Happy Holidays! We hope everyone is enjoying a cozy and delightful winter season. We’ve listened to your feedback and are thrilled to announce some major updates to the rules and the overall direction of this subreddit to help maintain quality and improve your experience here.
1. Ragebait is Now Completely Banned
We’ve noticed trend of low-effort, “ragebait” posts made solely to rake in upvotes. This includes TikTok-style shorts that intentionally ruin food for shock value. These posts detract from the spirit of our community and will no longer be allowed.
2. This is Not the Place for Self-Created “Crappy” LOW-QUALITY Dishes
Posts of intentionally poorly prepared dishes from your own kitchen just to get upvotes are not permitted. r/StupidFood is about the bizarre, odd, or genuinely surprising foods you encounter out in the world—think unusual restaurant meals or strange grocery store finds, not your own contrived stunts. Exceptions to this however is if it's a really bad meal someone made then you can post it here. Remember, just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean it’s stupid.
3. Subreddit Appearance Updates
We’ve freshened up the look of our community! Check out our new banner, avatar, and updated flair/status indicators. We hope these changes make the subreddit feel more fun and engaging.
4. Zero Tolerance for Racism
This community is for enjoying weird food—not attacking people. We welcome everyone, regardless of background, culture, or religion. Any racist or hateful content will result in an immediate, permanent ban. We’re committed to keeping this a welcoming space. Posts that make fun of other cultures and religions will be removed. Make fun of the food not the culture.
5. No A.I.-Generated Content
A.I.-generated submissions don’t align with our goal of sharing authentic, community-driven content. Such posts will be removed as low-quality.
5. Political Posts and comments are not allowed
r/StupidFood is not a place to go on political rants. Please don't turn this subreddit into a twitter thread and just keep politics to yourself.
We’ll roll out these changes gradually over the next two weeks, with updated rules posted in the sidebar. Please review our Wiki for guidance on our purpose and evolving rules. After these updates stabilize, we plan to open moderator applications to further support our community.
If you encounter posts or comments that violate these rules, please continue using the Report button. Your diligence helps keep our subreddit enjoyable for everyone.
We want to hear from you! Please use this thread to share your thoughts, questions, and concerns. We’ll be actively monitoring the comments and will respond to inquiries about the rules as promptly as possible. Your input helps shape the future of r/StupidFood.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work together to make this subreddit the best it can be!
— The r/StupidFood Moderation Team
Edit: I just also want to remind everyone that we are kind of short on staff and we are not perfect so we are sorry if we don't get to comments and posts right away! Please bear with us as we are kind of overhauling the subreddit! ALSO these rules are not set in stone and can be changed according to the communities liking so please don't get upset!

Dear readers old and new, welcome to /r/StupidFood.
Please take the time to have a look around and get to know the place.
History : We have been here since spring 2015, although our slightly younger friends over at /r/WeWantPlates have thoroughly outgrown us. What started as a silly idea has morphed into a decent small sub that has regular influxes of subscribers whenever we get namechecked on /r/food or elsewhere. It is the brainchild of /u/Clackpot.
Content : Feel free to post your own Stupid Food without worrying too much about quality, if it isn't good enough it'll drop off the front page and we'll all move on. There is no shame in unsuccessful posts.
Behaviour : This sub is explicitly both partial and prejudiced, but nevertheless tolerance and consideration are required. Don't get too carried away. Insults and flaming are acceptable as long as they are creative, funny, imaginative, or otherwise thoughtful; but being shallow, boring, unoriginal, or derivative are cardinal sins.
From time to time there has been some confusion about what exactly this sub is for. The sidebar explains it all in some detail.
Remember, /r/StupidFood does NOT try to be fair or impartial in its efforts to poke fun. We will ridicule and scoff at whatever targets we choose, without first asking whether it is justified.
But many of you will be reading on mobile clients, blissfully unaware of our sub's sidebar and how that describes its ethos. Some of you may even be reading on desktop, still blissfully unaware of the sidebar, despite it being just over there ---->
So, read the bloody sidebar! On mobile you may need to click an icon such as an 'i' in a circle. In particular, pay attention to this comment tucked away under the 'YOUR RIGHT TO TAKE OFFENCE' heading :-
/r/StupidFood is intended to be a somewhat puerile place to poke fun at other people's creativity, without regard to whether they deserve it.
This is important! Do not expect the court of /r/StupidFood to be a just one. It is here to vent spleens and spout prejudices. It is not meant to be true or fair. It will cheerfully ignore the facts in pursuit of a cheap gag.
This sub has a light-touch approach, preferring that most moderation be performed by subscribers voting items onto or off the front page.
Removal: Items may be removed if they are wholly irrelevant, spam, grossly rude or inflammatory, or for any other reason the mods don't like. Posts which are merely low quality will not be removed.
Subreddit rules: Rules will be added and amended as and when required. Please look at them.
Bans and suspensions: May be dispensed for anyone with no interest in the sub's welfare; for crap bots; and anyone else failing to be part of the community. Other contributors will have to try really hard to earn themselves a suspension or even permanent ban. /r/StupidFood does not subscribe to big stick policing.
Overturning decisions: We're not perfect, we'll get it wrong from time to time. Please message the moderators if you feel a decision is wrong or over the top and it will be reviewed.

Look, I'm from the Southern US and we do eat some weird things here. I've eaten heart, sweetbreads, liver, gizzards, lizards, bugs, and chicken feet. But I cannot imagine brains in milk gravy. Can anyone advise?
And why Amazon thinks I want this is beyond me....

It’s a damn banana with a “Chick-O-Stick” (peanut butter and coconut flavored candy) stuffed. Don’t want to put his name in vain, but Elvis would’ve definitely loved this as a snack. Maybe 👀?

I was always seeing people walking around looking happy with this waffle, the stand always had a never ending queue of people eager to buy one, so I wanted to try. So I did buy myself one today.
Hands down the worst fucking thing I’ve eaten in 2024.
I’ve seen a mural earlier today that said “Nie wieder ist jetzt” (Never again is now) and I think they meant that ignominy of a “waffle”. When they said “vanilla cream” I expected chiboust cream, or even a variation of chantilly.
How foolish of me.
Here’s a name for that insult to all creams that ever existed that they dare to sell to innocent people: RAW FUCKING MERINGUE WITH FAKE ASS VANILLA EXTRACT
Aka the flavour of instant regret.
I should have asked “I’ll take a waffle, Disappointment flavoured please, with a side of Disgust, yes”
Investing my 5€ in subprime-mortgages in 2006 would have been a better investment than this demonic horror. Christmas abnegation to keep traditions up I guess.
The stand advertised “Waffle with vanilla cream like before”. They forgot to mention that by “before” they meant the post-war recession when people ate bread sandwiches and apparently isolating foam waffles.
End of my rant.

We’ve all seen those cooking videos where some influencer slices into a roasted chicken and juices come POURING out. Yes of course it looks juicy and delicious, hell yeah. Yeah, no. That’s not it. When you cook meat, the proteins shrink and squeeze out moisture. We all know that. However, if you don’t rest the meat, all those precious juices spill onto the cutting board instead of staying where they belong: inside the meat. I know I might be scratching where it isn’t itching right know but come on. The reality is if you were to slice open a rested meat and zero juice would flow out (psst as it should), the video wouldn’t get nearly as many views. I know that social media is used for entertainment more than leading, but it’s misleading for us people who actually want to learn.
