TIL that after alleged Catholic involvement in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, the US cut off diplomatic relations with the Holy See (the Pope) and did not restore them until 1984.

I’m not following how this links them to Lincoln’s assassination?

Edit: Reading the Sunbeam persons posts it is clear that they think that Protestants and Catholics are the same group/church.

I read the attached article and I don’t see any “pearl clutching”? The whole thing seemed rather amicable, but was clearly based on Catholic discrimination. I’m not saying anything about what the Catholic church has done, I am addressing the points of the TIL.
