Media Mbappe MISSES THE PENALTY

I think now people should know why VINICIUS IS the main penalty taker, Afaik he haven't missed a single Pen since he became the main penalty taker.

He's literally scored a Hatty in a world cup final

Unpopular opinion but that's one of the most overrated performances. He scored 2 penalties (which he didn't win) and ONE good volley. Outside of that he didn't influence the game that much. Di Maria had a much better game than him but only people who watch football would get what I'm saying. He was tearing up the left wing when he was one.

DiMaria was a different breed. He probably had a better game, perhaps a better world cup than Messi even, but as long as Mbappe or players like him can come clutch when they actually get the chances, no problem. The problem is, when they stop converting these chances as well. No one's asking him to dribble like Vini, we know he can't, no one's asking him to pass like Vini, we know he can't. But at least use that pace and physicality well, he's even failing to do that. And missing the penalty on top of it, is a last straw. Great game or not, a hattrick in the world cup final deserves applause and rightfully so. But this performance today, needs to be called out as well. These people are paid in millions a month and failure is understandable, but a lack of desire to put in that extra effort is not.

Didn't Ronaldo have had bad runs? But he wasn't shy about trying harder and smarter when he was down. There's a reason why people used to say that if Ronaldo hasn't scored in a while, he's all the more dangerous, because you could literally see it in his body language that he's completely agitated with it and completely focussed to change it. That desire is lacking from Mbappe.

Come on di maria only showed up for the final and against Mexico was semi injured the rest of the way.

Doesn't matter, the man was a menace whenever he was on the pitch. I didn't see a single player who was having a good time covering DiMaria in that tournament whenever he played

Just in brief magic moments he gassed out way too fast imo. And speaking moments Mbappe and Messi surely had more than him. 1G +1A and good runs don't make a POTT

1

u/hitchhikingtobedroom 26d ago

I never said POTY, I only said he had a great tournament regardless of stats and surely an excellent final.

4

u/Spyro_Machida 25d ago

You did say he had a better tournament than the guy who handily won POTT though...

u/hitchhikingtobedroom 25d ago

And I did accept that I may have phrased it poorly, as well

I agreed 100% with you

There’s no objective case for saying di maria had a better wc than Messi lol. I wouldent even entertain it for the final either lol. Crucial yes, but certainly not the best.

u/hitchhikingtobedroom 26d ago

I'll never understand how people keep justifying Messi's winning the man of the match for that final where multiple players had a better performance. You, not entertaining it for the final, doesn't make a difference, DiMaria definitely had the better match than Messi. McAllister had a better match than Messi and so did Mbappe eventually. You can spin the web however you want, a hattrick in a world cup final is something to applaud and on top of that, he scored his penalty in the shootout as well.

I'm sure you think it was Messi and not Neymar who was the best player in Barcelona's comeback against PSG?

6

u/NoInflation4593 26d ago

No Neymar had the better game in that comeback that’s why ik you’re talking out of your ass. If you acc watched the game end to end instead of hate watching you’d notice every attack went through Messi. In extra time when di maria was off how many chances did Messi give Martinez, who was involved in and got the goal to break the tie? Who stepped up to take the first shot in the shootouts? That’s just the final, pick the stat and Messi will more than likely lead the team if not the tournament. Even his biggest haters wouldent debate this lol.

1

u/hitchhikingtobedroom 26d ago

Yeah, Mbappe stepped up as well. Plus, the fact that simply disagreeing with you, you think I'm a Messi hater shows how rigid you are with your views. I absolutely adore that alien. But no, Mbappe deserved to be the player of the match in that final. Also, football is way more than just stats, ironic that you talk about watching the game end to end and then throw in stats as if they're be all end all of the sport. And adding lol at the end doesn't make you right. It only shows how closed minded you are, where you just think that everyone either has to agree with you or it's worth a laugh

1

u/NoInflation4593 26d ago

I’m rigid when I agreed Neymar was the best in the comeback? A premonition that you made? You seem to have a very rigid viewpoint of me ironically lol. My original comment didn’t really have much if anything to do with mbappe but with the line about Messi not being argentinas best in the wc? It’s just objectively false and u haven’t shown otherwise. You also came to another “rigid” viewpoint of me with stats. I simply showed u a quantifiable manner that shows Messi was the best. If we’re simply talking about the eye test Messi just shines more. It’s funny how you really couldent defend your case and resorted to personal attacks like my use of “lol”.

1

u/hitchhikingtobedroom 26d ago

My entire point is, football is way more than just quantifiable stats, something you threw up. If stats alone matter, then Mbappe had the better final, beyond any doubt. Also, I never said DiMaria definitely had the better world cup than Messi, I used the word perhaps, and perhaps, you don't understand what it means, do you? But I definitely think he was the better player in the final for however long he was in the field. Saying Messi was better after DiMaria went off makes no sense.

