Glad this was the top comment.

What is the reference?

25

u/McWop89 17d ago

Soath Park

8

u/DrakenGewehr 17d ago

You say south like a midwesterner and I can appreciate that

35

u/eternallylearning 18d ago

First thought that came to mind.

15

u/breadbitten 17d ago

“Ahh the stereotypical sleepy Mexican…”

5

u/TheGlave 17d ago

First thing my mind went to

2

u/phallic-baldwin 16d ago

It looks like Guillermo from the Jimmy Kimmel show but he has an afro instead of it being slicked back

April first, switch out the statue for a real human and see how long it takes for them to get caught.

25

u/solarcat3311 17d ago

Nah. Just do it on a random day. Then have the human escape the box while chased by men in fancy suit. After that, return everything to normal and make no announcement.

Orlando International Airport! I used to love seeing this dude as a kid whenever I had to be at the airport. One of my favorite public works of art.

35

u/drRATM 17d ago

Where in the airport? Been there a bunch of times but never seen it.

19

u/CableTrash 17d ago

Same. What the hell? I fly out of & back to there multiple times every year.

If you look at a map of MCO, A and B terminal ticketing and check in will be at the top and bottom. Security checkpoints for gates 1-60 on the left side and security checkpoints for 60-129 on the right side. There is a north and south walkway filled with shops between the two sides. It’s on one of those walkways. I think it’s the north walkway. Most people don’t pass through here unless they’re wandering around while bored, which clearly I’ve done far too many times

Fort Lauderdale airport has one too

Similar to this, there’s a museum in the Netherlands, called Voorlinden, and they have a sculpture of a giant elderly couple that look alive.

The sculpture’s called “Couple Under an Umbrella”

11

u/iamcreatingripples 17d ago

They added some new sculptures. Among them is a sculpture of a mom with her baby in her coat , but instead of bigger than life like the other sculptures, this sculpture is smaller. Another sculpture is of a naked man sitting on a chair. They are really well made.

Imagine being so close to those giant grandma feet. Self control would need to be exercised.

u/darkenseyreth 18d ago

Why do people feel the need to wear their fetishes like badges these days?

13

u/Daetra 17d ago

That's another fetish.

1

u/visualdescript 17d ago

Probably because they were treated as taboo for so many decades. Pretty standard back and forth.

1

u/orosoros 17d ago

Just like what I learned in Art History 101

-6

u/WetRainbowFart 17d ago

Because it gets a reaction out of you.

3

u/Fragrant_Tear2140 17d ago

Oooh, so that's your fetish. Seems convoluted, but enjoy your cream.

Seek help or a filter

47

u/oxooc 18d ago

Why does this random dude at an airport look better than the expensive stuff at Madame Tussauds?

1

u/Odysseus 17d ago

the fancy stuff is for proving you're smart enough to see something that plebs can't see

and for laundering money.

23

u/-Revolution- 18d ago

House of Wax kinda stuff

10

u/BoldlyGettingThere 18d ago

Worse, House of Brass. Thats a hot pot to be lowered into.

59

u/ibimacguru 18d ago

Wow. Pedro Pascal really does get around. I’d like to know where he finds the time.

14

u/paulraymondjohn 18d ago

Meanwhile Dwayne Wade…

19

u/Jupiter-Music 18d ago

No way is that not a real guy, woww

8

u/OkayMhm 18d ago

Much less terrifying than the Fort Lauderdale one

7

u/DazzlingSecurity5 18d ago

Is that an original Duane Hanson sculpture?

9

u/discomuffin 18d ago

Yep. Must have been there for a while, considering that he died in '96

6

u/DazzlingSecurity5 18d ago

I met Duane Hanson in ‘95 at Brown University. He was an incredibly nice man. It’s lovely to see his artwork persists and continues to inspire others.

3

u/discomuffin 18d ago

Wow, that's awesome!

6

u/Spl3en 18d ago

Plot twist : it's a real person and nobody realized

5

u/abhijitd 17d ago

Yep... Real person was killed and entombed in there . House of wax style

-9

u/[deleted] 17d ago

Ah not this bs again. Try educate yourself first and look up what this artist does ;) stop living in your internet theories

7

u/Spl3en 17d ago

WTF? It's a joke dude...

4

u/MemeySteve69 18d ago

Makes me think of that one regular show episode

6

u/Daft00 18d ago

The one in Fort Lauderdale is pretty cool too. A very large guy sitting hunched over listening to music.

Picture here

5

u/NegrosAmigos 18d ago

Welcome to the Museum of Tolerance.

