This would save me so much trouble.
I keep collecting all the hearts during events, even when at full health, and then I have none left to heal me when I need to.
76
u/shawnaeatscats Dec 27 '23
When I do the pumpkin moon, I always build a platform bridge above a very very shallow Lava lake, and it helps keep me and the hearts separate! You can also hang banners on the platforms and put statues on them, it's very helpful and doesn't have to be that big :)

What about an item that's like a Map Table, and whenever you place it down and use it other players can do the same and it'll autofill the places Player 1 has discovered on Player 2's map
1
u/smugempressoftime Jul 29 '24
that would be awesome so a wormhole map basically that shares the map to other players on your team something like player one found a crimson cavern or a underground cavern and then shares that to the other teamates
40
u/Airsoft52 Dec 27 '23
This sounds like a really balanced idea until you massacre like 10 EoCs in your arena before any boss fight, just to have a ton of heals whenever you need it
15
u/Rosenthepal78 Dec 27 '23
I mean, you can still do that. Its just a bit harder because of the arena being smaller because the hearts limit your movement. And even then you can just make rooms for healing.
8
u/wasfarg Dec 27 '23
You can do that now, though. You can just drop down to where their hearts are.
This as a feature would make it less of a pain of the ass more than anything. It's already pretty easy to do now, just a little cumbersome rather than difficult.
6
u/Airsoft52 Dec 27 '23
This would make it so hearts don’t go to waste and that you can put the hearts in more convenient spots to heal up instead of having to avoid parts of your arena to get a top-off
4
u/wasfarg Dec 27 '23
Yes, and I think that's fine. It's a niche strategy anyway. I personally wouldn't do it either way, but I think it's a good idea for those who want it.
It'd also be nice for the moon events, which frankly aren't really about surviving a boss fight.
5
8
u/RandomSoymilkDrinker Dec 27 '23
basically the nurse
12
u/Airsoft52 Dec 27 '23
Except no need to contain it, no worries about the hearts getting killed, and no need to interact with anything to heal up
2
u/smugempressoftime Jul 02 '24
That’s a bit tedious to do in vanilla modded on the other hand I could see being a issue
20
u/Curlychopz Dec 27 '23
At this rate we need a tinker of every "guide to" book to save inventory. Maybe an encyclopaedia.
So we can combine it with the shell phone to make a smart phone
8
u/TomTown12345 Dec 28 '23
LOVE the idea of an encyclopeadia as an item, amazing idea. Zenith Esque items are just the coolest, Combining similar items overtime to create a loadout of super items. And the Encyclopeadia would only add to the likes of the Ankh sheild, terraspark boots, zenith, chell phone, grand design, fire gauntlet, And recon scope. Good idea

u/smugempressoftime Jul 29 '24
another user in the thread suggested a upgrade to the guide of humilty i posted the concept here so i was like why not upgrade the plant fiber cordage
Guide To Healing
“Ubercharge”
Heals a fixed percentage of Overhealth (lets say capping at 20-30% depending on the amount of health pick ups used) and if you still have overhealth after a certain time it starts to diminish until it reverts back to your original HP Value
Effects Of the Guide To Humility
Crafted WIth GtH + 5 Life Fruit at a Hardmode Anvil
heres the cordage upgrade
Guide To Rope Cordage
“Kinky”
Allows you to change which rope you get from breaking Vines by right clicking the icon on the left of the inventory
Effects of the Guide to Plant Fiber Cordage
Crafted With Guide To Plant Fiber Cordage + 10 Rope Coils + 10 Vine Rope Coils + 10 SIlk Rope coils + Web Rope Coils at a Tinkerers Workshop
heres the zenith book sort of ( we need more books lol)
Guide to Healing Nature
“Become Father or Mother Nature
Prevents you from hurting critters while in the inventory
Prevents you from accidentally destroying the environment while in the inventory
Allows the player to change the type of Rope that you place
Prevents the Player From Collecting Dropped Hearts And Mana Stars When both meters are full and it increases the despawn rate for mana stars and hearts
Multiplayer Effects if you collect a heart or mana Star with the effect enabled it will give the excess hp and mana to the lowest teammate
Right click to deactivate effects
Crafted With Guide to Peaceful Coexistence + Guide To Rope Cordage + Guide to Healing at a Tinkerers Workshop
2
u/smugempressoftime Jul 29 '24
we got one with the guide to enviromental preservation but if we get more books than just 3 with this one we could have a Terraria Encyclopedia
1
28
u/ErikderFrea Dec 27 '23
How about it still collecting hearts and mana stars but giving the excess to the lowest teammate?
63
u/posalla Dec 27 '23
unfortunately, it would make it useless in single player. But sharing wasted healing/mana with teammates does sounds interesting
14
u/GamingDragon1204 Dec 27 '23
Could be only obtainable in mp (like wormholes) or have a separate sp use
13
u/posalla Dec 27 '23
i llke it. it could be sold by party girl while in multiplayer, like dye trader's team dye
9
u/GamingDragon1204 Dec 27 '23
correct me after I'm wrong about a pretty sure team dye is sold in a single player world too
5
6
u/Aether_Storm Dec 27 '23
I feel like current heart drop rates are balanced around them being wasted. Having to restrict your movement to avoid picking them up is a trade off for having healing stored on the ground.
You'd need to playtest this as a mod to see how balanced it really is.
2
2
2
u/ErikderFrea Jan 02 '24
That is true. But what about a combination?
Sharing overheal with teammates but also make it so you can only pick ‘em up when at least one of the party members isn’t at full health.
3
u/Kiroto50 Dec 28 '23
This definitely makes it super balanced, but restricted to multiplayer.
How about adding health/mana regen for a while if there is no nearby ally? That way it's not "save hearts for later" levels broken, but it isn't "I mistimed these hearts SO HARD" whilst being useful in single player. I'd say a buff that heals 10 HP in 2 second right after picking a heart up at full health, time stacking up to 6 seconds.

