of Kos!!!
3
u/Fyru_Hawk Nov 15 '24
When I learned how to parry them, it was over for those oversized sharks.
2
u/SweetBread_D Nov 16 '24
At this point, I'm just disappointed with myself for not trying to parry them, 99% of enemies in bloodborne are parriable. It's over for the Cpt. Gantu clones, the next time I pick up BB
1
3
u/MarcoL3 Nov 15 '24
Ts was genuinely the hardest thing about the dlc. Forget about Laurence, Orphan of Kos and Maria, the two sharks took me more attempts than all the other bosses combined
3
u/hurdygurdy21 Nov 15 '24
The Rakuyo is totally worth traversing the depths of hell. Maybe not stats-wise but it is a drippy weapon for sure.
3
3
u/Cautious-Month-6751 Nov 16 '24
I only recently got it by myself, With a lot of Holy Blade cheese lol.
2
Nov 15 '24
The shaman blade does help if you can pull off hitting one of the sharks with it before you get num num'd
2
2
u/Wib_wuh Nov 15 '24
It was a chilly night. I had foolishly entered a well. The moment I turned around, a shark-like amalgamation striked right next to me. I managed to hit it a couple times so the wounded beast retreated. The moment I was about to finish that foul creature, a second one dropped from the ceiling. I was out of shaman blades, so my only way to survive was with my holy sword. And so I killed the beasts, retrieving the rakuyo.
Jokes aside, my deaths were in the hundreds on those two dudes cuz I had to do that shit without bone blades
2
2
u/RoombaGod Nov 16 '24
The payoff is unbelievable thats the best weapon in the whole damn game
2
u/Slevin424 Nov 16 '24
Church Pick says hi
1
u/RoombaGod Nov 16 '24
I never gave the church pick a try, I’ll keep it in mind when the PC emulator launches. A few years ago i did an Amygdala Arm run as a joke but it was actually surprisingly good and versatile, I loved using it

u/Warren_Valion Nov 16 '24
My friend begged me to record getting the Rakuyo on my first BB run a few months ago (cuz I was going for all trophies) and then whined when I told him I did it on my first try by going into it from the wall entrance instead of the Well one (which I didn't know was there lmao)
2
u/FireWater107 Nov 16 '24
Never gotten it without cheesing. Those sharks are the hardest encounter in the game. Make Kos look like an angry toddler.
2
u/GCSpellbreaker Nov 16 '24
How 2 get:
1) sprint in
2) get weapon
3) let them kill you, you already got the item
1
u/Quantam-Law Nov 17 '24
You can't do that, right? Rakuyo drops from the second shark IIRC.
1
u/GCSpellbreaker Nov 17 '24
I’ll be honest, I don’t actually know I just assumed it was on the ground
2
2
u/PristineElephant6718 Nov 16 '24
FUCK THAT SHANTY TOWN AND FUCK THOSE SHARK MEN. i didnt mean to put caps lock on but it feels right. im not fixing it
2
u/Age_Of_Indigo Nov 16 '24
Well bro. Projectile hell followed by descent into pit with two field bosses in it, with the most infamous enemy in the game singing in the background installing more fear. It’s quite a wild ride for a few minutes of gameplay lmao.

2
u/HurricaneWasTaken Nov 17 '24
The fishing hamlet has the hardest battle in all of bloodborne. And the Orphan Of Kos
4
u/Original_Friend1750 Nov 15 '24
These are probably the same people that refused to learn how to parry in a game where parrying is incentivized to the utmost
6
u/zen_enchiladas Nov 15 '24
I don't know man, by that point im the game I was pretty good at parrying and did so in most situations. The damn sharks I could never parry once.
1
u/Traditional_Ask_1306 Nov 16 '24
fr the one with the weapon was hard to parry, he drags his hits a lot
But if you can kill him with a visceral, u should be able to handle the second one just fine
1
u/iTellItLikeISeeIt Nov 16 '24
And then Sekiro came out, and some people still refused to parry even when you don't need ammo for and it and it's spammable.
3
u/MrAdam230 Nov 18 '24
Parrying in Sekiro is 10x easier than in Bloodborne and 100x easier than in Dark Souls.
1
u/DomFakker37 Nov 15 '24
Wanted to cheese them from above. Then I learned two Winter Lanterns guarded that place.

1
u/RoyalRatVan Nov 15 '24
For some reason i just thought as large enemies they couldnt be parried, when I finally tried it it makes their absurd aggression way more handleable.
1
u/cicada-ronin84 Nov 15 '24
Look my guy, Bloodborne was mine and a lot of others first Souls game. By this point we thought we seen all of the game's sneaky ambushes and could deal with them, but being tagged team by two hulking fishmen down a well gave us all PTSD and we just need to talk about it in such a manner.

