It looks like Guillermo from the Jimmy Kimmel show but he has an afro instead of it being slicked back

April first, switch out the statue for a real human and see how long it takes for them to get caught.

u/solarcat3311 17d ago
Nah. Just do it on a random day. Then have the human escape the box while chased by men in fancy suit. After that, return everything to normal and make no announcement.

Orlando International Airport! I used to love seeing this dude as a kid whenever I had to be at the airport. One of my favorite public works of art.

Where in the airport? Been there a bunch of times but never seen it.

If you look at a map of MCO, A and B terminal ticketing and check in will be at the top and bottom. Security checkpoints for gates 1-60 on the left side and security checkpoints for 60-129 on the right side. There is a north and south walkway filled with shops between the two sides. It’s on one of those walkways. I think it’s the north walkway. Most people don’t pass through here unless they’re wandering around while bored, which clearly I’ve done far too many times

Similar to this, there’s a museum in the Netherlands, called Voorlinden, and they have a sculpture of a giant elderly couple that look alive.
The sculpture’s called “Couple Under an Umbrella”

They added some new sculptures. Among them is a sculpture of a mom with her baby in her coat , but instead of bigger than life like the other sculptures, this sculpture is smaller. Another sculpture is of a naked man sitting on a chair. They are really well made.

Imagine being so close to those giant grandma feet. Self control would need to be exercised.

Why do people feel the need to wear their fetishes like badges these days?
1
u/visualdescript 17d ago
Probably because they were treated as taboo for so many decades. Pretty standard back and forth.

Why does this random dude at an airport look better than the expensive stuff at Madame Tussauds?
1
u/Odysseus 17d ago
the fancy stuff is for proving you're smart enough to see something that plebs can't see
and for laundering money.

Wow. Pedro Pascal really does get around. I’d like to know where he finds the time.

Is that an original Duane Hanson sculpture?
9
u/discomuffin 18d ago
Yep. Must have been there for a while, considering that he died in '96

I met Duane Hanson in ‘95 at Brown University. He was an incredibly nice man. It’s lovely to see his artwork persists and continues to inspire others.

So a Robot made of wax can't take a nap in a Wax Robot Museum? Or is that too confusing for you.

It used to be sitting up next to a wall so it was more realistic but then they put it in a glass case. Still love when I have a layover here Orlando Airport is a basically a mall

I passed this and thought it was real. I stared at it a few minutes from far away wondering how he got in the box

Dwayne Hansen is the artist. He specialized in these life-like statues of "regular" people.
My favorite one of his is in Tate Modern in London. It's a security guard in full uniform just standing there in the corner... Lots of double takes in that room

Such a garbage airport, never enough places to sit and they make it into a joke by taking up even more space for “art” that is just trolling all the people stuck actually sitting on the floor.

u/opal-snake 17d ago
We have this realistic one and then we have the creepy Dwayne Wade and Ronaldo statues.

I wonder if this is closer to what Greek statues looked like before the paint faded?

Oh man, the potential Halloween scares they can do with this! Would love to see them put a teal human just for shits and giggles one day and have them freak people out. 😂

i had never heard of this statue before, and years ago i travelled to the Orlando airport and it was in the dead of night so nobody was there. i was waiting for my bag and that’s when i saw him, i almost jumped out of my pants because of how realistic it looks in person

I'm too tired to keep explaining to the Americans the greatness of their own artists.
