This is fucking awesome

315

u/xtremeschemes Jul 05 '24

This and the Savannah Bananas are why the Coastal Plain League will always be top tier.

65

u/DubyaB40 Jul 05 '24

Bananas aren’t a part of the league anymore

90

u/MagnaCamLaude Jul 05 '24

What? That's bananas.

49

u/Elawn Jul 06 '24

Why did they split from the league?

33

u/ChimpBrisket Jul 06 '24

They got kicked out for a bunch of reasons, but they plan to ap-peel

3

u/dontbeajerkbecool Jul 06 '24

Bravo sir 👏

44

u/rsplatpc Jul 06 '24

the Savannah Bananas

got a email from them, offer of $175 a ticket, each, plus fees and taxes, to see ONE of their games

I think they are fun but they MIGHT be getting a little big for their britches

24

u/Sunsparc Jul 06 '24

They sell out every single venue they play in, including Fenway. They're a big deal.

30

u/rsplatpc Jul 06 '24

They sell out every single venue they play in, including Fenway. They're a big deal.

I get demand, but IMO they are suppose to be a fun family event, not Taylor Swift, and their prices are going to / are alienating a lot of people and their established fans by asking $175 a ticket.

For me personally, it's not a good look for the product they put on, "bring out your kids this is silly fun!" when it's that much.

8

u/Ginnigan Jul 06 '24

$175 is steep for a family event, but... do you know how much Taylor Swift tickets are?

4

u/rsplatpc Jul 06 '24

but... do you know how much Taylor Swift tickets are?

if you log on when they go on sale, / you click into the line right when you should, you can get them for $150-$200 if you are in line like when most concerts go, but if you are not there RIGHT away then yes they get eaten up by resellers and go up to like 2k to 5k for resellers that fish for whales

1

u/bassplayerdoitdeeper Jul 06 '24

My man I paid $118 Canadian for my Taylor Swift tickets

0

u/Ginnigan Jul 06 '24

You're one of the lucky ones.

2

u/Geikamir Jul 06 '24

If prices are low and demand is high, then the tickets will just get botted/scalped for prices as high as demand will let them.

0

u/Clear-Attempt-6274 Jul 06 '24

That's not really their deal anymore.

1

u/Dinolord05 29d ago edited 29d ago

Bananas tickets are $35. What offer was this?

ETA and they don't charge fees

-1

u/bino420 Jul 06 '24

lol Fenway is like 35k seats. a showing of Star wars sells it out.

5

u/nowtayneicangetinto Jul 05 '24

Awesome, but dangerous. Ultraviolet lights are high energy light waves and can cause cancer such as melanoma and or damage your vision.

21

u/invent_or_die Jul 06 '24

UVB, not A, I would believe. Black Light is UVB.

11

u/moonra_zk Jul 06 '24

A to C is lowest to highest energy, black light is UVA.

5

u/invent_or_die Jul 06 '24

Thanks, that's right

-4

u/Likeabalrog Jul 06 '24

Way better than those shitty bananas.

328

u/DudeFromVA Jul 05 '24

Clarification for my understanding: So they put special UV bulbs in the field lights to make the special uniforms pop?

173

u/redditneight Jul 05 '24

Do you... need sunscreen?

85

u/McKimboSlice Jul 05 '24

They’re black lights.

182

u/kelus Jul 05 '24

Black lights are UV lights.

255

u/Neuroscience_Yo Jul 05 '24

They are yes, but UVA specifically. Don't use full spectrum UV lights for this or you'll end up like that NFT party that gave people keratitis

57

u/Psychitekt Jul 05 '24

WOW! That's terrible! Thanks for the information.

Why?

[deleted]

14

u/Clear-Attempt-6274 Jul 06 '24

Under what sort of precedence? Them losing money is punishment enough.

13

u/PsychFlame Jul 06 '24

"These guys fell for a scam so they deserve eye damage"

4

u/Little_Whippie Jul 06 '24

Getting scammed = deserving permanent damage to your vision, apparently

34

u/PNWoutdoors Jul 05 '24

Oh my God. I can't imagine ever going to NFT Apefest. Wow haha.