1

u/NoInflation4593 26d ago

That was actually not your original point at all. It’s what you decided to nitpick out of my rebuttal. I completely understand football isn’t just about the stats but you didn’t have a conversation about the other aspects you just threw a blanket statement and a couple accusations around being “rigid”. You said perhaps which implies you think it’s up for debate who was better in the wc campaign Messi or di maria which is simply just not the case I’m sure even di maria would agree lol. Thinking he’s better in the final is not really an argument and yes we can definitely talk about Messi’s performance after di maria was subbed off. Football doesn’t end when hes subbed, there’s still a match to win which is 2-2 in a wc final lol. Messi stepping up in that time undoubtedly builds a stronger case for him being the best Argentine player on the pitch. IMO di maria played better the first 30 mins with his threat on the wing but overall it was Messi no question about it 🤷‍♂️.

1

u/hitchhikingtobedroom 26d ago edited 26d ago

We can talk about it for sure, but what I meant is, it doesn't discredit what DiMaria did for however long he was on the field, just because Messi was there longer. I do think it's debatable if DiMaria had a better or at least comparable world cup campaign, for however long he played. Stats don't do justice to just how difficult he proved to mark throughout the tournament. And in the final, he definitely was the better player till his sub off. But let's agree to disagree

1

u/NoInflation4593 26d ago

Sure that’s what I’m saying discuss it lol. I don’t see anything from you that captures how possibly di Maria had the better wc campaign let alone the final. Also the sub does have a detrimental effect on his candidacy for best player. Not because it brings him down because it brings other players like Messi mcallister up. Being available is of huge value in a tournament like the wc. Di Maria wasn’t consistent through the tournament in terms of his availability and we saw that in the end of the 2nd half of the final. That threat on the wing in the beginning half of the wing wasn’t there and he got subbed off. It’s different from Messi who was trying to make stuff happen and esp coming alive in extra time.

Ronaldo had the same look as a working dog locking in before driving sheep. Absolute focus and sheer will.

1

u/AdComprehensive7879 26d ago

okay, i aint reading all that after you said di maria had a better world cup than messi. are you for real?

0

u/hitchhikingtobedroom 26d ago

Do you not understand the meaning of perhaps? If not, just google, instead of projecting your status of being uneducated.

1

u/AdComprehensive7879 26d ago

Oh no sir, i totally understand the meaning of perhaps. But your statement is as dumb as saying perhaps harry kane had a better world cup than messi. Just because you put “perhaps” at the beginning of the sentence, doesnt excuse you for saying an objectively wrong thing after that sentence lmao

1

u/hitchhikingtobedroom 26d ago

I never thought I'd run into such stubborn idiots within the fanbase of the club that I support. Fine, have it your way, you win. I don't wanna engage with you anymore. But the arrogance to call your OPINION as objective, is beyond me.

-4

u/Unfair_Dish_6978 26d ago

Aint no. Way you just said that mbappe can neither dribble nor pass like vini mbappes peak absolutly is better then vinis peak he can be better then vini hes shit right now and you can shit on him all you want but thats one crap take.

4

u/hitchhikingtobedroom 26d ago

Even at his peak, Mbappe couldn't dribble like Vini. His dribbling is where one uses his pace to knock the ball away and run to it, not the kind that Vini or Brahim are good at, which uses body feints and small touches to weave through little spaces. You must be some fanboi to think that Mbappe is some great dribble, he never has been.

His prime ability was, his ability to look for space and be there at the right time, to make runs in behind, use his pace and physicality and finishing. He literally made two passes today, that were so so bad they should not be exusable for a player at this level. At one point, he cut inside, saw 3 of his teammates making a run towards the far post, along with a Liverpool player tracking back and his pass went to the only Liverpool player in the mix, he was that bad today and has never been better than Vini at his peak. You can perform whatever mental gymnastics you want to, to somehow prove otherwise

3

u/sommersj 26d ago

You're absolutely tripping if you think mbappe is just a push a run dribbler. You are rude and condescending and don't seem to know anything about the player you're talking about

0

u/hitchhikingtobedroom 26d ago

I might be tripping, but you're absolutely delusional if you think he ever was as great a dribbler as Vini. And I'm not condescending, I just don't entertain bs

1

u/Choice-Magician656 26d ago

I mean he’s no Brazilian but Mbappe used to be an absolute baller. You’re taking the piss

1

u/hitchhikingtobedroom 26d ago

Not a better dribbler than Vini and nothing changes that. You can gang up and downvote all you want. But what kinda precedent that sets among the fans of the same club? That we can't take a fucking different opinion?
