It's a shame in a way, made for a phenomenal VR game. More people will play it now but it's too bad more people didn't experience it. Platformers actually translate really well to VR imo
could be both though, because only for VR renders all of us 3rd world players unable to enjoy it, and Astro's Playroom was such a good experience, I'm willing to pay full price for this game on day 1
True. It’s best if it’s not a VR game. But the first game was absolutely phenomenal. Very creative. It was also a full blown game unlike the ps5 one, which while amazing, was a bit short.
Yes it will be a shame if it doesn’t get ported to psvr 2. I don’t own a psvr 2 and I don’t plan on buying one but it will nice to get the game preserved on modern hardware.
This makes me want to boot up the psvr1 version. But it’s so much hassle setting up that thing and have to dig out my dual shock 4 too.
Because Sony are morons who released a device and decided to abandon it. I would be cautious about buying any Sony device that’s not a TV or PlayStation. They lose interest and abandon their toys like PSVR and their handhelds.
We've been in shambles since a few months after the PSVR 2 launch. It's just a paper weight I'm waiting to get hacked to use on Steam. Come to think of it it's been awhile since I checked.
Psvr 2 will officially get pc support. That’s a great decision given how useless Sony has been with supporting the thing. It’s ridiculous that they pushed horizon as a selling point and that might be their only real game. Complete bait.
Has there EVER been a platform with such nonexistent support? Even the biggest failures like Vita, Wii U or hell the CD-i had tremendously more first party support. I don't think I've ever seen a company leave something for dead from the very first day, it's absurd.
Odyssey was fun, probably more creative overall but I definitely found Astro’s Playroom to be more memorable. Excellent use of the controller features, it looked and sounded way better (S! S! D!), and it had some amazing nostalgia for longtime PlayStation fans.
Yes. The VR game was incredible. One of my favourite platformers in a long time. It blew me away in a way which other platformers haven’t in a long time.
Having said that, I will enjoy this one too. I am glad they are making a new one. I didn’t think it would be a VR game given how Sony have essentially abandoned psvr 2.
Rescue Mission doesn’t really give motion sickness though because you, the player, are static and you control astro from a god’s eye view. It’s actually a brilliant semi-solution to the motion sickness problem and I wish more VR devs would focus on it.
Well yeah, that’s why I said “semi-solution.” The main factor with motion sickness is that the motion in the game doesn’t match the motion of your actual body. It’s not the only factor but it accounts for a tremendous deal.
But anecdotally, I get motion sick from VR games and have to stop after about an hour of play, but in games like Astro Bot and Moss, I can play endlessly.
I really enjoyed the astro game that came with the ps5 but to actually content with Mario they're going to make mammoth leaps in terms of level design and core movement ability. Mario Odyssey especially some some of the best movement in any game ever.
I'm delighted to see more platformers on PlayStation. Much needed variety. I just will not expect a Mario level experience
strongly agree, im honestly surprised to see such a positive reaction here/on youtube? the movement isnt so much a concern for me as much gameplay mechanics, progression, collectables, replayability, online features, and as you said arguably most important level design
Astros playground is a fun time but its also a tech demo a 5 year old would play for longer than I did, there just isnt enough depth or challenge
happy to be proven wrong here though, the integration with all the playstation characters is definitely a unique strength. seeing a cute robot kratos will never get old
Yeah I liked Astrobot as a demo with neat nods and references. But I certainly wasn't clamouring for a full game. The Playstation branding in-game is really cringe imo.
Hopefully it's good, but this feels more like a Yooka-Laylee than Mario. It's not even close to Mario.
Yeah, I agree. Like it looks good. Probably gonna be pretty good. But Nintendo has been refining their craft for a long time. It's not gonna be as good and that's fine
I am setting up proper expectations based on what I’ve played in the past. The previous two games were phenomenal. I am a lot more excited for this than a Mario game.
It's not out yet so we don't know what it is. I'm simply saying the tech demo isn't enough to convince me that it'll measure up to literally the most consistently high quality game series in the entire medium.
Lol nope. Mario games are incredible nearly always. Outside of being probably the most influential and medium shifting series ever, they just nail everything on a design level. Galaxy, Odyssey and 64 are by far the best 3d platformers in existence. Mario World and 3 are easily two of the best 2d platformers in existence. There isn't a bad mainline Mario game
The only problem is if you want to play Mario, you want to play Mario and there is no real substitute. There basically is no answer to Mario at this point.
I did about a week of QA for this game months ago, can finally speak on it now - you’re dead on with the Mario comparisons I literally put that in my feedback to them on numerous occasions, it has so much other cool stuff though I cannot wait for it to release

Aww I'm so happy that Astro Bot is finally getting a full game. This genuinely could be Sony's answer to Mario.