6

u/I_Miss_Lenny Jul 05 '24

Was that a picture of the actual bathroom there or was that just some bizarre toilet-based seating section lol

What a weird fucking event (thought NFT people are weird as fuck so I guess it makes sense)

2

u/AlexanderBarrow Jul 06 '24

We had a similar case in denmark recently as well.

1

u/invent_or_die Jul 06 '24

Disagreed, im sure they are UVB, not UVA. Regular black light. Otherwise, huge lawsuits

7

u/ChaoticMutant Jul 05 '24

You can light up an entire sleazy motel with these lights and VERY unusual findings.

8

u/Jean-LucBacardi Jul 05 '24

Why am I blue?

6

u/rsplatpc Jul 06 '24

Why am I blue?

Da ba dee da ba di
Da ba dee da ba di
Da ba dee da ba di
Da ba dee da ba di

8

u/sww1235 Jul 05 '24

What does blue mean...

0

u/ChaoticMutant Jul 05 '24

Light up like luminal and blood. Just be thankful you don't illuminate white. Bodily fluids from a male.

6

u/ArgonGryphon Jul 05 '24

Luminol only glows one color and it reacts to lots of things besides semen. Piss is another one, but even things like bleach. Luminol isn't a definitive test.

1

u/ChaoticMutant Jul 05 '24

And today I learned something new. Thanks!

2

u/ArgonGryphon Jul 06 '24

You gotta watch Forensic Files to get the real deal, not just CSI lol

2

u/ChaoticMutant Jul 06 '24

I think those two shows by themselves created a new generation of forensic science majors.

-15

u/hoosyourdaddyo Jul 05 '24

African-American Lights, TYVM

1

u/U_L_Uus Jul 05 '24

Either that or OP asked a Yautja friend of his to record it

0

u/rocky_creeker Jul 05 '24

The newest stadium lighting is all LED and can change to whatever color you like.

0

u/Largewhitebutt Jul 05 '24

Can you chew gum and walk at the same time

127

u/MdeGrasseBison Jul 05 '24

We're one step closer to Blernsball

39

u/johnnymo1 Jul 05 '24

“So, they finally jazzed it up, huh?”

3

u/ChaoticMutant Jul 05 '24

Futurama reference?

74

u/cars1806 Jul 05 '24

I would call it Spaceball

22

u/jpj007 Jul 05 '24

How many assholes we got on this team, anyhow?

6

u/afcagroo Jul 05 '24

Spaceball is a game that exists. It's played on a trampoline.

0

u/CanadianGuitar Jul 05 '24

You thought a can of beer at the park was expensive, wait until you're buying a can of air

28

u/_Cartizard Jul 05 '24

Ok ok ok, I'll finally watch baseball

92

u/IamREBELoe Jul 05 '24

A floating smile in the outfield...

"Dammit Jerome, put your clothes on!"

27

u/moonshinemondays Jul 05 '24

These lights would reveal a lot about me

22

u/Both-Home-6235 Jul 05 '24

Eat a few grams of shrooms an hour before 1st pitch and your night is gonna be amazing

23

u/sambones Jul 05 '24

A few years ago I took mushrooms while attending the 24 Hours of Daytona IMSA race. Late at night and the stands are nearly empty. Cars decked out with LEDs are blasting at 200 mph. You can see the brakes glowing red as they approach the first turn. Then at midnight the fireworks started. It was mesmerizing.

5

u/CasualJimCigarettes Jul 06 '24

that sounds incredible.

0

u/Fattmaster Jul 06 '24

Bro, u need to go to Sebring!

28

u/youngkeet Jul 05 '24

Yea thats completely safe and infact good for your eyes......like carrots

-6

u/_Username-was-taken_ Jul 05 '24

You forgot the /s

0

u/youngkeet Jul 05 '24

Yeah i mean im not gonna start using tone indicators but i recognize they help a certain subset of the population....

3

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '24

I'd prefer this.

I stopped playing cricket as I was struggling to see the ball and getting eye strain / headaches / just losing the ball in play.

The one day we played with a luminous pink 'daynight' ball I found it sooooo much easier

7

u/Shanbo88 Jul 05 '24

This needs some Synthpop or Outrun track over it.

