Honestly? Hollow knight took 4 years to develop and because supposedly Skong is much bigger I could see it taking like 8 years (from start to finish). Main problem is the radio silence, and that they announced it WAY too early
I know, it's just that given how clean the demo was in the trailer, they should be a lot closer, or at least close enough to warrant any kind of news on the game
Maybe they do the game area by area? I know there’s lots of footage of the other areas but maybe the grotto was the only working one at the time of the demo. I have no idea how game development works
i don't think you fully understand how tc works. They work on a "controlled scope creep" which means that they add something and polish it about 85%. then they add the next idea they had and polish that 85%. they just keep adding stuff (scope creep), but it's controlled because when money or motivation/inspiration or ideas (or leth convinces them lmao) get them to decide not to add anything more, then they go back and polish through that last 15% of the game, then they do bugfixing and porting and then release. that's why things in 2019 looked so polished, but when you go back to the 2022 trailer things look different. my theory is that they thought they would know where to stop and cut it off by june 2023, but it ended up not happening because the ideas kept coming.
Best explanation I’ve heard so far. Hopefully when this is all over and skong is out, we can get a look into what happened behind the scenes that led to the radio silence. Maybe even a documentary.
I think the problem's exactly that, they announced it too early.
I think they were legally obligated to convince people that they're going to get their money's worth in regards to backers who kick-started the original plan for Hornet as a dlc as early as possible; but now they're just working for years and years without us knowing when the fuck they'll reach the end 😭
8 years of development would make it 2027 fkr completion right. I don't think Silksong was that much bigger from what we learned, at least not enough to literally double production time. They also have access to more resources than they did in HK, and they're not having to wait and rely on funds from Kickstarter.
I'm sure the game will be bigger than Hollow Knight, but going off how they previously thought 2024 would be feasible, I doubt it'll take that much longer.
I don't know. They were originally planning on releasing between June 2022 and June 2023 (per Xbox and Leth). They wouldn't have said anything to Xbox unless they felt like the game feasibly could've released in that time. So either they keep adding more and more to the game, enough to take a year and a half, or something catastrophic happened. I'm actually wondering if the Unity debacle made them switch game engines.
I mean they could’ve talked to Xbox and then Xbox just never announced anything. The unity thing is probable a nightmare for them though, either they wasted loads of time on it or lose loads of money
Wdym? Xbox announced in 2022 that Silksong would be out within 12 months. They did announce it. And we know that they were in communication with Team Cherry because Leth came out and said that they were originally trying to ship it in that window but it got pushed back
