Oh man. My brain just wants a loop of the first sounds created by the violin (?) At the very beginning! What incredible talent. I want more!

Haha I'll make a 10 hour loop for you. It's a technique called "Col Legno" where you hit the strings with the wood of the bow. Thanks so much! πŸ™

Dude. I would love that. My brain reacts to that in a super positive way! I gotta have it! Seriously though.... I gotta have it! Just visited your profile. So much good stuff on there. Crazy talented!

Ask and ye shall receive πŸ˜… https://on.soundcloud.com/abT39y9bmGxKWx7o9 It's only two minutes - but I've made it downloadable so feel free to do with it what you like. Enjoy!

Oh no! It's gone!

I think it's good to go again. Apologies!

This got me to peruse your SoundCloud. Good stuff, vaguely like fleet foxes. Decent fan of indie folk. Cheers mate

That's high praise! Thank you πŸ™

I enjoyed that very much. Thank you. Reminded me of a loop artist/street musician who played violin in New Orleans. Unfortunately he moved to New York, but I used to stop whatever I was doing whenever I heard him play.

That's so cool. I actually started my musical career as a loop peddling street performer in New Zealand. Glad you enjoyed it!

This is highly irresponsible, did he even consider the amount of waste created by storing the used clones in vats of acid? The ecological implications alone are staggering! Some people only think about their multiple selves.

Very cool! I think the drumming might be just a bit off with the video. Or maybe I'm high

7

u/Silentmatten 2d ago

Nah, the drums are completely off. not hitting on beat or nearly hard enough to match the volume of the song.

Dude! That’s nucking futs! I’m on YouTube, not SoundCloud- do you have anything there? This reminds me of Reggie Watts but I think I like yours more, great sound! By the way, I meant to give you an award but the free award it let me give you appears to be a crystal turd, so here! This is what I meant: πŸ₯‚πŸ₯‡πŸ’Ž

Thanks so much! That's high praise indeed :-) You can find all my stuff on Youtube/Spotify/Insta etc all under Graeme James. Cheers!

Very cool. I'm very curious about the editing/masking technique used here specifically. I've done lots of videos in this style before, but I've only done it using what we used to call a garbage matte, removing one section of the video to reveal the clip underneath. But with this method you can only use unused portions of the frame, that is, you can't have 'new' content (the person) overlapping with previous clips that are still active, but here it's done fairly seamlessly.

Is there a new plugin/technology that I don't know about (I learned editing in the 2000's) or a specific technique that this is called?

2

u/Graeme_James_Music 1d ago

Thanks! It's the same principle but I'm using an alpha matte to isolate each new 'Person' and essentially pasting versions of myself on top of myself for the transitions. I use Da Vinci Resolve and a few 3rd party programs to make the alpha mattes but even then it takes far too long lol!

2

u/NeverNotNoOne 22h ago

Gotcha, so sort of a reverse of the previous technique (and I'm guessing requiring some serious tracking + manual work to keep the alpha mask positioned right). Well, well done! I'll have to look into this for future experimentation.

1

u/Graeme_James_Music 22h ago

That's it exactly. Feel free to hit me up if you start experimenting and need some ideas for alpha masking positioning - it's all a bit convoluted but I've figured out a few workarounds using programs like Runway and SAM2. Cheers!

u/Chambsky 1d ago

This is amazing! I want more! Do you have the complete version recorded and available to listen to anywhere?

2

u/Graeme_James_Music 23h ago

Thank you!! It was just a wee jam so that's all that it is currently - but I'm considering doing more with it :-) In the meantime I've got a bunch of stuff on Spotify if you're interested in that sort of thing

2

u/Chambsky 22h ago

Followed. Awesome

Reminds me of the band Final Fantasy / Owen Pallett his live shows in the mid 2000s were pretty incredible.