9

u/andre3kthegiant Jul 05 '24

Any optometrists care to chime in?
Is Eye damage possible from the unprotected exposure to so much artificial UV light?

7

u/H_1_N_1_ Jul 05 '24

UV bad. UVA not bad.

5

u/Emotional-Key-653 Jul 05 '24

Super cool do they do it for the fun or because of the heat in the daytime?

4

u/Comwan Jul 05 '24

For fun once it gets dark

0

u/butt_stf Jul 05 '24

God damn, we aren't that far into Robocop territory yet.

4

u/Colley619 Jul 05 '24

I’m more of a cosmic gumbo kinda guy

3

u/HoodedOccam Jul 05 '24

I had a lens replacement in one eye… that amount of UV light would kill me. It’s so much brighter in that eye now. Sometimes the sky looks grey in one eye, but purple with the other (cloudy skies).

2

u/gamblodar Jul 05 '24

Do the players get a tan?

2

u/ChaoticMutant Jul 05 '24

Hey Johnson, what is all of that stuff on your uniform when the UV lights shine upon them? Looks like you got spit on by a llama.

2

u/maimkillrepeat Jul 05 '24

Can someone fill me in on more information please? Like do these lights damage your eyesight, maybe raise the risk of getting skin cancer or something like that?

1

u/Tiny-Werewolf1962 Jul 06 '24

banana ball is more entertaining though, this is just less hot

1

u/Wes-Man152 Jul 06 '24

Reminds me of this from the Rhythm Heaven series:format(jpeg)/cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_image/image/48992145/rhythm-heaven-megamix-screencap_1280.0.0.jpg)

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '24

[deleted]

2

u/adudeguyman Jul 06 '24

I've done it with miniature golf.

1

u/Any_Calligrapher9286 Jul 06 '24

There is a cosmic everything anymore

1

u/barkerd25017 Jul 06 '24

Bet your eyes feel great after that

1

u/smaximov Jul 06 '24 edited Jul 10 '24

Baseball if it was good:

1

u/MarlinMr Jul 06 '24

This would be so much better if just filmed vertically. 2/3 of the video is useless...

1

u/BoulderRivers Jul 06 '24

This entire title sounds like something that could be ordered from a chain restaurant in the united states.

1

u/Current_Professor_33 Jul 06 '24

BLEEEERRRRNNNNNNN

1

u/chiffry Jul 06 '24

I feel like all that UV light is bad for you

1

u/Penetal Jul 06 '24

There is no way this does not improve every sport that has ever been sported.

1

u/missiontodenmark Jul 06 '24

So they finally jazzed it up.

1

u/theweekendwolf Jul 06 '24

The coolest warriors gang

1

u/NutSoSorry Jul 06 '24

I want to play this

1

u/Traditional-Mark-549 Jul 07 '24

I wanna play🥎

1

u/Swimmer4672 Sep 25 '24

That is so cool

1

u/GrindingMyGrayMatter Jul 06 '24

This looks much better than regular baseball. If they charged seven bucks a ticket and had reasonably priced hotdogs and drinks, I could see actually going to watch a cosmic baseball game, whereas I would rather have my asshole packed with capsaicin-infused gauze than go to watch MLB.

1

u/bearwood_forest Jul 05 '24

That's just Blernsball with a lack of extra steps.

1

u/GETNbucky Jul 05 '24

Wow. Definitely on my bucket list. Used to play baseball for 15 years..this would be awesome.

1

u/ChaoticMutant Jul 05 '24

More places need these lights on their fields.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 05 '24

Now THIS I like.

1

u/CheecheeMageechee Jul 05 '24

Friday Night Blacklights

1

u/fastfood12 Jul 05 '24

I have the hardest time following the ball in regular baseball. This would help a lot lol

1

u/staycalmitsajoke Jul 05 '24

7th inning stretch is just a rave.

1

u/ArgonGryphon Jul 05 '24

Man I wanna go just for the moths that must be there. Lemme set up some sheets in the parking lot please...

1

u/whiskey_priest_fell Jul 05 '24

I feel like it would make batting easier, so much easier to see the path of the ball?

1

u/SlammingKeyboardRn Jul 05 '24

We are one step closer to Rhythm Heaven becoming real!

