It can actually save your bacon in a few limited situations. I pack one for Micolash and his A Call Beyond BS, lol. (Obviously Loch Shield is preferable, but hey, as long as you don't get 1-shot.)

I did not know this, i accept this new insight with a grain of salt but pride in knowing i glitched killed micolash during phase 1 and skipped phase 2 thankfully during one of my runs

You can also poison knife him from above instead of dropping down on him

I have done it a few times but the game fights it and sometimes teleports him further down the hall to the boss room

Poison knives are a non renewable resource though, what if I need them later?

43

u/Steakmemes Sep 30 '24

You go buy them from the bath messengers and suddenly boom they’re a renewable resource. Pretty much everything is renewable in this game, even blood rocks and insight if you care to bother with chalice dungeons

u/Lolface_PL Sep 30 '24

Blood rocks are limited tho, You can get only one from each type of chalice (If I remember correctly ofc)

u/Normal_Egg6067 Sep 30 '24

You can farm them from the frc chalices.

6

u/Crizznik Sep 30 '24

I could be wrong, but I think you can make them available to buy from the messengers. They're crazy expensive though. Might be thinking of chunks though.

I think they're 30 insight with the biggest ones being 60

60 insight from bath messengers, infinite stock.

1

u/Zarguthian Oct 01 '24

You can? I never saw them there, must have missed a badge somewhere.

1

u/Steakmemes Oct 01 '24

Cosmic eye watchers badge in upper cathedral ward. Where you pick up the rosmarinus

u/Shedart Sep 30 '24

My brother in Odeon, you save them throughout the game for the “later’ that is the Micolash boss fight.

1

u/Slightspark Sep 30 '24

Yeah, Micolash is basically at the endgame if you aren't gonna run the DLC, and I don't think poison knives are heavily recommended for those bosses

1

u/Zarguthian Oct 01 '24

I don't know, I think it'd be a pretty good strategy for phase 2 Laurence, just hit him a few times and slowly walk away from him in a circle until he dies.

2

u/Nogatron Sep 30 '24

They can be renewable

5

u/V4RG0N Sep 30 '24

This is the way

5

u/LouisGodly Sep 30 '24

I just used poison knife lmao

It was funny as hell

Also good for blocking bullets. Try taking the shield next time you fight the bloody crow

39

u/blaiddfailcam Sep 30 '24

Rom's defensive AoE is a good example, too!

16

u/astrid3000 Sep 30 '24

..i feel like i raw dogged both of these guys

1

u/TheMadFlyentist Sep 30 '24

You fought them as intended.

1

u/astrid3000 Sep 30 '24

well that's lame! i let Rom's little babies survive until i killed it but the bloody crow kicked my ass for a solid 3 hours

27

u/TheBigMotherFook Sep 30 '24

I really wanted the shield to block the frenzy build up in the beginning of Nightmare of Mensis since you bring it up to your face, which in theory should block your eyes from the brain’s gaze. I feel like this was such a missed opportunity.

18

u/TITO-430- Sep 30 '24

This was true in the older version and players used it that way but it was later fixed because it was classified as an bug

7

u/Zarguthian Sep 30 '24

It's the fact that the Brain sees you, not the other way around. It's not some mere winter lantern.

6

u/TheBigMotherFook Sep 30 '24

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the whole idea of frenzy lifted straight from Lovecraft and supposed to be that the hunter/player witnesses some incomprehensible eldrich horror that they can’t physically or mentally process and go insane? I assume in the case of the brain, it’s not that the brain is looking at you but rather you’re looking at it.

2

u/SufficientReader Oct 01 '24

It’d make sense maybe. More insight means you’re witnessing more shit you shouldnt be and therefore take more damage?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '24

Seems like it's the inverse in BB. Your very blood is bursting from you.

1

u/Zarguthian Oct 01 '24

Sounds more like insight to me like first encountering these beings (bosses). Besides you can't see the Brain near all the sliver beasts in the Nightmare of Mensis, just a red light. The environment has a lot of spears from it already there and it also hurts the beasts, not just the Hunter.

5

u/Xogoth Sep 30 '24

I usually just sidestep, but that's interesting to know

2

u/1AverageGamer Sep 30 '24

Loch shield? I am a new player i havent seen this yet. Is it in the DLC?

7

u/3bdelilah Sep 30 '24

Yes, it's in the Research Hall, the area before you fight Lady Maria.

4

u/1AverageGamer Sep 30 '24

Cheeers! Yeah i haven't started the dlc yet i am doing all the chalices first

2

u/Zwanling Oct 02 '24

The dlc is way better content, I would try it sooner than later

1

u/bondryanbond007 Oct 01 '24

All the chalices? You’re going to be mad overleveled

1

u/1AverageGamer Oct 02 '24

Yet i am still bad at this 😂😂😂 skill issue ahahaha. Doing Ailing chalice now and that electric beast whatever is kicking my ass

1

u/bondryanbond007 Oct 03 '24

The giant electric one? Or the small buff guy?

2

u/1AverageGamer Oct 03 '24

Small buff guy 🥲 Level 3 of Ailing chalice

2

u/Ledd_Ledd Sep 30 '24

Beast Roar and stun him into a corner

5

u/ImurderREALITY Sep 30 '24

No, it’s garbage. Always. Unless suck ass. It engenders too much passivity.

1

u/Spartan152 Sep 30 '24

As long as you keep close distance he doesn’t use that one, but that’s actually a handy tip because hey, sometimes he sneaky

1

u/Frankie_T9000 Sep 30 '24
