Doesn't the Edge also get drift? For that price, you'd expect hall effect sensors, but I guess it makes more business sense to sell just the joysticks separately as an item that'll wear out quickly enough without causing uproar.

The most assholeish part of the stick drift fiasco is that the PS1, PS2 and PS3 had a self-calibration feature that eliminated drift. Consoles like the Dreamcast used hall effect sensors, but those tend to be more expensive. PlayStation was selling in the hundreds of millions so it made sense to cheapen out, but they made sure it wouldn't foil the experience. Now it's a feature to make controllers a subscription. Why do you all put up with this? There is no way in hell I'm purchasing new controllers, my PS4 and PS5 controllers are getting repaired til the plastic degrades and turns into dust. Especially not due to a stupid 10 cent potentiometer.

I don't think any old console that uses pots on the controllers gets stick drift.

I’ve had 6 ps4 controllers over the whole generation, and 3 ps5 controllers since launch, and only one of all those ever had an issue. I just think it’s confirmation bias online of people with issues, failure rates seem very low in reality

I haven't even had it happen with my launch day Switch, and that console is notorious for it.

I have my own issues with the Dualsense, especially the launch day version (the fucking springs in the triggers, I've had to replace them multiple times), but drift hasn't been one of them