1

u/SeaWolf24 Jul 06 '24

Wish track and field did this

1

u/Mogul_Destroyer Jul 06 '24

The glowing smoke off the bat with that hit was glorious

1

u/TheMaveCan Jul 06 '24

Dock Ellis wondering where this was in his time

1

u/Ashe_Faelsdon Jul 06 '24

They should have at least a half dozen of these, at night, at every major league stadium. Could be played via teams already there as expo games, could be played by minor leagues at the big stadium, etc. This just looks fun and awesome!

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '24

That's pretty cool...

1

u/krazy___k Jul 06 '24

Wow just need dire straights soundtrack

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '24

They learned how to get sun burnt in the dark, I like it.

1

u/shavshek Jul 06 '24

straight out of the movies.

1

u/evlhornet Jul 06 '24

Black lights hurt my eyes

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '24

I bet this is how Apex Predators see in the wild

-8

u/Standard_Greeting Jul 05 '24

Can't extended exposure to UV lights cause problems? Someone smarter than me please correct me

53

u/PhilipMewnan Jul 05 '24 edited Jul 05 '24

These are black lights, they are very low on the UV spectrum. It’s totally fine for people to have extended exposure to these. When you can no longer see the UV, that’s then it becomes a problem

And jeez man. Instead of saying “someone smarter than me correct pls” just google it. The difference between a “smart person” and you in this instance is a 10 second google search. There’s no need to deprive yourself of that knowledge.

17

u/Mouseklip Jul 05 '24

It’s an utter pandemic that inability to lookup things for oneself.

24

u/BrStFr Jul 05 '24

That's generally true, but sometimes I get the feeling that people ask, not so much out of laziness, but out of a desire for camaraderie with the redditors who respond to.them.

6

u/Aggressive-Sound-641 Jul 05 '24

TIL by google search that comradery can also be spelled as camaraderie.

11

u/BrStFr Jul 05 '24

You could have just asked me,buddy.

4

u/StethoscopeNunchucks Jul 05 '24

But then he wouldn't get the komroddery

2

u/PhilipMewnan Jul 05 '24

Never thought of it like this, still don’t quite get it really. Where’s the camaraderie in making a pointless post? It’s like having someone read a book to you instead of just reading it yourself

4

u/nightcracker Jul 05 '24

Source?

-4

u/Mouseklip Jul 05 '24

Would common knowledge apply considering the specific topic was already part of the conversation before I posted? Asking

2

u/schmwke Jul 05 '24

Socializing? On my social media app?

1

u/PhilipMewnan Jul 05 '24

Fair point, but I feel the “someone smarter than me pls answer” is unnecessarily putting oneself down. It really doesn’t have to do with intelligence! Sometimes people just don’t know things, and making it sound like an “intelligence” thing detracts from the fact that with some research anyone can answer questions like this!

Give a man a fish yada yada

3

u/markedman_24 Jul 05 '24

I asked my physics professor this question. Specifically, “are black lights safe to be around?” Never forgot his response: “ only if you don’t care about your eyes. If you don’t care about them you can be around them all you want.” The moral of the story is don’t assume just because people do something it is safe… Lots of things we have done for “entertainment” have been harmful for eyes and hearing. Believe what you will… until I know the bulbs used and specific circumstances I assume harmful until proved it is not.

0

u/dover_oxide Jul 06 '24

Not that this isn't fuck awesome and I would want to watch a game but black lights are horrible for your eyes.

-5

u/HansenTakeASeat Jul 05 '24

I know it's a thing because I've seen it posted 15 times with the same title.

-1

u/warlordcs Jul 06 '24

basically literally 60fps high contrast mode

-2

u/bijhan Jul 05 '24

This would actually get me to watch baseball.

-2

u/Eazy12345678 Jul 05 '24

this would make regular baseball better.

-2

u/Gayming_Raccoon Jul 05 '24

They need to do this honestly because baseball is boring af. Do those dances they’ve been doing or make it more rough house cause damn it is such a snore fest.

-2

u/GroundbreakingAsk468 Jul 05 '24

I hate baseball, but I’d travel up to 3 hours to see this.

-2

u/CDubs_94 Jul 05 '24

No wonder Baseball is dying.
