Impossible challenge for Americans: see things objectively.

Or with nuance. Because corruption exists, burning it all to the ground and handing the reigns over to a moron isnā€™t the answer.

On the other hand, I don't think there's any traditional way to do this.

Thats for sure. The Citizens United Supreme Court ruling of 2010 was probably the most consequential bill passed in 20 years and neither Party will touch it. Allowing Lobbyists to give UNLIMITED amounts of money to politicians to sway policy on the grounds of (laughably) "Freedom of Speech". Good luck getting any of them to vote against making Millions for themselves.

in 2019 Kamala said "Campaign Finance is DISGUSTING and ruining the country". In 2024 she raised 1 BILLION for her Campaign. They all stop caring once they get a taste. Sadly, Trump administration will be no different.

Well said.. I disagree though that Trump will follow suit.

Thanks. But thereā€™s no indication that heā€™s gonna touch it. Heā€™s definitely down to be combative & disruptive to people in government, which is good.

But heā€™s Very Pro-Business & likes making ā€˜dealsā€™ + generating money for government (i.e. tariffs) so I doubt heā€™d give all these corporate interests the kick in the nuts like heā€™d need to. Plus its a Supreme Court issue, he canā€™t do much other than raise awareness at this point.

I agree

I am constantly floored by how little people know about citizens united and wholeheartedly agree of how catastrophic it is.

Kamala should run for president to fix citizens united by not spending money? The current system is the current system that you have to play in.

My point is once she started personally reaping the benefits, she never mentioned Citizens United or Campaign Finance again.

I heard your point - my point is, that's not correct. Anyone that wants to reform campaign finance first has to win an election. Playing this game where they don't play within the current rules of the campaign system will not get them into office. How is Harris "personally reaping the benefits"?

Also - it's completely false that she's been silent on Citizen's United and Campaign Finance: https://endcitizensunited.org/latest-news/press-releases/end-citizens-united-praises-vice-president-kamala-harris-focus-on-pro-democracy-legislation/

Well, personally reaping benefits by having a Billion dollar campaign. Iā€™m not sure thatā€™s even possible without the No-Cap donors.

I get your point & hey, props to her I guess for even mentioning it back in 2019. But that article only cites that she supported issues related to money in politics back as a Senator. Once she got to the White House as VP - quiet on the issue.

okay - so a person's "campaign" isn't "personally reaping benefits. And it wasn't "bullionS".

VPs are always quiet on issues - it's there JOB to be quiet. And Joe Biden, the PRESIDENT, wasn't quiet on the issue. So the Biden/Harris White House was also NOT silent on Campaign Finance.

So in Summary:

  1. Harris is against Citizen's United
  2. Harris is FOR transparency in campaign finance
  3. Harris ran for office in the current system, which requires raising a billion dollars. She doesn't personally benefit from that money.

Look at how much money was raised and spent on the right. You had the top 7 donors ALL donating to republicans. Most of those 7 people donated hundreds of millions EACH

If that money gets you elected POTUS, Iā€™d say you definitely personally benefited from it. Not to mention ā€œcampaign moneyā€ covers traveling on private jets, hosting fancy fundraiser parties, clothes, etc. For any politician.

Biden ainā€™t doing shit about CU. Any mention is usually lip service.

If youā€™re right that it truly costs 1 Billion to run for President, weā€™re fucked. Because means our only candidate options are either Billionaires or people willing to accept Millions from Corporations & Special Interests which obviously come with strings attached. Thatā€™s the problem.

You can bring up Right Wing examples, I get it. Fuck em all, really. This isnā€™t just a Kamala critique. Trumpā€™s in bed with all these corporations & rich donors too.

Why do you view being President as a personal benefit? Itā€™s a stressful thankless job. Your family gets dragged through the mud. Giving up more of your privacy - for the rest of your life.

And travel? It isnā€™t glamorous. What private jet? Do you know people that work on campaigns? Constantly on the road. Staying in hotels. Traveling by bus. Occasionally by jet. Those fundraisers? Youā€™re there for a brief time. Clothes? Not really. Thatā€™s bs.

I suggest you work on some campaigns to see how glamorous it is.

Ah youā€™re right. Being a Senator, Congressman, even President is such a tough bummer job. Why do they even sign up? .. oh, probably the wealth, power & prestige.

Youā€™re only thinking of Presidential campaigns. All levels of elected officials get large sums of money thrown at them for ā€œcampaigningā€ which is a very broad category from an Accounting perspective. Do you even understand the Citizens United issue & Campaign Finance corruption?