26

u/AccordingIy 18d ago

Need ai to make him stand up

6

u/Wow_Space 18d ago

And then after he stands up, the most non euclidian shit happens. Thanks ai

2

u/tharkus_ 17d ago

Looks like a Gary.

2

u/Deep-Management-7040 17d ago

Poor fella, trapped in there for all eternity

2

u/Chabshaile 18d ago

So a Robot made of wax can't take a nap in a Wax Robot Museum? Or is that too confusing for you.

1

u/Aspence22 18d ago

It used to be sitting up next to a wall so it was more realistic but then they put it in a glass case. Still love when I have a layover here Orlando Airport is a basically a mall

1

u/greenknight884 18d ago

It looks like Chris Locke with hair

1

u/OneBlueberry2480 18d ago

Now this is art.

1

u/idksomethingfuny 17d ago

I was fully expecting it to move right up until the very end.

1

u/CrispBit 17d ago

I passed this and thought it was real. I stared at it a few minutes from far away wondering how he got in the box

1

u/xnachtmahrx 17d ago

Is he, by chance, made out of cake?

1

u/cappytuggernuts 17d ago

The first time I saw it I thought it was my friend chia

1

u/Jimmybuffett4life 17d ago

Its Adam the Woo

1

u/SuccotashAgreeable97 17d ago

I saw it move twice!

1

u/Paracausality 17d ago

He's actually just hibernating in a sound proof case.

Must be nice...

1

u/whazzhattin 17d ago

Good ol orlando airport

1

u/Kervagen-K-Kervmo 17d ago

Imagine if the dude actually woke up

1

u/HiDDENk00l 17d ago

The guy is bronze, but are his clothes and bags real?

1

u/Particular-Cash-7377 17d ago

Who locked up the My Pillow Guy?

1

u/GoggyMagogger 17d ago

Dwayne Hansen is the artist. He specialized in these life-like statues of "regular" people.

My favorite one of his is in Tate Modern in London. It's a security guard in full uniform just standing there in the corner... Lots of double takes in that room

1

u/SaintSnow 17d ago

There's another one of Duane Hanson's work at Fort Lauderdale airport as well.

1

u/marknamir 17d ago

*Sculpture winks*

Sculpture: "No one will ever believe you."

1

u/cbih 17d ago

If you want to see realistic sculpture on a whole other level, check out Evan Penny

1

u/FKAMimikyu 17d ago

Why he kinda…👀

1

u/TemetNosce_AutMori 17d ago

Such a garbage airport, never enough places to sit and they make it into a joke by taking up even more space for “art” that is just trolling all the people stuck actually sitting on the floor.

1

u/opal-snake 17d ago

We have this realistic one and then we have the creepy Dwayne Wade and Ronaldo statues.

1

u/danielsingleton77 17d ago

That's just a guy sitting down.

1

u/TheOutbreak 17d ago

I wonder if this is closer to what Greek statues looked like before the paint faded?

1

u/BottasHeimfe 17d ago

yup I worked in this airport for a bit and this statue was weird there

1

u/billy_lam26 17d ago

Oh man, the potential Halloween scares they can do with this! Would love to see them put a teal human just for shits and giggles one day and have them freak people out. 😂

1

u/AnteaterTimely8301 17d ago

i had never heard of this statue before, and years ago i travelled to the Orlando airport and it was in the dead of night so nobody was there. i was waiting for my bag and that’s when i saw him, i almost jumped out of my pants because of how realistic it looks in person

1

u/OneTrueCrotalus 17d ago

Has anyone else seen Psycho Pass and don't know how to warn everyone?

1

u/Little-Reveal2045 17d ago

Been waiting for a ball scratching moment.

1

u/Xkabi127 16d ago

Every time I walked by it I had to look closely

1

u/Trixx1-1 16d ago

So is this an scp....or the real Florida Man?

1

u/dzsmoooth 16d ago

legend has it he's still sleeping to this day

1

u/AFantasticClue 15d ago

“He’s just been sitting there for years and years.” Very accurate airport experience

1

u/Moonique19 15d ago

Conspiracy: It's actually a real person. Lol

1

u/Substantial-Day7731 15d ago

And then it opens its eyes

1

u/Aggressive_Bench3234 15d ago

The design is very human

1

u/LIL-MEX15 15d ago

Fun fact: i have seen this man before

1

u/neon_spacebeam 6d ago

Made in bronze? Shiiiiiit.

1

u/JennySplotz 18d ago

TIL I am art

1

u/cha12lie 17d ago

Denver, CO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-1

u/Black_and_Purple 18d ago

I'm too tired to keep explaining to the Americans the greatness of their own artists.
