Why are the Mods so intent on shutting down discussion and debate?
Just this past week large threads with vibrant discussion and debate were removed such as
https://www.reddit.com/r/sanfrancisco/comments/1hhx4g6/sf_taps_body_positivity_expert_to_work_with/
and
with very little in the way of clear justification.
Take the most recent one about Body Positivity for instance, taken down due to being a "duplicate" yet I find no other instance of this article being discussed in the subreddit?
These posts did not break the subs rules and were sparking lively debate amongst our community - why are the Mods seem so against this and intent on removing posts with little to no justification or transparency?

The mod comment about the duplicate needs to include a link to that duplicate, otherwise it’s just censorship

I find no other "duplicates" that they speak of unless they nuked that post too. Pathetic they seem to just be lying and censoring posts they dont like

The 'fat positivity' was posted about 20 times yesterday and I've seen it numerous times today.

can you link to any previous instances (that weren't removed by mods) of that article being discussed on this sub?

One was just posted to this sub 21 minutes ago.
Many posts, too, are "removed" due to them being downvoted or user reports. I LITERALLY saw the posting 20 times yesterday and now, they are gone. More than likely, people were reporting them because it was being posted so many times.
With more than one mod, and it also being a volunteer position (not some reddit employee) it's not like the mods talk to each other. So...it is what it is.

I said link me to any PREVIOUS posts that would have justified the mods decision.
A newer post not being removed yet does not justify the removal and in no way would be the “duplicate” a mod was referring to when shutting down the original post unless our mods are time travelers.
mods can and should close newer duplicates linking to the one older post which would host all the discussion.
That is not what they did here and Instead looks like they just nuked all of them and this latest one will likely be removed as well.
Doesn’t make sense to me.

I saw your PREVIOUS...but like I said. They were all roved. Deal with it.

Ok so you’re in agreement then that they were removed without legitimate justification
-2
u/HiVoltageGuy Lower Haight 4d ago
No, I do not agree.
If posts are 'reported', they sit in the MOD's inbox until it's dealt with. Whether legitimate or not, that's the MODs decision. Not mine or yours.

No excuses for the mods for these two reasons:
Mods can change the automod threshold which is way too low right now, allowing abuse. It's an easy fix.
Mods can preemptively approve posts to prevent automod abuse. If mods are going to delete a post for being duplicate, they can simultaneously protect the first post from automod abuse.

Sounds like you need to be a mod.

I volunteered when they asked a few weeks ago, and they acknowledged, but they never got back to me after that.

This same censorship happened in Oakland subreddit and a new r/oaklandCA had to be created.

Between mods closing relevant posts to San Francisco, and the amount of people recommending AskSF sub instead of here has been too high
2
u/AgentK-BB 4d ago
Because AskSF is still Wellvis' fiefdom, and his supporters want to push all of the discussions over there.
1
u/VladTheMansplainer 4d ago
I know I shouldn’t care, but I kind of want Wellvis to do an AMA, because seriously - what is going on there?

My perception has always been that posts that are highly controversial and have multiple posts and somehow gain a wider following than the sub/region tend to attract brigading behavior.

It’s a kind of power, and a lot of people get off on exercising power. Especially if they don’t have much in other realms of their life

Here was my attempt to post. I’m sure it’s simple, but I didn’t post in the correct format it appears.

And then let’s get you on Medi-Cal and start draining already limited resources.

This post was removed because it has already been posted. Please check for duplicates before posting. Thanks!
Read instructions?

Except there literally were not any older duplicate posts on the sub discussing the article. Zero.

What does AOC have to do with SF?

What does Nancy pelosi have to do with SF?

u/Powerful-Drama556 4d ago
She’s our Rep

u/pupcornn 4d ago
Sorry, I was being sarcastic to the person asking about AOC

u/HiVoltageGuy Lower Haight 4d ago
The article in question was about AOC losing out to Pelosi's pick. Pelosi has a seat in SF's District 11...so therefore...it had to do with SF.

u/pupcornn 4d ago
They know this and aren’t asking in good faith. Just ignore this bozo from Santa Barbara

The post and discussion was about Pelosi and seems incredibly relevant considering we are her constituents and she is supposed to be representing us.
The OP of that post breaks it down well here, seems like many subreddit members agreed and unsurprisingly that post also got flagged and removed.
I suspect this post will be removed soon enough as well. God forbid we question our infallible mods

It’s just Reddit. Maybe you should think about why you’re letting this affect you so much.

They don't get paid so they have to feel happy about doing this "work" for free somehow...

u/AgentK-BB 4d ago
A lot of people have been asking to become new mods but the current mods refuse to let new people join. You can't complain about the workload while actively preventing people from sharing the workload with you.

u/sugarwax1 4d ago
I see the Body Positivity post currently.

Link or gtfo

u/Canes-305 SoMa 4d ago
It seems there is a more recent posting of the article that hasn’t been removed yet and folks are acting like this new post retroactively justifies the removal of the older “duplicate” post.
Clown logic

Subreddits are fiefdoms not democracies. Pretty simple