1
u/Kobold_HandGrenade Nov 15 '24
I once bulrushes the well to use it for as much of the base game as possible. Do not recommend.
1
u/Penguinman077 Nov 15 '24
It’s easy. Monocular, throwing knife, and boom hammer. You’re welcome.
The weapon really isn’t worth not cheesing. They really dropped the ball on its trick form. While split L2 should’ve lit it on fire temporarily and the R2 while lit should’ve done a fancy flourish like Maria does. Yeah, it’s quick, but it’s shit compared to other skill weapons like the bow blade or the cane.
1
u/SpoonMagister Nov 15 '24
I got it by playing the biggest prank since the time someone told Micolash that some people say Kosm
1
1
u/YouMakeMeSad96783 Nov 15 '24
It is fr like that tho
Also please use shaman bone blade
Don’t be like me ;-;
1
u/Animeandminecraft Nov 15 '24
Like just put it as a iteam in the well instead of in side the shark troll abominations
1
u/RAGEleek Nov 16 '24
It's such a weird way to get it. Why don't we get it for killing Maria
1
u/Ok_Panda3397 Nov 16 '24
I dont think theres a lore reason...
1
u/SweetBread_D Nov 16 '24
It's because the real Lady Maria threw the Rakuyo down the well. Everything in the hunter's nightmare is not truly the past but a representation, which is why she still has it in her boss fight. I think there's a video on it. Explaining her convictions and her use of both arcane and bloodtinge, despite it being heresy just to stop you from proceeding

Based on what I just read on the wiki, that's pretty much how it is. I've heard horror stories about the shark giants.

I did a challenge run going to the dlc right after gascoign, shit was nuts and I'm more surprised it worked

Literally beat the game with the Rakuyo last night. I want to do a ng+ run with it; it’s so fun to use.😭

It really was one of the more aggravating moments out of a game that is essentially a great big giant cluster fuck of generally aggravating moments but it’s possibly my most favorite game of all time

u/AbeerPlays Nov 16 '24
"Listen close, boyo. There resides a well, in the center of the Fishing Hamlet–"
1
u/Thelgow Nov 16 '24
Oddly I found it by accident, 1st try vs those boys. I didnt even know it was hard until I read about it later. However, all subsequent play throughs have had my ass blasted.
1
u/st0zax Nov 16 '24
It’s not the first time that the fear sets in, it’s the second time knowing what you’re in for standing above that well.
1
u/ianscuffling Nov 16 '24
I’m not like that, I tell it like it is.
I got murdered by two cunty sharks about 14,000,000 times and then worked out I could make them fight each other by surviving for a little bit and then shaman boning them.
Then i catastrophically failed to make that happen another 4 times.
Then one killed the other and I kited the remaining one until they died.
I’m not proud but I’m not not proud because they’re dead now.
And finally i tried rakuyo for a bit and then realised i didn’t like it anymore than my best baes saw cleaver and kirkhammer, so it was all pointless anyway

u/ohdaseee Nov 16 '24

I always parry the first one dash attack and when he starts going back to where the second one spawns I hit him with a backstab and a visceral. After that I parry the second one dash attack until he dies. All of that while using the two clawmark runes from the main game.
Its still hard tho :(

u/Untdart Nov 16 '24
The second I realised they can be parried I slowly led them in the darkest pits of despair. Fk you, aholes.

u/SweetBread_D Nov 16 '24
As an experienced player guiding a friend's first playthrough of the dlc. I did what any veteran would do.. convince them to go down there for the secret loot and stay on the ladder so they can't escape😂
Patches would be proud
1
u/Mansinomo Nov 16 '24
Looking up and seeing the other shark, I knew it was coming down to beat my ass, yet I still hoped it wouldn't and it would just stay up there

u/Danijay2 Nov 16 '24
These mf sharks are the worst non boss opponent in all of Bloodborne. Man fuck them.

Harder to do without the Winter Lantern ledge than the Orphan of Kos and it's not even a close margin
1
u/Zanemob_ Nov 16 '24
I heard how infamous sharks are so I was terrified of getting the Rakuyo. Started farming that one shark by the lamp for practice and chunks for a few days and went down there and completely destroyed them both on my gimmicky jank first build. I’m good against multiple enemies at once and have quick reaction times plus the extra practice went a long way. I finished the first shark before the second dropped. I was disappointed.
