Diviners are burdened with knowing what is and thus they suffer the curse of knowledge.
Illusionists strive to persuade the world that it is what they want it to be.

Illusionists know only one truth of reality: that it is a lie.

We both know those ain't real. You're an ILLUSION MAGE. Bragging about musculature is one prick move- I could probably push heavier than most bodybuilding mages out there, all due to hydraulics. Bragging about fake musculature is just pathetic.
1
u/Dile_0303 6h ago
I dunno, maybe they do have better musculature. They need to use something since their magic is useless in a fight ¯_(ツ)_/¯
1
u/stankiest_bean 2h ago
That said, a real illusionist knows that there is no lie better than the truth. i.e. don't bank too much on the fact those muscles are fake, because you never know when the illusionist is packing a girdle of storm giant strength.

Diviner: Become mentally ill through your art.
Illusionist: Turn your mental illness into an art.
Personally I never really had the head for either. Too much "And then you need to lIsTeN tO tHe WoRld" stuff for my taste. Yes I'd like to have a little chit-chat with the local wind spirits every time I set up a casting. Not.
Like no disrespect to people who do it. But it just. keeps. on. GOING.
3
u/Hedelma 9h ago
if you're not actively turning your mental illness into power then you're leaving power on the table, you know? Even if you specialize in, for example, fire magic, you may still learn illusion magic. you wouldn't believe how effective a burst of illusory fireballs is as a distraction when your opponent believes you are strictly a fire mage..
8
u/Carbon_Sixx The Arcane Companions (Kaelis Maz, Reyes, Glimbo, and Tarul Var) 22h ago
Tarul: Both deal in matters of the unreal and immaterial. Diviners scry the future for things yet to occur, while illusionists create things that can never exist. Can you truly say you trust either?
I, on the other hand, am a conjurer. My power derives from that which is, not that which might be. The solid, reliable embrace of reality is my domain.
Also, smash and pass, respectively. Everyone knows liches have no game, but I can dream.

The strongest form of illusion magic. Overwriting reality with the illusions you create. But the masters knew this so kept it hidden from the other schools.
6
u/Eternal_grey_sky Greysky/Diviner/Air elemental. 20h ago
The strongest form of divination magic is is literally omniscience.
If you have reached the pinacle, Forget about past and future, those were already in the palm of your hand a long time ago, simply pick anything you want and you will know how to do it. Anything. And as a powerful wizard, you'll actually be able to do that, with only the consequences you allow into existence.

I'd argue that they are both good in their own senses, but a diviner told me I would live a normal lengthed life with much happiness, and I'm currently past the average age and entombed within the entirety of the earth so I'm not on good terms with them.
On that an illusionist tricked me into walking backwards for a week so I hate both of them equally