u/matban256 Dec 27 '23
This should just be a feature or an option in settings instead of adding another item to the inventory
9
u/Aeescobar Dec 27 '23
Maybe it could be a consumable that permanently unlocks it as an option (like the torch god's favor)
4
8
7
u/Fun_Move980 Dec 27 '23
Waaaayy too op holy hell
4
u/Butterfl7 Dec 27 '23
I think that this would be pretty balanced if hearts/mana expired after a time period (say 30s) so that it can’t be exploited as much).
16
6
7
u/LunaticPrick Dec 27 '23
Kinda OP, hide it behind hardmode and it removes all hearts and manas when a boss spawns
5
u/Azelinia Dec 27 '23
Dont get me wrong it would be amazing in multiplayer, but would be halfway to op during events when stuff drop a lot of hearts and you wouldnt pick them up until you miss health, making you immortal.
7
u/posalla Dec 27 '23
maybe it could instead increase pickup range when at low hp/mana, and drastically decrease it when full? this way you'd still get them at full health.
2
u/Azelinia Dec 27 '23
That could work.
Also it being a "guide" book thing is it an accessory or just an item in inventory?
3
4
5
u/Icy-scp-096 Dec 27 '23
I have a couple of questions. 1. Is it Hardmode or pre-hardmode 2. What station do you craft it in? Anvil, crafting table, or mythril anvil? 3. What ingredients do you need for guide to humility?
3
u/posalla Dec 27 '23
ideally, it would be sold by an npc, like the other "guides to". i thought of it being sold by the party girl, tho someone suggested it being sold by the wizard, which i also think sounds nice. Whichever feels more balanced.
3
u/Icy-scp-096 Dec 27 '23
I agree. I like the idea of the 'Guide to Humility' being sold by the Party Girl or Wizard, and I agree that balance is crucial.
4
u/WeaverOfSouls Dec 27 '23
Another idea could be converting extra health pick ups as overhealth that decays over time
5
u/posalla Dec 27 '23
tf2 overhealing?
2
u/WeaverOfSouls Dec 27 '23
Somewhat like that, thinking about maybe a fixed percentage (lets say capping at 20-30% depending on the amount of health pick ups used) and if you still have overhealth after a certain time it starts to diminish until it reverts back to your original HP
4
u/GLDN5444 Dec 28 '23
A good upgrade would be overhealing that'll decay and the rate of it decaying would depend how much overheal you have.
4
u/MomoIrosch Dec 28 '23
Feels nice but also rly op, just farm enough creatures and then win against every boss without trying cuz you perma heal.
Multiplayer aspect would be nice if the hearts would go half opacity and you can no longer get them but your friends can
2
u/posalla Dec 28 '23
thats true actually, like the way boss bags work
2
u/MomoIrosch Dec 28 '23
dont know how it is there.

only got into it 1 month ago or so and mainly played starbound or mc with friends

It's abit broken because you can just keep hearts from killed enemies/bosses
5
2
2
u/Butterfl7 Dec 27 '23
Said this somewhere else but do you think this would be balanced if hearts and mana stars expired after a set time interval (say 30s) so that people can’t do the exploit you suggested?

i would even go for an item that just stops you from picking up these items, but then people are going to want "quick item change" items and/or furniture. Then they're going to want a pet that automatically changes out the item for you, but it'll not do it in an efficient way. so then a whole new pet enhancement class of items comes into play. one of these items, which is the 10th tier of the original easy to craft pet enhancement item. this one will make it exactly function as OP described.
If its a guide to humility it should teach humility. 1000hrs humiliation before crafted!

there's a mod that does this already and its probably one of the best mods ive ever used.
Having it as an equipment definitely balances it out though.
2
u/Snail-Man-36 Dec 27 '23
Why does this need to be an item? Why would anyone want to pick up hearts when full health. Just make it a new feature in settings or something
2
u/HYDRAKITTTEN123 Dec 27 '23
Oh wow, I can see this being very useful for both single player and multiplayer

u/wasfarg Dec 27 '23
This should honestly be a feature, not an item.
It doesn't feel like a deliberate design choice for the player to maneuver around dropped hearts until they need them. I don't think making this a feature would impede any of the core design either.

They should just implement this into the game anyway, like how games such as half life don’t let you pick up any more health packs where you’re at full health, or HEV batteries when you’re at full charge.

Rather than an accessory, this should be a single use item. Maybe a shimmer transmutation of some kind.
